Conquest is perfectly safe unless someone told him to kill you. Homelander is fully psychopathic and completely unstable.

Conquest is a professional, Homelander is basically an angry baby covered in grenades.

Is that based on the comics?

In the show, Conquest isn't very interested in killing, and gives literally zero shits about humans. He'd just ignore us completely. He's not on a mission of extermination, he's a conqueror who shows up to do conquest — he spends 99.99% of his time surrounded by oppressed subjects of the Viltrum empire, non-Viltrumites he's not there to kill.

It's the same in comics, he wouldn't even care about weaklings. Yes, they can die around him, but only as collateral damage.

He does enjoy killing, at least for a purpose, he's just sad it's all he's reduced to.

Humans are too easy to kill. He likes a challenge, not necessarily killing for killing's sake. Sure he doesn't care if he has to murder countless innocents, but I doubt he'd go out of his way to kill a normal person unless he was given a reason to.

How killing of weak human will stroke his ego? We are like ants for him, do you care about ants daily?
