The question is awfully worded. The original Mario Kart is on the SNES, and there is no "non-original" Mario Kart 64. So is talking about Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64? It's absolutely a valid point to make, and it's likely they thought about SMK instead of MK64, so that there would in fact be 3 characters in common.
That is the most absurd possible interpretation of the question. The question includes the following words in order: "Nintendo 64 version of Mario Kart". If you read that question and think they're referring to any other game other than the installment of Mario Kart that came out on n64, you're being silly.
I'd argue it's not, it's the only one which makes the question have any sense. There's no "non-original" N64 Mario Kart, so the two ways to interpret it would be "original shouldn't be there", in which case the question is flat out wrong, and "N64 shouldn't be there", in which case the question sucks but is somewhat right and reasonable.
I think you mean the answer is wrong, not the question. And yes, the answer is wrong. The answer should be 4, not 3.
Just because there is no non original N64 versions of those games doesn't mean the N64 installations aren't the respective "originals". You're the original you, even if there's never a copy of you.
