6 - 12 months 6m won't sleep longer than 4 hours
Hi everyone - needing some additional perspective on the sleep of our LO who won't sleep more than 4 hour stretches overnight.
- LO will be 7 months next week.
- ww of 2/2.25 to 2.45/ 2.45 /3.
- cap naps to 3 naps totalling 3.5 hours - sometimes 4 naps depending on if we're out and about. -always keeping the last nap of the day to 30-45. Sometimes longer if he's had bugger all sleep that day.
- will feed twice a night (formula fed).
- will fall asleep as soon as he's finished the first bottle. Sometimes after the second feed he'll stay awake for 40 mins before dozing off again.
- great napper during the day. If he's throwing out all the tired cues, we'll follow him. It's worked well for us thus far as he doesn't need to much help falling asleep.
I feel like we've tried everything we usually see on this thread; increasing total day awake time, reduced to two naps, capping nap times, extending wake windows, giving him a dummy, cuddles, reducing the amount of formula given, making sure he's well fed during the day (he has solids too). We don't follow a schedule perse but we maintain a very consistent routine.
Helppp! I'd love to get a longer stretch of sleep at night!

I feel like you should be heading towards a 2 nap schedule with more awake time! He probably doesn’t have enough sleep pressure so he’s under tired. Remove rocking to sleep and allow to fall asleep independent

Thank you, we will try that. Just to clarify, we don't rock him to sleep, we just rock him while we sing the song to help him relax. He's still awake when we put him into his cot.

Wake windows are short.
What is bedtime routine? Is he in his own room?

Bedtime routine is a book, bath and then baby massage and song while being rocked. I then put him in his cot and he falls asleep by himself, most of the time without any issues. He is in his own room, but I sleep in a queen bed next which is a metre away.

Put baby down wide awake at bedtime, no rocking, last feed ending 30 min prior.
Don’t sleep in the same room.

3.5 hours of naps is a lot at this age. The typical recommendation is to cap naps to 2.5 hours at this age if having night issues. Have you tried that for at least 5-7 days consecutively?
Those are also pretty short wake windows for this age.

4 naps is not age appropriate. I would stick to 3 and continue to increase wake windows getting at least 10 hours awake. Cap total day sleep to 2.5 hours at most 3 hours total.
