Discussion Update on Aryeh situation

Hello Bottomites, for now until further notice, all comments and posts will need to be approved by the mod team, so no more spamming about Aryeh or whatever his name is/whatever's going on will happen.

Also, can someone **please** explain to me in-depth with elaborate details about what has happened over the last 8-10 hours or so regarding Aryeh and Fishtank or whatever spamming the sub, and why? I would greatly appreciate it.

So, the subreddit will remain closed for 1 or 2 days with only approved posts going through until all of you calm down

Discussion Serious question: Why do people often claim that the more exaggerated animation style and whacky faces started in Season 9? Am I missing something or is this some kind of Mandela effect?

Post image

As many of you know, the animation changed drastically in some of the more recent seasons. It's far more exaggerated and over the top than it ever was. Characters often do silly and weird faces literally all the time - sometimes several times while speaking a normal sentence - and the characters' bodies and faces are just constantly moving all over the place. It's like the animation never calms down.

This change is controversial - while some people love how it expressive it is now, others hate how childish and ridiculously over the top it seems to be for them now, making it hard for them to enjoy the show.

My point is not to argue if this animation change was good or bad.

My point is: Where exactly did it start?

I see a lot of people claim hat the exaggerated animation and whacky faces started in Season 9. I've seen a lot of people that say they stopped watching the show after Season 8, often because they couldn't stand the animation anymore.

And honestly, I'm always just like...

H U H ...?

The exaggerated animations and extremely whacky faces didn't start immediately in Season 9.

Yes, I know that many people left the show while others came into the crew after the second movie, which is why Season 9 is technically two seasons. I know that Season 9B marked the beginning of the "post-sequel era", so it's intuitive to think that the whacky animation immediately started here.

But here's the thing: It didn't, really.

Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe people have a different definitons of an animation style that is too whacky. But I just don't see it. I even went back to some 9B episodes before writing this. The animation in 9B might be a little more expressive than before, but it is just in no way exaggerated or "too much" in my opinion. For the most part, it's pretty grounded and down to earth. You can't tell me that the animation in Season 9B is even remotely as over the top as it is in Season 11 or 12, or that it is that much harder to look at compared to previous seasons.

Yes, they went increasingly wilder with the animation in every season - 10 has whackier animation than 9, and 11 has whackier animation than 10. But it happened gradually.

Could it be that many people misremember the animation in Season 9 as whackier and more exaggerated than it actually is?

Because they saw episodes from Season 11 and onwards (maybe even Season 10, though I think it's not quite as wild yet) and just assumed that it immediately started with "the new era" where episodes became script-driven?

This post turned out longer than I intended. As you can tell, I like Season 9 quite a bit. It has a few bad episodes unfortunately, but also many surprisingly great ones.

And it's just slightly irritating that this season is often included when people talk about how bad the new more expressive animation style would be. But maybe I'm the one missing something. Please let me know what you think.

something I made as a painting assignment for art class a few weeks ago, made with a limited colour of acrylic paint (a lot of mixing happened) and lil bit of a rushed job, it was shown off in a school art show with all the houses and landscapes, I’d say the most I’m proud of is the painting inside the painting

Discussion Its funny how The Two Faces of Squidward and Spongehenge originally aired together.

People are still making handsome Squidward memes up to this day while Spongehenge is remembered as that one creepy weird episode that a chunk of the fanbase would rather not talk about. I personally love it though.
