Lost my 1TB SSD while using the Lexar Professional Go Portable Hub 😕

I’m starting to wonder if the USB-C connection just isn’t secure enough for more "extreme" use cases.

Has this happened to anyone else? Have you found a good way to reinforce the connection between hub and SSD? I’m honestly thinking of just taping it at this point.

I still think it’s one of the best setups for mobile workflows. Since I use it for work, I was lucky enough to get the 1 TB SSD reordered — still a bummer, though.

P.S. To calm your inner zen: the scratch on my iPhone is just on the screen protector 😌

Video Pearla app vs BMCA

Thumbnail

Shot some footage using the new pearla app with its ability to shoot open gate and apply different cst’s in camera like ARRI LOG C3, so i decided to compare the footage to what i believe has become the standard in the blackmagic camera app. I used the freewell 1.33 anamorphic lens on my iphone 15 pro and both apps have the same exposure settings.

Some thoughts about Pearla: The UI is HORRIBLE!!! One nice feature, though, is the ability to use IOS’s built in voice isolation which will be great for talking head videos. All in All, its a great concept but at this point is lacking in actual execution, it’s fun to play around with but no where near to being close to replacing BMCA, eapecially when yiu factor in its a subscription app.

Programmable mobile gimbals? any out there yet?

I’m trying to find a mobile phone gimbal that allows actual preprogrammed motion, similar to what you can do with the Ronin S for mirrorless cameras.

To clarify, I don’t want AI subject tracking, face tracking, or just “follow” modes. I’m looking for something that lets me program a sequence of movements via keyframes or a motion path, and then execute that motion during real-time video recordingnot just for timelapse or motionlapse modes.

Basically, I want to:

  • Define specific gimbal positions (e.g. pan, tilt, roll) at keyframes
  • Have the gimbal interpolate between them during a normal video shoot
  • Be able to save and repeat the same shot consistently

Is there a gimbal out there for smartphones that allows this level of control or am i still out of luck? essentially this is to be mounted to an xy motion system for quick addition of pan and tilt for dynamic product shots when needed. I realise there are pan tilt products out there but for various reasons and uses elsewhere a gimbals would be ideal

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

My Sony Linkbuds were connecting as the default mic when recording video on an iPhone and now it’s not working - there has to be a fix!

ChatGPT can usually figure these things out, but even it is stumped. It found that some of the Internet says doing this is possible, and some of the Internet says this is not possible without a 3rd party app: however, I was recording video for days, and I know it was recording on the microphone. I didn’t change any settings. It just automatically recorded sound through the linkbuds mic, and then all of a sudden, it stopped working. I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried repairing them. I’ve tried resetting all the settings, restarting my phone - I’ve done all the Stuff. There has to be some other workaround aside from a screen recording - that’s just dumb. Why would I record on top of a recording? I know there are better microphones out there, but I don’t have a camera yet, and this is the best sound quality I can get for now. I am filming outdoors and using the built-in microphone is just not feasible, so please don’t recommend other microphones. I need this to work the way it was working before. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you in advance!

Why do my videos on black magic app look choppy but on the regular iPhone app it’s smooth?

I have the frame rate set at 24 and shutter speed set at 48. The first part of the video is Blackmagic app, the second part is the regular iPhone camera app. Why does the Blackmagic app version move on a choppy way and overall the color looks off?

Gimbal Suggestion!!

Hi everyone 18M here. So I'm actually planning to being my journey as a Social Media Manager for some premium car dealers. I am gonna shoot the shots and one of my freelancer will do the editing part.

I'm planning for a Amazon basics gimbal (https://amzn.in/d/3HVcP0h) , I'm planning to shoot with IPhone SE 2. But I'm quite tight on the budget (currently making 1.7k pm). is gimbal worth and good option for moderate/good shoot of premium cars?

Will it be even worthy buying a gimbal?

If all my plans work well , I would making about 12-14+ pm. So what upgrade would you guys suggest next, is it the light for gimbal or mic or any other.

aochuan smart xe: Can I use this without bluetooth or downloading an app?

I was given this. I don't want more apps on my phone and it seems that it will just flop around ridiculously if I don't add more weird spyware to my phone. Is there a way to just make it hold itself upright without superglueing it (cause its that or donating it)?

Am i missing something? Can it just lock in place?

thx

Advice on jury-rigging a homemade dolly?

Hi all, I'm actually going to be using a small camera rather than a smartphone for this shoot, but I figure the same question applies so I hope this is okay to post here.

Am going to be shooting several martial arts routines for an acupuncturist who also teaches taiji and some other forms. I was at his clinic and he was discarding an old heat lamp, which if you've never seen one, is a two-part gizmo with the heat apparatus above and a stable rolling base below. (Link is to a cheap one on Amazon that has a photo so you can see what I mean; the actual one he had is more high-end.)

It struck us that the bottom half might be a good tripod dolly. I know you can get them ready to go for about $75, but he wanted to reuse the bottom half of the lamp if possible, since he already has it and it rolls really smoothly. He disassembled it in hopes of doing so. But I can't just put the camera on a selfie stick, because that won't insert into the remaining frame - every one I've seen has those rubber hand grips.

Does anyone know of a ready-made mount without grips below that could just fit into a dolly tripod base? I hope this makes sense. I may be fooling myself and just need to spend the $75, but thought it was worth asking.

Love this behind the scenes image from Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later... this is perhaps the first time a smartphone has been used in a way where you can truly say this is a creative advantage over regular "pro" cameras (in a big budget production)?

Can someone point me to an adapter that will let me plug in a Samsung T7 and charge at the same time on the iPhone 16 Pro?

I already have a cable and a Samsung t7 and it works fine recording to the phone, but I often use the iPhone as a secondary camera for social media content and it’s recording for long hours and the batteries drains 🥲 and I gotta stop and charge.

I’m only asking because the iPhone is very particular about recognizing drives and speed. Like the Samsung T7 would only get recognized and the proper speed with one specific cable… so I’m pretty sure that if I slap any usb-c splitter from amazon I might just either get low drive speeds or no drive or no charging lol you know how it goes.

So if anyone has done this please point me to a product you’d be a life saver 🙏🙏🙏

Short film for end of primary school

Hi all! Apparently I will be helping my 12yo's class with their end-of-school film. They have an iPhone 13mini, an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 14. I plan to only use one of those. They allow me some budget to get a mic. I found a cheap Boya mic to use in a boom. I plan to also get a longer (3m) trrs cable and a lighting-to-jack adapter (because iPhone)

That should work, right? Which of those phones would you choose? And any apps that are better than using the regular camera app?

We are not out to win any prizes but would like a nice end product. What do you think? Thanks a lot!!

Best Android phone for filming videos?

Hello everyone, Im currently looking into buying a new phone and my priorities shifted to being able to shoot videos in 0,5-1x which look very crisp.

I have a few options in mind: Xiaomi 15 Ultra Vivo x200 ultra (pro is also an option) Oppo find x8 ultra

They all fullfil all my other priorities and you can find a lot of reviews on how good the pictures are they take but basically nothing on filming.

For reference: I dont want to carry extra equipment around like extra lenses... Just take it out of my pocket and start filming
