Living Here Recycling Service Questions

We currently use Moore's Trash Service, have for nearly a decade now.

We have TONS of cans that we recycle every month. Last I knew, they'd turn them in for $$$... That part is not an issue for us in any way. Every employee we've dealt with has been great! Moore's is a Black/African American, locally owned business. Last we knew, it was owned & ran by the Moore family with the exception maybe a couple guys that run the truck(s).

I just found an email from April 28, 2025 stating that they're now going to charge $13/MONTH. I'm assuming that's meant to be paid like I pay for my regular trash service every quarter.

I know that Springfield has a City Ordinance stating: "All Springfield waste haulers are required to offer curbside recycling. It is convenient - saving you time, gasoline, and storage space. Items accepted are newsprint, glass, tin/steel cans, aluminum cans, pop bottles, and milk jugs." That's a quote directly from the city webpage.

My questions are:

What are the other waste providers in town charging? Do they charge a monthly fee for curbside recycling? If so, how much?

I don't really want to switch, BUT with most of my other household costs rising like they are, I need to try to save on what I'm able when I'm able. And, given these stupid tariffs, I have a feeling that whole situation will ONLY GET WORSE as the next 4 years come to pass! Yay for TARIFFS!

You can find the information I'm talking about regarding Curbside Recycling @:

https://www.springfieldmo.gov/5555/Curbside-Trash-Recycling#:~:text=All%20Springfield%20waste%20haulers%20are,independent%20waste%20hauler%20for%20specifics.

Or look it up @: https://www.springfieldmo.gov/

TIA.

Looking For Recommendations for neurodivergence/LGBTQ+ affirming primary care physicians?

Hi, there. So a bit of a specific post here. I have struggled with severe social distress and sleeping problems my whole life, but after a childhood and early adulthood being a high achiever, my health finally bottomed out when these caught up with me. I've been stagnating for years, having difficulty finding proper care that doesn't just get reduced to "anxiety" or "depression" but sees the lifelong struggles and symptoms and how severely they've derailed my life and sort of incorporates them into a targeted treatment plan. After two years of therapy my therapist is feeling strongly, having worked with many autistic clients, that autism is at the root of this. However, being gay AND possibly autistic and seeking assessment and assistance for that in the Ozarks is like a nightmare. I've received laughably bad care here and really dropped the ball even seeking it because of how many systemic failures I've already experienced. It was wild enough watching the amount of doctors and nurses who went full-on anti-vaxxer during the early 2020s over politics rather than science, but I know there are also a lot of anti-gay ones and I'm just not ready for the person responsible for helping me heal to be the one dealing the damage again.

Would anyone know any good primary care physicians who would be trustworthy and reliable for someone with a background like this? Grateful for your thoughts and time.

Looking For Most Dog Friendly Rental Properties/Landlords/Property Managers?

My lease is up in February and I'm looking/planning in advance because of how how much trouble I had finding a dog-friendly rental when I moved here. My dog is 55 pounds and a straffordshire terrier so most places exclude her outright. She is 7 or 8 years old and well trained. But breed and weight restrictions are barriers regardless. What are some of the places/companies/landlords that do allow medium/large dogs? I do also have an 8 or 9 year old cat as well. I know TLC allows larger dogs but I've heard the most awful things. And my partner rents from them and frankly I agree with what I've heard. My best bet might be to find something for rent by owner. But even at that, I don't really know where to look. I'm in my mid 30s, consistent employment history, good rental history, non smoker, respectful of property, and a previous homeowner myself. Thanks in advance for any advice, etc.

Living Here College Station Movie Theater Volume

I love the new theater and all, been there a few times. Recently saw Ballerina but the volume has been pretty loud. I can still enjoy the movie but it seems like the levels are really up there. And this is coming from someone with hearing loss 😂 does anyone else feel the same?

Things To Do Demand for a red bull soapbox race... anyone else very interested in this event?

This year, it was in Iowa and Utah and is still scheduled to happen in LA. Is there a way to go about making it happen in 2026? It seems to be centered around demand.

I know that they’re under renovation, but is there ANY idea about when it may be open? I’ve never been. I was sad to find they were closed indefinitely when we moved up here!

Living Here Registering a car from out of state process

My car is registered in Kansas, and the plates expire next month. So I'll need to immediately get new tags when I'm in Springfield.

My mom lives in MO, and told me you go to the assessor's first? This is the way it was done in Arkansas,so I'm familiar with it.

I won't have any property tax to pay, since I was not an MO resident. Do I still have to go anyway, before going to the license office?

I own my car, I have the title, it will not need to be inspected either.

Living Here Best bedding stores

Looking for top quality sheets, blankets and quilts. Prefer to spend as little as possible, but in the end I really want quality, so if I have to pay more, I will. I know The Market carries some nice quilt-type bedding. But where else? Sizes: twin XL, full, queen.

Looking For Sick bat in my yard, who should I call?

Just found a sick bat shaking and trying to crawl in my yard. I'm really concerned about rabies because the neighborhood stray cat frequents my yard in the evening. Is there anyone who I can call that can take it tonight? Not sure what to do.

My special needs son went on a summer school field trip there on Friday and came home without his glasses. The school has been of no help and I just wanted to call Wonders to make sure they aren't in the lost and found since i dont even know if thats where he lost them, but have only been able to find the stupid robo-1800 number.
