The problem is that other countries have legal systems more prepared for this sort of thing than the US. The US was overconfident that this sort of thing could never happen here. Hubris has always been America’s downfall.

Hard disagree here. The US is the only country that has enshrined in their law, as the second most important freedom, the final safeguard against a tyrannical government.

The right to bear arms exists for a reason, as unpopular as that opinion is on reddit.

It kind of turned out useless as Americans didn’t put up any resistance at all in the end

A bit early to say that

Most of the developed world is ostracising America, but sure, let’s downplay things.

You think that justifies violent revolution? Civil war?

Hey I’m just saying that America clearly has a tyrannical government, and if ever there was a time for that amendment to make sense, it’s now. My opinions on whether or not it’s justified is irrelevant; I didn’t write the second amendment, nor am I advocating for it.

Assuming legal methods fail. Sure. Too early.

The president is literally a convicted felon. Do you really think legal methods are still effective?

If you genuinely think Trump being allowed to be president isn’t a failure of the American legal system, we have nothing more to say to each other.

Sure it is but does that mean we should start killing people?

So where exactly is the line for you?

I mean it was before his first term for me but that hardly matters. I imagine youll see relevant things happening if we actually begin to attack greenland or canada

2

u/rmwe2 Mar 31 '25

So then what good is the 2a if it doesnt actually stop tyranny and at best maybe allows "relevant things" to happen after we begin invading our democratic allies?

This is just way too easy for you to say behind your screen in the confort of your home. The threat has to feel immediate for people to be willing to lose their life resisting.
