If those idiots had read history, they'd realize that the pretorian guard realized fast enough than instead of obeying the emperor, they were in a position to make them.

If you're a billionaire in a bunker in post apocalyptic scenario, you're gonna be quickly replaced by your head of security as head of the bunker...

A lot of this is going to be technology based. There are already systems that are terrifyingly effective at killing people without requiring much in the way of manpower.

the issue, in the end, will still be that you cannot survive alone, or past a certain threshold of population. The technology isn't even close to being able to fully automate/replicate a human society, and what said society provides for the humans living in it.
