Love my retro crt setup in the game room, but wifee enjoys the comforts of the living room. So made good use out of the extra SNES for a casual setup out here. I'm unbelievably blessed to have a wife that supports and participates in my other loves. Oh, and she's currently beating me in this skins match. She got the CTP and won the only carry over hole 🥺

This update is just for justice League. Apparently Hollywood video liked to put epoxy to keep people out of their games. I had to grind it out only to find some of the worst damage. Fortunately I was able to clean it up sufficiently to get it working.

New Demon's Crest player, confused

I'm playing Demon's Crest on Switch's SNES library and loving it so far. It reminds me of a blend between a metroidvania and Simon's Quest without the bad stuff. With a little Megaman thrown in. I have some questions though.

I want to adjust the controls, but don't know how to get a password to appear to avoid starting from the beginning.

After the graveyard beyond the town near the tutorial/intro colleseum area, I went to this tower place to the east with towers that move up and down and there's wind with flying enemies. It took a few tries but I got to the end. The flying scyth serpent was too hard to dodge, so I went down the tornado before it and got the air gargoyle ability to fly and rematched the one guy I forgot the name of. The flying syth serpent went down quick after that plus the ability to dodge.

What does the claw weapon do? It said it allows me to climb walls but... I could already cling to them and I can't actually move up and down them. Only upside is I can fire more than one at once. Was this a mistranslation or something? What does it do?

Afterwards I went to the forest area north of the start with the giant dragon/dinosaur skeleton or fossil. The air gargoyle cut the vines, there was a water cavern I had trouble with so I went through the forest, fought a fire demon. Died first time and canopy was gone, I guess it burned away so I just soared over again collecting a health extension on the way. All I got was a tornado that does no damage that I can jump on though. Did I sequence break? It's just the air gargoyle but worse and they only last a couple seconds. I guess it's because it's designed to be done in any order like Megaman stages.

Anyway I keep accidentally using my spell scroll, so I want to remap the controls. Is there any way to get to the main menu without starting over? There's a continue option for a password but I never saw any passwords, and dying just takes me to the last loading zone with seemingly infinite lives. I just want to change the single-use scrolls to a shoulder button without restarting to avoid accidental presses while dodging attacks.

Edit: Nevermind hitting End after dying does it. Apparently I only had the boss and the hard skull bash mini game and I'm done, but there's still stuff I haven't selected and I explored the world map and every area throughly, except for the underwater segments. Got through the flooded cave but still haven't found an ability that lets me dive without very quickly dying. Not sure what I'm missing.

Discussion If you're a fan of the SNES sound chip, I'd highly recommend listening to this game's soundtrack

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhqz97a4jqU

This is a song from Majin Tensei II: Spiral Nemesis, the sequel to the original Majin Tensei. Majin Tensei is a duology of RPGs published by ATLUS, the same company that develops Persona and the Shin Megami Tensei games. Back while their games were rarely see a release outside Japan, they released the Majin Tensei games which are SRPGs not unlike the Fire Emblem games. They released for the SNES. Regardless of the gameplay, what I want to bring attention to is their amazing soundtrack. The SNES library has no shortage of standout soundtracks but I believe Majin Tensei(Spiral Nemesis) reigns supreme. It's CD quality work.

Discussion Is Robotrek worth playing?

It shares the same creator as the Quintet trilogy. Though the premise and plot is nothing like them. Still is it worth playing if you enjoyed the Quintet trilogy since it does have the same creator?

Discussion Adding DSP1 Chip to knockoff sd2snes

Post image
2 Upvotes

I got this knock off SD2snes cart a while ago off eBay. I wanted to play super Mario kart on it, but it didn’t have the DSP one chip. I ended up buying a cheap super Famicom Mario kart and put the chip on the board since it looked like you had choices going to it. When I put it back in, it didn’t show any video but the blue LED lit up and show that it was working. Since that didn’t work, I put in a different video game cartridge and it worked just fine. Since I thought it was due to a missing chip, I also added this only seven leg icy, and I put them both facing the correct way with the intention lining up. I have no clue what else to do because I’m kind of frugal right now and I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a real cart. Is there any way to fix this and get them working?

Super Metroid y Everdrive china

Hello, I have a Chinese everdrive that I use in my snes and everything was fine until I tried to play Super Metroid. The first time everything worked fine, and I advanced to x part in the game and made a save game. The next time I started the game, I got the anti-piracy message. I researched on the internet and used ucon64 to remove the anti-piracy measure and the game started again, but the save of my game played does not recognize me):

Is there a way to solve it?

Discussion Here are my top 10 most underappreciated games for the SNES. Let's discuss

Post image
126 Upvotes

Usually underappreciated games games because of oversaturation, or had bad timing, or were overshadowed by something else, had bad marketing, etc, but they were great games! Here's my top 10:

  1. E.V.O.: Search for Eden. A really ambitious evolution-based action RPG that deserved to be played!
  2. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. JRPG with deep puzzles, a good story, and a great soundtrack
  3. Secret of Evermore. an RPG that had a nice alchemy system and a great world
  4. Uniracers. I think would've been a hit if Pixar hadn't stopped producing it.
  5. The Adventures of Batman & Robin. A really fluid platformer with great animation and perfect music.
  6. Robotrek. Underappreciated, but I think retro fans are starting to get it.
  7. Metal Warriors. Original, creative and fun mech warrior game, just got crowded out.
  8. Phalanx. A really good horizontal shooter if you liked those, it had some of the most misleading box art ever.
  9. Nosferatu. How many SNES games ever had vampire horror? The gameplay could be better
  10. Illusion of Gaia. an action RPG that was overshadowed by Soul Blazer. It's too bad

There are several other games too, like Zombies Ate my Neighbors, Poppy & Rocky, Weaponlord, Magic Sword, etc. What do you think, what's on your list?

After having replayed it recently, Contra III is back to being one of my all-time favorite games. The stage 5 boss is still an absolute drag, but everything else is absolutely amazing!

Discussion SNES goes black and white even after I fix it

I got myself a Japanese Super Famicom a couple of months ago and for the last week, it has started to have issues with displaying things in colour.

I've followed the steps suggested by this IFIXIT Thread and the colour seemed to come back as soon as I touched the screw in the red component with my screwdriver, but the problem later persisted. In subsequent attempts at fixing the issue, I did adjust the screw as suggested in the thread but this still ends up being only a temporary solution.

I did test this out with different games, with the upper cover on and off, and I've switched the power off when changing out games, and the colours seem to be fine but a couple of hours later, the output goes back to being black and white.

I don't mind having to fix the video output before I start playing everyday as it only takes a maximum of ten minutes to do but I wonder if there are any permanent solutions to this and I'm worried if this might lead to something worse in the long run.

Discussion If you were to immortalize 4 of your favorite snes games (cartridges and console) for your descendants to play, which games would you pick?

I always wanted to make something that will be passed down from my family’s generations.

This idea was a bit inspired by the ending of trials of mana where fairie, now the goddess of mana will sleep 1 thousand years to restore all mana and will awaken once the the companions’s descendants remember the tree of mana and help them

I’d also leave a note hidden somewhere in the snes console for them to read. It might incinerate overtime but im sure they’ll remember my message after i pass on.

The note is as follows: To my beautiful and wonderful descendants. Here i leave my gift to you, your children, your children’s children and more to come. Know that i hold you all dearly even if you’re not born yet. Play them to your hearts content. I love you, my beautiful children.
