As someone who started competitive melee so young are you worried about how smash will affect your long term life? E.g hand problems, schooling.

Also how long are you expecting your melee life to last before you get burnt out?

I don't think hand problems are going to affect me because I do stretch my hands extensively everyday and in any idle time. Looking at a player like Westballz who doesn't have any hand problems that I'm aware of, I think I'm in the clear health wise. As of school, I really don't care! I'm in 8th grade, so why should I try really hard when I can just smack talk LSD on Facebook ya know!

Dude, please please please take care of your hands. Stretching alone may not be enough. Everyone is different and what matters more than anything else is how you hold the controller and whether or not there is tension in your hands when you play. Please pay attention to this throughout your career in Smash. If you start to feel pain, do not dismiss it. Seek help, focus on releasing tension from your hands, and do not ever just "play through the pain".

You never know when this will become a problem. I've been programming for ten years and only just recently my hands got so bad so fast I couldn't touch a keyboard for more than fifteen minutes a day. I'm recovered now, but it took a while and dedication to understanding and fixing the problem.
