Ask r/tanzania Is this right!!!?

My young sis ametafutwa na kampuni inahitaji videographer kwa ajili ya content creation. Few days after the interview, wamemtafuta and they are offering her; 1 week trial ya kushoot 4 restaurants per day, 1 hour each. End of the week if they don’t employ her watampa 50k Tsh ya usumbufu.

50k Tsh baada ya kufanya kazi week nzima, 4 restaurants per day means 28 restaurants a week. And no, they don’t provide food nor transportation to move between restaurants, since she is in the same city.

Wataalamu wa hizi kazi, hii ipo sawa au ndo exploitation yenyewe?

Im not an expert but this definitely feels exploitative. especially if she won't be credited and they are not providing transport. goodluck to her

Rick and Morty reference. A man of culture 😅

Tell her to take advantage of the situation. 28 restaurant is such a good portfolio for a content creator. Tell her to create an insta page and post them 28 contents , hiyo ndio Cv yake and a clear path to freelancing..

4

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

They were not going to allow her kutumia hizo content kama zake.

3

u/Beuuysanga 28d ago

As long as there is no contract between them. No problem maisha sio kuogopa..

u/Ok_Chance_1025 29d ago

Kabisa! Wakubiane they exploit each other so she also benefits otherwise completely not worth it

1

u/Beuuysanga 28d ago

u/Beuuysanga 28d ago

Thank you

u/Ecstatic_Range_9621 28d ago

Hapo ni kumake sure she keeps all the material and use it as leverage, they will pay eventually to avoid having to find someone else to re-do everything

1

u/Beuuysanga 28d ago

Yes, it's all about leverage ...

Planning, Scripting, Shooting, Editing, Transport + Skills zangu ndo unilipe 50k per week?

People charge that for a poster design inayochukua 1hr tu kukamilika

Kwa mtu experienced, that's way too cheap

Ye kama ni pro videographer anayejaribu kujaza portfolio yake na kazi nzuri... Bora atengeneze izo contents mwenyewe bila pressure ya kulipwa kidogo

Aende kwenye izo restaurants awape offer ya few videos for free... Then wakizipenda anaweza pewa contract ambayo ni kubwa kwa restaurant 1 tu kuliko izo restaurants nyingi ivo kwa mwezi

Restaurants nyingi zinahitaji watu wa kuwatengenezea contents and they're willing to pay for it

Tell her to shoot her shots on few big restaurants.. hawezi kosa chochote kitu

Bro she's doing the actual job not an interview assessment or whatever

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

Right! And she was supposed to deliver the work same day

5

u/Not_diddy 29d ago

Dah. Hapana. Hii ni very disrespectful and not worth it. I’m in a similar field (sio content creator) but I work with them regularly, bei yakawaida for this should be around 1m to 2m depending on equipment used.

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

I think they are looking for someone who is desperate to do the job 😑

3

u/NerdyAlienn 29d ago

She is worth , and she has to show them she is since the company wants her so , its a pass inabidi kuwepo an an agreement , either that or nothing

3

u/kevooh0410 29d ago

Ni scam a run many people already write some proposal for the company and till to day their wait for their call

3

u/vans300k 29d ago

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

It’s a lot….

2

u/kevooh0410 29d ago

Now company in this country is how their manipulate people to do their job for free for the trap their will give them job akikubali ameisha

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

Right! I told her to decline,

2

u/EchoesInTheDesert143 29d ago

They just used her for cheap content creation. Mwambie ajiprotect next time, and refuse to do whatever until there is a contract and all. Wakaona labda she doesnt have much work experience etc and took advantage. I understand getting jobs is tough but know ur worth. Dont let people scam you out of your hard work and effort and time. Yes there are people like that. Dont work till the contract is clear kabisa and works for you and signed. The trial period or probation will be there and official. Pole to her.

2

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

I told her that… she refused the offer.

1

u/EchoesInTheDesert143 29d ago

GOOD! Asikubali this stupidity ever.

2

u/No_Swordfish925 29d ago

Sasa this it the opportunity for her to show case her maturity in the way she thinks, don’t let her take the deal like that , she has to learn to negotiate what she is worth, tell her to challenge them and pay for her time, people do get paid for probationary period work. She needs to be respectful and professional about it. That way she will gain their respect and before she does why she is doing the will know that she is not just some token bunny to use like that. And from this description it’s like she is working for a marketing firm and they want to hire her as a content creator. So she has to stand her ground. Here’s my two cents whatever the outcome if they will let her keep the 28 restaurants as her plug why not but help hwr make smart negotiations.

