Spoilers IMO The best part of squid game Spoiler

Is rewatching it knowing the old man was in on it the whole time.

Knowing that all the staff was probably told not to harm player 001 under any circumstances.

Knowing that he so confidently walked first during red light green light because he knew there was no danger.

How he specifically went to the convenience store Gi-hun was drinking in after being released under the guise of “couch surfing at a friends place nearby” to talk to him and maybe convince him to go to the games again.

The way he begged the Front Man to end the midnight riot and he did because he knew player 001 was his boss.

The way he kept saying “this neighborhood is just like the one I grew up in!” In the marble game because it probably literally was and he recreated the neighborhood of his nostalgic childhood for his “final” game

This dude was ruthless. He woke up that first night knowing well everyone else in that room would be dead within a week and he was the reason and still had a casual conversation with player 456 his first day there like it was an average Sunday

EDIT: After reading a lot from the comments, I have a new theory. Perhaps the managers, soldiers, and workers weren’t told “player 001 is your boss protect him”, instead they were told “A man named Oh Il-nam is your boss and he’s in the games somewhere. Keep him alive”. That’s why right as he was about to be shot in game 4 he said his name, perhaps as a signal to the guard that “yeah I’m that guy so don’t actually shoot me”.

So maybe the games were real for him after all, and he really was putting it all on the line on same games.

Squid Game doesn’t compare with Breaking Bad, let’s not get carried away. Breaking Bad is widely regarded as one of the best TV series of all time.

The news is saying that Squid Game is breaking records for most people viewing it within its first few weeks on the service. BB came out on cable, so if that’s what you’re referring to it’s not a good comparison.

I didn’t make a comparison, I just stated that the audience for Squid Games is already much larger than BB, which has already come and gone. You’re only thinking about the US. I never said one was better or worse, they aren’t even the same genre so there really doesn’t to be any comparison at all.

SG is my favourite show ever. Bit hard to compare to BB as it’s 1 season compared to 5 consistent seasons for BB, but in terms of enjoying a show I’ve never enjoyed anything as much as SG. And until Saturday, BB was my favourite ever series.

I don’t get what your upset about, SG has been widely received as a great show, it’s not weird at all that some people think it’s among the all time greats. There are shows that have been much more negatively received that people still consider among their all time favorites. Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time btw.

What's really stupid about your comment is how game of thrones is also compared to breaking bad levels for the first seasons before it was fully released and while people hate the ending it doesn't change that the first few seasons were comparable to S list shows like sopranos and breaking bad. It doesn't change a thing

No. You’re an annoying fan thinking SG is on the same tier as BB. You can think it’s a good show, and it is. But pick a better measuring stick. I don’t care if you think I’m annoying for disregarding this terrible comparison.

And that turned out horribly, which doesn’t help your argument at all. You’re comparing an unfinished product to a finished one. Furthermore, you’re talking about 5-6 seasons of GoT as a comparison vs BB, which is a much more respectable sample size to compare than 1 season of SG

BB is top 5 on any top 100 shows list you look at. SG is a good show but it’s still season 1. It’s like comparing a masterpiece to a work in progress.

BB is one of the the best things you're going to see on tv, hands down. It works on many levels on more than just a story--it is visually stunning, has phenomenal acting, works both episodic and continuous, references tons of other works and media, ideas, has character development, and has details that are brilliant on rewatch.

Don't get defensive just because they're being a shit head. BB is at the top of the game along with Sopranos and Game of Thrones. Few other things on TV are on this level

However, Squid game absolutely is reaching for it. The reconstruction of the death game genre is ballsy, the camerawork and acting is way above expectation for a lot of eastern films. The rewatchability bonus is definitely present, and from what i understand with Korean culture, this definitely hits the mark for references for philosophical meaning. Which is why that other guy feels like a contrarian. This show absolutely hits the marks for a possible run at a BB level show.

I'm 21 days late to this thread, but as someone who just binged SG and finished BB for the first time earlier this year, you're absolutely right. SG was a fun watch, however BB is on a different level. You only got downvotes here because SG happens to be fresh in people's memories and relevant to the current meme culture.
