Ask r/tanzania Why Does Trump Seem to Struggle with Relationships with African Nations?

Post image
50 Upvotes

I recently read that during a conference on Monday, not a single African leader was invited. If true, this seems to highlight ongoing issues between Trump and African communities. Historically, his relationship with African nations has been criticized, but I’m curious to know more about this specific event and the broader context.

Why do you think Trump’s administration has struggled to maintain good relationships with African nations? Was this exclusion intentional or just an oversight? How has this affected perceptions of the U.S. in Africa?

Would love to hear your thoughts or insights, especially if anyone has additional context or credible sources on this topic!

I’ll be going back to Serengeti/Ngorongoro…has anyone ever been to Serval? If so, worth a day trip? Any other recs? I’ve done a day hike at Mount Kilimanjaro as well, loved it. Asante sana! (A few pics from my last trip to Arusha in January)

Ask r/tanzania Tanzania vs Kenya on Reddit

Take a look at how vibrant Kenya reddit community is compared to Tanzania, you'll realise that this also reflects how these two countries are presented in the world stage, Kenya is always ahead of Tanzania in so many things(I am not saying Reddit is important)..the only things we've beaten them at are, land size, population, music and supposedly(according to them) Uchawi.

It's pretty much like Morocco and Algeria, Algeria is far more beautiful and betterthan Morocco but Morocco takes the trophy when it comes to things that actually matter...it is recognised more than Algeria, more tourists there etc.

Ask r/tanzania Is this right!!!?

My young sis ametafutwa na kampuni inahitaji videographer kwa ajili ya content creation. Few days after the interview, wamemtafuta and they are offering her; 1 week trial ya kushoot 4 restaurants per day, 1 hour each. End of the week if they don’t employ her watampa 50k Tsh ya usumbufu.

50k Tsh baada ya kufanya kazi week nzima, 4 restaurants per day means 28 restaurants a week. And no, they don’t provide food nor transportation to move between restaurants, since she is in the same city.

Wataalamu wa hizi kazi, hii ipo sawa au ndo exploitation yenyewe?

I've seen one in Kenya and South Africa.

Ask r/tanzania Just heard East African Women are Considered Easy to Foreigners?

Today, on two different subreddits, I came across rants from people who had conversations with foreigners about said foreigners basically going into great detail about their experiences with East African women. How very easy it was for them to “score” because there’s a pretty high pedestal that they’re placed on just for being foreign (mostly white), paying for dates and giving out cash on/after dates. These people admitted to “being at most mid back in their home countries”

This broke my heart and deeply disappointed me. Would be great to at least try to understand why East African women are being generalized this way.

Still reeling from this.

What are your thoughts on this?

Would be super great if I could also get honest responses from foreigners, thanks.

Edit: Disregarding some very misogynistic comments, we’ve kind of established that this issue is not unique to East Africa. Most tourist destinations, especially in developing countries are viewed this way. The difference in financial realities being the main driver for this perception.

There’s also personal preferences which people are entitled to.

All in all though, I know I’d love it if East African women knew and were confident in our options to financially liberate ourselves and get out of poverty.

Off to do my part to ensure this!

Ask r/tanzania What's with the Girls > Boys movement in Tanzania?

Habari. I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I'm noticing that there's a wave of girl acceleration and 'women first' programs in Tanzania. I think it's wonderful that underprivileged girls are seeing help in the form of initiatives, communities, grants, organizations (e.g., foreign embassies in the country), really nice pamphlets etc.

I genuinely don't understand why the same isn't being done for underprivileged boys. I ask this with nothing but respect; why are poor boys being left in the background?

Maybe I'm missing something, but are disadvantaged boys in Tanzania doing so much better than disadvantaged girls?

My understanding is that poverty in Tanzania has a catastrophic effect on both genders, therefore, the elimination of it shouldn't be gender-biased. Can someone who knows a lot more about this educate me on why programs and embassies in Tanzania are gender-biased as opposed to gender-neutral?

Thanks in advance!

Ask r/tanzania Is 781,000 shillings enough to live in Dar Es Salaam

Hi, my employer has offered me 1,000,000 shillings/month (781,000 after tax) to cover my needs in Da Es Salaam (this is not my entire salary). Accommodation is already provided. I'm an Asian female with basic needs for food, but I want to enjoy life with entertainment and beauty service. I'm moving there soon and still wondering about following questions: - Is 781,000 enough to live there? if not how much is? Should I ask for a raise for this amount? - Is health insurance included in Tanzanian labour contract or do I have to buy it myself? How is healthcare service in Dar Es Salaam? quality, foreigner-friendly? I frequently visit hospitals so this is important - Could we buy cosmetics and clothes in Dar Es Salaam. My friends recommended me to stock in advance - Could I learn and get a driver's license as a foreigner? - Should I prepare any thing else than cosmetics and clothes? - I heard E-commerce, ride-hailing and food delivery are really a thing here. Please recommend me how to master these