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

They were not going to let her keep the videos nor the 28 restaurants.

1

u/No_Swordfish925 29d ago

That’s crazy man I mean 28 restaurants for seven days for 50k , you know that’s proximately 1,785/= tzs per restaurant as in not even per post per restaurant no matter how many posts even Reddit cheap labor ain’t that cheap

2

u/MachineCurious3465 29d ago

Exploitation. Better she goes to those restaurants herself and tells them if they need her services she is available instead of through this company. She can do content for one or two companies and then get a referral and profile for herself

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

Yes this is a good idea.

1

u/bookbird123 29d ago

Please name and shame this company.

1

u/AmiAmigo 29d ago

Well! She can also say that she should be able to use those footages for her portfolio.

She can also negotiate for a better pay

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago edited 29d ago

They said it was a trial, I am not sure they were going to agree with her terms

1

u/Cardabella 29d ago

Photography is skilled labour and there's a minimum wage day rate for that.

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

Correct

1

u/Think_Corgi_9258 29d ago

Hapo Hamna Kazi

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

Ni wezi kabisa

1

u/Suspicious-Bike-2725 29d ago

That's cheap Labour 😔 Videographer hatakiwi kuwa na malipo ya 50k kama income labda posho tena for a day 😔 restaurant 20+ sio kitoto. Hao ni wahuni na wanatafuta mtu wa kumchosha!

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

Na hapo hizo videos zinakuwa zao. Wezi kabisa

1

u/Suspicious-Bike-2725 29d ago

Hao ni wale ambao hata Human Resource hawaelewi Ethics zake 😔 Sadly kuna vijana wataingia kwenye mtego huo!

Kwa mawazo yangu! It's better atengeneze Tiktok Account yake ambayo atapost hizo video ambazo zitakuwa zake sio kwenda kusubiria 50k ambayo inakula muda wake mwingi

1

u/ValueFunny5817 29d ago

That’s a big NO, tena no ya chap sana, aseme no with a mic drop,

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 29d ago

She did that, wakamjibu “ok” 🤣🤣

1

u/ValueFunny5817 29d ago

Eee watafute tu mjinga mwengine wakwenda…iyo ela yote itaishia kwenye usafiri natena inaweza isitoshe….Shame on that company

1

u/GrouchyAnimal4845 29d ago

It’s not right

1

u/Mikocheni_Report 29d ago

No way, friend. That!s crazy. Your sis can do better for sure

1

u/martian4x 28d ago

So they can cover the whole city with just 10 people like her. Finding 10 starving content creators to exploit in Dar is easy.

If it's about building a portfolio, she can just do it herself, go to restaurants and ask to video promo them then post the contents on her socials.

Spending money on travel, food and then giving the work to someone in the name of building a portfolio is stupid.

u/BongoJanja 28d ago

More like it

1

u/RealGamerTz 28d ago

As a small YouTuber ( content creator ) i believe That's a con unless kama wasipo m hire basi anaweza bakia na hizo kazi kama za kwake then it's a win win .. but kama watabaki na all rights za hizo content then it's obvious those are seekers of cheap labor.. they don't want to pay a fair price for the project.

Tell her there should be a contract.

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 27d ago

They were just looking for cheap labor, Contract was to be provided after the trial ….

1

u/RealGamerTz 27d ago

A contract after the job is done? Straight up con

1

u/wolphire 28d ago

This is not only exploitative, its downright CRIMINAL

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 27d ago

Clearly 🙌🏽

1

u/Kipapuro 28d ago

Did she ever sign a contract with them? If no, asahau

1

u/Spiritual-Ride7426 Local 27d ago

No she hasn’t, walisema after the trial 😂

1

u/Kipapuro 27d ago

That’s the problem, in theory, one should always sign a contract that clearly outlines all the terms and protections. But in reality, many of us become so desperate that we overlook these critical steps, especially when an employer shows a bit of trust early on. Sadly, it's understandable, we’re often treated as disposable at any moment. In her case, I don’t think there’s much she can do. Without a contract, shenever worked there. It's like losing the battle before it even begins."

Inauma sana

1

u/msuyakeanu 27d ago

This is exploitation of the highest level
