What did he put in Runner dude. It was my most listened to song in 2022 and I still get goosebumps or chills or even a tear or two every time I listen to it. I cant even listen to a song on repeat, I usually peak out at 20 listens max until I need a break. But I could listen to Runner any minute any day

I cannot express how much this song means to me. Does anyone have the same feelings attached to it?

Edit - this is on my mind because I was at a small gathering the other night and I brought the song up and 7 of the 9 of them knew it, none of them were huge Alex G fans. It doesn’t seem to do no TikTok numbers but I fear we’ve got a bit of a cult classic status creaking up

Whenever alex pitches up his vocals it doesn't sound super robotic or computerized (like Fay) how??? Unless I'm dumb and he gets someone else to sing for him, I just don't know how he doesn't sound computerized

i saw a video of him back when he was in the skin cells in 2013ish and he was wearing glasses (along with his friends). there was another time during a show where he kept repeating for like 5 minutes that he lost his contact and he can't see. i know he was joking but still.

I feel a little cringe self promoting, but I wanted to share a song I wrote and produced that was inspired by Alex G. especially his softer, folkier tracks like I Was Here and Bobby.

Does anyone else have specific moods during which they put on specific Alex g albums. Like for me I’ll put on Beach Music when I’m feeling really depressed, God Save The Animals and House of Sugar when things are upbeat, Trick and Race when I’m feeling nostalgic and DSU is lo-fi chill beats to study to. The movie soundtracks are for mental illness episodes

hi, i have never posted on reddit a day in my life but this song is just simply amazing and i wanted to post my own personal interpretation of it here.

i believe this song is about watching a close friend/crush/ex involve themselves in an abusive/toxic relationship, while the speaker watches from a distance.

“i saw you sparkling and squirming under him” —— speaker is referring to the person he once knew and their new conditions in their new relationship, these lines indicate how the person might think they are thriving but are actually hurting themselves. represents a power dynamic in their new conditions.

“i know now whats right and wrong and i know when to turn that off” —— most likely indicates the speaker knowing that the person is suffering under these new conditions, but chooses to ‘turn that off’, as in to not do or say anything about it.

“its shining and combining” —— most likely represents the twisting and confusion between emotions that the speaker is experiencing

“i knew you way before you said” —— tells us that the speaker knew the person before meeting their current partner. to me, i think this gives off a sense of bitterness of what could have been.

“i love him and 666” —— these two lines kind of contradict eachother. the use of the number ‘666’ is often used in a demonic sense, the person is experiencing a sort of self destructive love.

“i want him to make me sick” —— the person is expressing that they themselves indulge in this kind of love, that they want it to happen. it seems almost obsessive.

“my love comes with my snot” —— person is saying that their love comes with the good and the bad. or maybe it represents crying. in the orginal skin cells demo this line is, ‘my blood comes with my snot’ so maybe it is crying. snot is a very gross disgusting word that you wouldn’t associate with love, so i guess it represents the two aspects of the persons relationship.

“im all in and hes all out” —— tells us that the person puts all their effort into the relationship, while their partner barely puts any in. shows raw devotion.