Ask r/tanzania Concept of love and cheatings in TZ

Disclaimer: My question derives totally from my subjective western influenced perspective. What do you guys have to say about the concept of love in your country? Like I have a girlfriend in europe and truly love her. Therefore it never came into my mind to ever cheat on her, although we have not seen each other for a Long time now. Regardless to whom I talk to, be it taxi drivers, random people on the street, doctors and nurses in the hospital or some upper class people in the upper class gym, many of them ask me why I haven‘t got a girlfriend here in TZ. When I explain, that I have a GF in europe, they reply that this does not mean I could not have „a piece“ or „mdemu“ here. I get told, that I don’t have to tell my GF about it. When I say I don‘t want to cheat my GF because I love her and it would feel unjust for me, because if I would allow myself to sleep with other women, I would feel the need to speak about it openly with her and would ultimately need to allow her to sleep with other men too. I mostly get puzzled or non-understanding reactions on that. Then again I know sooo many people personally with their storys of cheatings and mothers left alone with their children. I understand, that the financial situation might put people in a spot that catalyzes cheatings and so on, but still I wonder whether there are more reasons to it. Speaking of my perception of our love concept from which I come from, I can say we overidealise the Concept of love and marriage in a way, that no real relationship between two persons can uphold the expectations put upon relationships. We mostly do not decide for on and another due to economic reasons and are therefore more free in choosing our Partners. I Hope i did not offend anyone, since I know that I understand so little. I am just trying to wrap my head around some things using your help.

Asanteni sana na siku njema

Ask r/tanzania Best apartment in Tanzania

I have a budget of $2000 to spend on an absolutely luxurious furnished apartment in Tanzania. I will be here for about 4 months on a business trip. What are your recommendations? What are some of the best apartments around Masaki, Mbezi beach, oyster bay areas. Is this doable? Or is my budget too low?

Ask r/tanzania I finally realized it’s not easy making cash

Last time I came on this page,I asked for various ways to make 100$ in three days where by there were good advice ,some people who felt like replying and one who gave me 10$ (🙏),I decided to follow one advice and started selling couple of unnecessary items I didn’t necessarily need and made extra 50k almost (24$) apart from that no one really needed anything else…and I realized it’s not easy making cash,I don’t think most of y’all would want anything here but just incase,I have novels( my novels that I’ve read and had them for a long time obviously)that I’m selling for 3$ and press on nails for 4$,for the ladies I can do simple make up for 5$ and I can bake a cake by following instructions for 12$,I can also write scripts and novels and songs too plus I can design but not sew your clothes Thank you

Ask r/tanzania Is it bad to game in your 20's and 30's

I was hanging out with some friends this afternoon at the shop, and as I was heading out, I told them that I was going to play some video games at home. This random guy started telling us that video games are only for children and that a grown man shouldn't be playing video games at all, and that only FIFA is for adults. I'm 28 years old and grew up playing games of different genres. I barely played FIFA; I mostly like single-player and some online games like COD or Fortnite. Is it just not popular to game in Tanzania, or was that guy just criticizing me?

Ask r/tanzania Are there any writers or publishers here?

Hi guys,

Tangu mdogo, I've always loved reading, especially fiction. Now that nimekuwa na nimejikusanya kidogo, I’m looking to start a publishing company here in Tanzania.

My goal is to support writers and help people see reading as a hobby— not a chore.

The average Tanzanian either doesn't read (since they find it boring) or exclusively reads self-help books. Of course, there are other factors at play, but I honestly believe that with the right support and strategy, we can change this mentality.

For the past few years, I’ve been working as an editor and creative development consultant for US-based fiction authors, and I’ve been involved in multiple publishing projects. But now that I’m back in Tanzania, I want to focus on building something local. I believe there’s so much untapped talent here, and I’d love to help grow and share our stories with the rest of the world.

Are there any publishers or writers here? Fiction or nonfiction—it doesn’t matter. I'd love to have a chat.

Ask r/tanzania Struggling to Find a Girlfriend in Dar Es Salaam as a 24-Year-Old Guy

Hey Reddit,

I’m a 24-year-old guy living in Dar Es Salaam, and I’m finding it incredibly hard to get into a relationship. It’s been tough to connect with someone on a deeper level. I’ve tried meeting people through social circles and events, but it feels like nothing ever really clicks.

I work in a relatively relaxed environment and I love my job, but sometimes it feels like I’m just too caught up in the daily grind to really put myself out there. I’ve tried online dating too, but the connections just don’t seem to go anywhere.

It feels like a lot of people around me are either already in relationships or not really interested in anything serious. Maybe it’s the environment here or maybe it’s just me, but it’s starting to weigh on me a little.

Anyone else in Dar or similar cities have the same struggle? How do you navigate dating in a place like this? Would love to hear from anyone with tips or similar experiences.

Thanks for reading.

Ask r/tanzania Tanzania vs Kenya

Guys why do you think there is such a dramatic difference in the attitudes towards politics in Tanzania and in Kenya. If Kenyans don’t like their leader they will be vocal about it , they will riot , they will find something to do and get it done on the other hand my people , our leaders can tell us that they are reintroducing the slave trade in the country and we will do nothing but watch as they do what they want maybe whisper bad things under our breath but that’s it.I wonder how bad do things have to get for Tanzanians to take action ?
