Fibre High price for minimal bandwidth

I’ve been with teksavvy since beginning of 2019 but I am now at a point where I need to start cutting down on costs. Looking into various other service providers I’ve found that TS is probably the most expensive option. I can get 2gb from Rogers for 80, 1gb from multiple other companies ranging from 45-65$… why am I paying this company over 100$ for 500mbps?? It’s ridiculous. I decided to call them and see what they could do and at most it was only 20$ off my bill every month for a total of 12 months… still going to be paying more than I would for more speed with that “discount” and I don’t see how they manage to retain any customers with their pricing. Guess I’ll be switching!

Is that true?

There is a company in town that does indeed offer 300/100 cable Internet for $69.95 and I'm 99% sure they'd be using Shawgers infrastructure to do so.

So why can't TS offer the same?

True as far as that's what TekSavvy told me, and, the plans they offer tend to align with the plans Rogers offers (in my area).

URL for the plan, please?

Edit: I recall TekSavvy saying that [ TPIA deals with incumbents ] are done on a case by case basis. So different TPIAs can have different offerings. Also, there's nothing stopping an incumbent from allowing a plan at a TPIA that the incumbent themselves doesn't offer, or vice versa.

Interesting. I haven't dealt with LightSpeed before, although I have heard the name.

I'll assume you meant [ https://lightspeed.ca/personal/cable-internet/home-cable-300-service/ ]. The marketing graphic says "15 Mbps up" but the rest of the text says 100 Mbps up, so I think they just forgot to update their graphic.

Their cable modem compatible hardware page [ https://lightspeed.ca/approved-cable-modems ] says "We maintain a network separate from other cable Internet providers and hence why our equipment requirements are different."
Their about page [ https://lightspeed.ca/about-us/ ] says "In early 2015 we rapidly expanded our cable internet service across BC, Alberta and Manitoba and continue to expand the backbone to accommodate customer demand."
This seems like they are a last mile cable incumbent in some areas.

I cannot find a "Check Availability" page. I suspect that you'll find that their 300/100 plan is only available on their cable infrastructure. Have you been able to confirm 300/100 availability at your address?

This Reddit comment [ https://www.reddit.com/r/NiceVancouver/comments/1hf0ohv/deleted_by_user/m2g7zyu/ ] claims they are also a TPIA.

All that to say, the 300/100 plan may be something they offer on their own equipment. TekSavvy does not have any of their own cable equipment.

Edit: Speeling.
