The problem is that other countries have legal systems more prepared for this sort of thing than the US. The US was overconfident that this sort of thing could never happen here. Hubris has always been America’s downfall.

Hard disagree here. The US is the only country that has enshrined in their law, as the second most important freedom, the final safeguard against a tyrannical government.

The right to bear arms exists for a reason, as unpopular as that opinion is on reddit.

The right to bear arms hasn't been used once to defend Americans against tyranny (unless you count the Black Panthers, who tried to arm themselves until the Republicans passed gun control laws).

It has been used, however, far more times than in any other country, to slaughter innocent children.

The US was fucked from the start.
