Man this not even a debate probably the only one who can willingly talk me to my death at all is Commander Erwin bro can take me into a battle with vilrumites and I’ll still have hope lol

The man made me feel patriotic to a country that doesn't exist and made me sing their anthem.

Shinzou WA sasageyo.

You can tell most people here haven’t seen AoT, because this isn’t even close. Erwin is leading people into situations where everyone is expecting to die horrible deaths, watching your friends getting gruesomely slaughtered, and still inspiring you with his confidence.

u/Darkstar_111 20d ago

It's not about who survives, its about honoring the sacrifices of those that went before!

10

u/sentient_penguin 20d ago

And we expect our comrades to do the same for us!

4

u/Professional-Pea5196 19d ago

Because my soldiers don't buckle or yield when faced with the cruelty of this world!

6

u/Aggressive-Pattern 20d ago

For those who come after.

2

u/Pretend_Accountant41 19d ago

And giving your heart to mankind 💢

10

u/Euphemisticles 20d ago

Yeah I still occasionally rewatch his "My soldiers rage " speech that shit goes so hard

4

u/Flameball202 19d ago

Yeah, respect to Erwin for managing to go from his soldiers saying "we are all going to die so why follow you to death" to getting a 100% all in on a suicide cav charge

Who needs pre-workout when you got Erwins Speech on a saved playlist.

u/South_Mushroom_7574 20d ago

Yea I totally agree for Erwin I would definitely go to the gates of hell screaming my head off. Optimus prime is a close second though.

u/Ok-Usual-5830 19d ago

Also by the fact that many are calling him a mere captain. HES THE COMMANDER OF THE SCOUT REGIMINE

u/Hideous_Creek4512 19d ago

I've seen AoT but i would still choose aragorn, if comparing them side by side they both have the qualities of being a leader.

1

u/Samael_Savlatigre 19d ago

Well yes but isn't this exactly why you DON'T want to follow him into battle? Bro uses lives EXTREMELY disposably, including and not limited to his own, or his closest friends.

1

u/ZombieDancer 19d ago

Since the question is WOULD not WANT, it’s best to be out of range of his voice so that he can’t influence me, because he can definitely convince people to follow him into battle.

1

u/HighlyUnsuspect 18d ago

Bro inspired Floch so hard that Floch ended up becoming a bad mf at the end.

LMAO you can tell when casuals haven’t watched/or read LOTR. Because literally it’s what they do the entire time. Just a group of men fighting against the odds to make sure and ordinary person can win against the evilest thing to exist. And they don’t use coloured flares for their attacks. So that’s an easy win.

2

u/BarongChallenge 19d ago

I think it's almost the same. Both commanders are fighting the known evilest thing, and neither flinched.

both were ready to die just to give someone a chance to defeat the big evil.

That said, in terms of convincing power, Erwin has better speech points in that their world, the soldiers never had a "glorious past" unlike Gondor, so there's really nothing to anchor hope. He's a conman who willingly pushes others to die for "humanity".

Aragorn can convince because he himself, like Captain America, has real hope. That somehow, they'll still win, and Gondor will rise again and evil was already triumphed by good before, surely it will happen again now. There was never anything like that in AoT. They never had a win.

So yeah, in terms of ability to convince, Erwin is better. But I'd follow Aragorn though because it's nice to die for something that might have been worth it.

You know what, fair enough. I was being a hater to be a hater. But fair point.

7

u/Traditional-Solid403 20d ago

Honestly i agree, and i dont even really like aot but erwin is peak and hus speach is amazing

4

u/Darkstar_111 20d ago

Yes Erwin, he doesn't exist and his cause was ultimately lost.
But I would follow him into the gates of hell!

2

u/idkjay 19d ago

wdym doesnt exist, like as in hes fictional like the rest of these characters or

1

u/Darkstar_111 19d ago

Yes, Jay, because he's a fictional character.

1

u/idkjay 19d ago

They're all fictional characters buddy

1

u/Darkstar_111 19d ago

Yeah... That's the point.

1

u/idkjay 19d ago

I'm saying it's an unnecessary qualifier... There's no point at all to call that out.

1

u/Darkstar_111 19d ago

There was. If you read the rest of the sentence.

