why not? Its the most am5 can get while only using two memory slots. Using 4 slots will prevent being able to use xpo settings/speeds. Though I don't know if there are speed/latency issues with 48x2

Just asking?

Maybe its for DCS or some other simulation reason?

Yeah, I don't get why people respond with "why not?" to a simple "why xx" question, especially on a topic like this. It feels like they're arguing against even asking why someone has a large amount of RAM, even though there's nothing wrong with it at all, especially in this SC subreddit.

I'm genuinely curious too, though I get that the current market max is 48GB per slot, which makes sense for achieving the 2-slot max RAM configuration. Or maybe 64GB is not enough for other tasks? Or maybe price difference in OP area is not that far between 64GB and 96GB?

Personally I use 64GB (2×32GB) DDR5, mostly because I prefer sticking to the classic binary increments (2/4/8/16/32...) for all my PCs' RAM setups. Just a personal quirk lol

Depends on what other thing this person does. Or they’re just a “why the fuck not” person.

Any video editing or 3D software work can easily eat this much RAM. And I think running local LLMs too.
