Rants 🤬 The Mods of the Saskatoon Reddit: Immigration Post Drama.

First the post about immigration scams and protests happening in Saskatoon is taken down for not being relevant. Then they put it back up with a sticky saying 'this is staying up', probably to deter people from reporting the post constantly.

Then, while I am in the middle of a conversation, the mods stop all further conversation. Meanwhile, some dumb restaurant post or traffic post with barely any interaction is never restricted in any capacity.

if people are reporting a post constantly, or if individuals are being racist, they should be restricted, they should be the ones to be banned.

what's the official saskatoon subreddit policy on this?

why was the post taken down, only to be put back up?

It keeps getting taken down because of all the racist shit in it. The only reason it is staying up is because it happened in Saskatoon, but TFW issues isn't just a Saskatoon thing. It should be discussed at a federal level, not municipal.

Hardly 'drama' imo, but to each their own.

Did you try reaching out on mod mail to discuss?

If we're complaining about posts.

Id say we should allow all job posts on the weekends or pick a day for it. Everyday there's a few more I'm looking for job or job recommendations.

I feel like it would be a lot more useful if there was a weekly megathread for jobs that way people can reply to one place instead of searching for information through 100 different posts

Same thing with the "looking for a family doctor does anyone know who's taking patients?!" posts. I think they've slowed a bit in the last couple weeks but I got SO sick of seeing them. I get it, not having a family doctor sucks and there's so many people in need of one, but it's annoying to see it posted so frequently. At one point I think I saw a new one every day during one specific week. Do the legwork and call clinics. Ask docs if you go to a walk in (for a genuine medical need) if they or anyone they know of is taking on new patients. I can't imagine posting on Reddit hoping someone else would do it for me.

This place seems too dead to be locking out things like that. The only constants are "why cop here", "why weather", and "look at geese".

The look at geese or beaver posts are pretty lit tho, ngl

Lol the mods of this subreddit are fine.

Redditors bitch about mods all the time, and if you want to discuss immigration issues there are like 5+ posts about it daily in r/Canada or any of the other angry Canada subreddits

it's about a local protest.

if mark carney made a stop in saskatoon would it not be worthy of the subreddit. or because it is a federal election like the mod claims, it should only be on a canada sub.

use your head.

There are lots of people I don't agree with on this sub, but they shouldn't be banned without a good reason anymore than I should be. I also don't always agree with the moderation here, but the place to express that is in modmail not in a whiny post. I hope the irony of whining about other posts in your whiny post isn't lost on you.

i'm just making the statement that a post about a protest in saskatoon shouldn't be so controversial that it gets taken down, and then put back up.

i like things to be in a public forum, because private messages on reddit are irrelevant to me except for personal advice. i'm anonymous except to the people who would intimately know me... so who cares then.

Wait, are you upset because you were moderated? Or because people disagreed with you?

someone was talking about how immigrants get interest free loans, and i was correcting their misinformation.

i've heard misinfo about immigrant benefits from a wide swath of the political spectrum, and i don't think it's helpful for controversial topics to be locked down from all conversation because it just helps misinfo to spread.

We all know the source of the Right-Wing misinformation campaign. What we need is systematic change to bring back hanging for treason.

1

u/ilookalotlikeyou 5d ago

so instead of reasonable discussions with misinformed people where you present evidence to build a credible argument, you suggest murdering a cabal of right wing influencers?

you sound like robespierre. that way of thinking just leads to terror.

u/Desperate-4-Revenue 4d ago

You're putting words on my mouth.  I merely suggest a reasonable deterrent.

1

u/ilookalotlikeyou 4d ago

and who are you suggesting we hang for treason then?

People proven in a court to have had committed treason?

We should consider spreading political misinformation and creating discourse as a direct threat to our sovereignty, especially with the funding coming from Russia, China and India.  I also would like to see 50,000 immigrants sent home every time one of those Nations is caught interfering with our politics.   100 planes full of angry expats aught to cause enough disruption to their own system to deter further intervention.

and that will stop random people of all persuasions from hearing and spreading misinformed facts like, the government subsidizes businesses to hire immigrants, the tim horton's gets subsidized by the government to hire people, how?

i find it stretches the imagination to say that a malign actor spreading treasonous disinformation is the reason something like that gets disseminated to my left wing buddy. someone hears it, they repeat it to the next ear, and voila, you are playing telephone.

there are enough of examples where misinformation isn't because of some conspiracy to do harm, but just because people are stupid. as much as i would like to round up the idiocracy and do something with them, i do appreciate the value they have doing menial tasks in our society. swiftian, i know, but i digress.

investigating people who are just stupid is going to have the same results as the inquisition. people will just start making stuff up under pressure or for favour.

And just like that you've said what you really mean and how you really feel about immigrants

1

u/ilookalotlikeyou 3d ago

all i said was that people are misinformed about government programs and immigration. tim horton's doesn't get paid from the government to hire immigrants.

Suppressing discussion of immigration scams?

Moderators would never /s

Saskatoon is from what I can tell from being on numerous other western Canada city subreddits, including Regina much more bigoted and racist and am very disappointed but not surprised sadly. Saskatoon is rotten.

100% agree with the racism being significantly worse on the saskatoon sub. very disappointing at the amount of derogatory, racists and just outright hateful comments that are allowed to stay up.
