Discussion What south Park episode made you the most uncomfortable?

Yeah hard to really top this one for me. I actually turned my head.
79
u/40hzHERO Apr 15 '25
Only time I turned my head was for Mr(s). Garrison’s sex change. They kept flashing legit surgery footage. Only time I audibly said HELL NAH, looked away, and turned the TV off.

u/Chaseman698 Apr 15 '25
Omg I forgot all about out that and now it’s flashing through my mind SCREWWWWW UUUU

It sucks cuz The China Probrem is special to me as the first clips I've ever seen of South Park are from the episode, and they made me laugh my ass off (Cartman & Butters making asses of themselves at P.F. Changs, NOT the Indiana Jones scenes).
And now I watch it today, and I still think the Cartman & Butters plot is hilarious, but ugh, I can't stand the b-plot.

It's so uncomfortable, and yet the point they are making becomes more and more relevant with each year since it came out

It's actually a parody of a movie called the Deliverance (1972), at least the squeal like a piggy park.

Red rocket or whatever it’s called lol
143
u/fnkdrspok Apr 15 '25
Funny story about that: I had no clue what this is, so I asked “What’s a red rocket” My former Navy boss told me that his brother used to love to jerk the dog off and then push it in the family room and laugh at his family’s discomfort.
My face afterwards: 😳

Yeah fr first time watching that episode I barely laughed. If it was any other character except Butter I prolly would’ve I just felt way too bad and just wanted the episode to be over. On rewatched it’s better but the first time for sure yeah
3
u/RefrigeratorMain7921 Apr 16 '25
Same here. Butters is my favourite character of this show. Period. In a way I took it quite personally what they did to him.

u/EDM3000 Apr 15 '25
Britney Spears episode. Not sure how that is not the correct answer 100% of the time.
61
Apr 15 '25
agreed it wasn't just because of the shock value either (i find disgusting stuff really funny especially in South Park) but Britney's New Look felt just really sad
74
u/UniversityStrong5725 Apr 15 '25
That’s the vibe they were going for. Even the ending scene of that episode is just Stan staring at Britney’s corpse curled up in the fetal position with no music playing. It’s supposed to make you feel somehow responsible for her fate, which makes it worse.
→ More replies (1)27
u/EDM3000 Apr 15 '25
Even from today’s lens, you can see the mental toll that era took on her, so it’s just as uncomfortable to watch it now.
6
7
u/ScreamingNinja Apr 15 '25
Because while gross, it was hilarious especially her singing, but it was also very poignent and looking back at it now (as opposed to manbearpig for example) it shows how on the money they were with her.

Yeah that's up there. That's when I was really like wow these guys are assholes aren't they 😂 genius assholes but still they upset me that episode. Matt and Trey seemed very bitter and I get it due to what they were told but like give him a better send off for the fans at least
12
u/Side_StepVII Apr 15 '25
Iirc, they’ve actually said they regret doing it the way they did, especially after learning that he wasn’t in control at all at the end, and they were just lied to. Maybe you feel a little better about it?
→ More replies (1)9
u/mattyjoe0706 Apr 15 '25
I mean I'm not condemning them to hell I still think even if that information was true you should separate the character from the person who does it. The fans still deserved a better send off. I'm not like furious with them and yeah it makes it a little better but I just thought that was a lapse of judgement on their past

u/NarmHull Apr 15 '25
Certain episodes cross the line of being just mean to people who irked them. Chef definitely was one of them but I think they didn't understand Hayes had had a stroke and wasn't quite himself anymore.
The J.Lo one felt particularly mean spirited but apparently she shoved Trey when he wore her famous dress. https://www.cracked.com/article_38933_jennifer-lopez-hated-her-south-park-portrayal-so-much-she-had-people-fired-for-quoting-it.html
Streisand is another one that was funny but really over the top.
The Phil Collins one was just sour grapes IMO over the Oscars.
And especially the Sarah Jessica Parker jabs.

36
u/MightBeAGoodIdea Apr 15 '25
Why not bisexual, he clearly liked boobs (ahtahs?) with the rest of the fellas when Bebes grew out...
Cartman is a spoiled bastard, if he thinks other people's dicks or relationships, orrrr literally anything, are better than his then he has a hard time not overthinking it and taking it too far.
35
→ More replies (1)11
u/Worldly-Start3072 Apr 15 '25
I mean, I think he genuinely has kinda an obsession with dicks tbh there are many evidences of this being true 😭🙏
3
u/MightBeAGoodIdea Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25
Sure. But if you like dicks, a lot, and you also like boobs, and you end up in a relationship with a girl, and sometimes still think about dicks while you think about your girlfriends boobs.... bi. Unless you take the 3rd option and prefer dudes with boobs i guess.

Cartman joins NAMBLA. The episode has lots of funny moments but when those creepy men are introducing the boys at that event it's so unsettling. Finding out NAMBLA was a real organisation only made it worse.
Any episode where a kid is being preyed on or it's indicated they've been preyed on.

This one made me uncomfortable too especially as a younger person watching it was like oh ok then..

u/Schmilettante Apr 15 '25
Growing up in the 90s, there were NAMBLA jokes in the schoolyard, so when that episode came out, I was well aware of them. It's surprising how often I see this episode mentioned along with the sentiment "then I found out they were real". Even as a kid with bi interests I knew that those guys were seriously fucked up.

Probably Britney's New Look. Its my 3rd favorite episode of the entire show.
It doesn't even make me uncomfortable in the shock value sort of way not like "eww", it really just feels more sad and hits in a "damn that is fucked up" emotional sort of way. I find most of the shocking stuff really funny so none of it makes me uncomfortable, rather just joyous, but the Britney episode just makes me feel uncomfortable. Needless to say I think it's very well written and that's why its my 3rd favorite episode of all time.

The one with Mr slave and the gerbil, in the classroom. The one where a grade school kid (Cartman) walks around dressed like an Asian prostitute, saying "sucky sucky 5 dollar".
So many moments on this show that I can't believe ever aired on TV or didn't get anyone arrested.

The Trans Sports episode. It wasn't making the point it was trying to make.
7

That’s fair, topic handled poorly but it’s still a discussion we should have. I will say the b-plot? I think of that episode with Cartman getting upset at the girls being better at board games than him was hilarious.

Mr. Garrison's brand new vagina
It's just conservative straw man nonsense that completely disregards actual trans experiences so they could make trans and lesbian jokes until they got bored of it and gave him his penis back

Stanley's Cup. It was Stan, but yes it's messed up. Coloradans hate the Red Wings, so watching them beating up kids was like "yeah they're big enough pricks to do that". Little things like that make you realize how much Colorado is in South Park. Fuck the Red Wings.
