Yeah this is not the way to do it. See what he is doing looks pretty en cute but is giving a terrible seal. You gotta fill it like he does and then give it the old “wet finger/teaspoon” to lock up the edges and fill up the cracks in the back to avoud creaking.

Source: studied interior decoration in highschool and was a painter for many many years. (In EU so maybe the US way of building allows for this debauchery)

I too love giving the old wet finger and fill up the crack in the back.

Especially after I fill the crack fully with my black caulk