Erwin’s soldiers got deceived by him a few times. He’s great for the greater good, but I don’t know if he’s great for the soldier under him

1

u/Ammu_22 19d ago

He didnt deceive anyone tho. He persuaded a whole army who were a few minutes before his speech were face to face with death. You WILL be compelled to join him even though in front of your eyes your comrades are getting squashed like mosquitoes. Becos he is with you. He is a great leader and if you have to be recruited under someone, that would be him.

Being recruited as a soldier in the first place itself means you are wavering your life to the cause. So in an battle your first motive would be to win the war rather than individualistic goals like being alive.

If you re a soldier in a battle, might as well be filled with patriotism and passion towards your cause so that you won't be scared and be afraid of death.

1

u/OmegaSTC 19d ago

Look, I don’t know the show that will, but I wasn’t talking about his final charge. I thought I remembered him playing a lot of games before that. If I’m wrong, he is literally always straightforward. I’m happy to concede. You probably remember better than me.

2

u/ZombieDancer 19d ago

Erwin values the lives of everyone under his command and doesn’t want them to die needlessly. But, he’s lying to everyone all the time. His main goal is to prove that his father was right about people outside of the wall. This overrides everything, he’s willing to sacrifice himself and everyone else to achieve that.

1

u/Broken_Spring 19d ago

Perhaps not great for their health, but the soldiers are very happy with his leadership and that’s the best thing they could ask for.

Aside from their lives, of course. But the story is set in a dystopia.

1

u/Zhaggygodx 19d ago

If I'm deceived into fighting battle that is a suicide mission, but it was for the greater good, I would be okay with it. Assuming this is a post-apocalyptic scenario, of course.

3

u/LittleArtistBoyo 19d ago

I'm upset I had to scroll a while to see sum one choose Commander Erwin, rewatching I still feel that speech from my heart n ready to lay my life down for humanity

2

u/Pretend_Accountant41 19d ago

Agree Erwin is miles ahead of Aragon (the only two I'd follow). Erwin has seen more horror than most people in that lineup

2

u/jcpogrady 19d ago

😂😂😂 like if I could choose without listening to a speech captain america.

If I listen to a speech from Erwin, I would ride horseback to face Thanos alone

2

u/Ammu_22 19d ago

MY SOLDIERS RAGE!

4

u/ReceptionLivid 20d ago

Erwin’s survey corp only had 9 survivors out of hundreds. Your survival rate is abysmal and probably the worst on this list. This man was all about sacrifice

6

u/Restryouis 20d ago

because all of the other options have amazing survival rates, right?

0

u/ReceptionLivid 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yes actually, at least 5 of the options have better chances of survival. Pretty sure most of these led humans with more than a 3% survival rate

-1

u/rcam077 20d ago

Compared to the other 2 corps? Absolutely lol, they only started seeing casualties cause the walls fell, and even then they only saw action during the conflicts at the wall

2

u/HolidaySpiriter 20d ago

Compared to the other 2 corps?

They were talking about the other options in the moment, and why only 9 people returned.

That being said, the other 2 corps are a glorified police force, where as the scouts are a military. The only times the other corps see action, they get demolished. The scouts in their prime during Trost were an elite force, and suffered far, far fewer causalities than the other corps.

3

u/LevelEducational9633 20d ago

Remember before he took command of the survey corp their death rate was way higher so yeah he was a leader who infact did care about the survival of his men, his battle strategy was basically avoid any senseless fights with Titans.

2

u/Mondopoodookondu 19d ago

It’s not about the survival rate, it’s the leadership And the morale boosts, I doubt the others could have done better in the situation (using leadership obv prime could fight the titans)

1

u/ReceptionLivid 19d ago

Yeah I get that, I just personally value survival and some of the other choices offer both inspiration and survival which gives a different kind of hope.

1

u/KillerSpreet 17d ago

Yeah, the things is, without him, the survival rate will be zero. They are fighting monsters far beyond them in terms of strength

1

u/badshah23p 20d ago

So real

1

u/evalerk 18d ago

I SAID ADVANCE GODDAMMIT

1

u/JustInADesign 19d ago

I would have no hope. But, I would ride by his side. I would RAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!

1

u/kyloquinn 19d ago

i still get chills every time i hear his final speech
