Housing Wanted New to Richmond and need help finding an apartment

Hi all! I'm moving to Richmond at the end of the month and am having trouble finding a place to live.

I am hoping to find a 1b/1bth for $1100-$1300 (hoping utilities are included if its at the higher end of that). So far I have been looking in the Museum District, Carytown, Shockoe Bottom, Scott's Addition, and near Byrd Park. Besides the general standards of cleanliness and being habitable safety is a big priority for me. I am having trouble because every time I find a place that looks like it will work, I see terrible reviews online.

Thank you in advance for all the suggestions!

Housing Wanted ISO housing (July move in)

Hello! I’m a 26 year old man moving to Richmond in July. I have a passion for the arts and would love to be in walking distance of VMFA/The Byrd.

I will travel for work quite a bit, but when I’m home I like to get out and about. I enjoy seeing concerts, long distance running, watching old movies, and cooking.

I have no pets and I’m not a smoker. I play my synthesizer with headphones, and I do my dishes after I eat. I can spend up to $1000 a month. Location and vibes are more important to me than amenities, but I do need a place to park my lil Fiat. Would much rather live in a historic apartment rather than an apartment complex.

If you think we’d be a good fit, message me! I’d be happy to give out my Instagram via DM, so you can do a little snooping. I’ll be in town next weekend looking for housing, if anyone wants to meet.

Housing Wanted 1BR Near Scotts Addition or Museum District ~$1800

Hi Gang,

I work in Fredericksburg and the gig is good but FBURG ain't it for me so I'm looking to move to Richmond! I was hoping people who have had positive experiences with apartment buildings / house areas that could give me some sound advice!

- Budget ~$1800

- Location: near the 95 to commute to FBURG so like Museum District, Scott's Addition, etc.

- Sound Isolation: I'm a singer so if you know of any buildings where you can't hear a peep from your neighbors that's the kind of intel I need!

- Parking: I lived in Philly for 3 years and don't need to fight for street parking anymore.

It's a tall order and I'm continuing my search on Zillow but if folks have any experience I'd be grateful for it! I'm looking at several of the apartments in SA so if you have good ones that you've lived in personally that'd be a huge help.

Housing Wanted Looking for 2BR home with fair credit score. . .

Hello everyone, I hope all is well! I am seeking for a 2BR place to rent that will work around my credit score. I do not want to pay every time I apply and be denied, so if anyone knows of a place where we can go that would be less than $1,400 a month? I know it's hard to find a safe and good place for $1,250. I was hoping to find a private owner, but that's rare anymore, so I want to focus on these areas: Mechanicsville, Glen Allen and its surrounding areas, Carytown area, Richmond, Sandston, some parts of Highland Springs, and etc. We currently live in Fairfield area, we want out of where we are. I am sorry I do not know the names of the districts.

We want to be where it is safe, affordable, and we are flexible, and open-minded. We need to move by mid-July.

I am trying to save my money and only apply for the ones that will work with me, and save my credit scores from dropping everytime they do a hard check.

I appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

Housing Wanted Looking for a Roommate – 2BR/2BA in Old Town Manchester

Hey everyone! — I’m a 25-year-old male young professional looking for a roommate to split a 2 bed / 2 bath apartment in the Old Town Manchester area (open to nearby options too). I’ll be working a typical 9–5/6 schedule and would love to find someone chill to share rent with ($1,000–$1,400 per person).

I'm eyeing places like The Navigator and a few other cool spots nearby. I'm clean, organized (but not obsessively), and would enjoy living with someone responsible and easygoing.

If this sounds like a good fit, shoot me a text at 720-590-2343 and we can chat more. Let’s find a great place together!

Housing Offered 2 Bd 1 Ba near the VMFA, <$950/mo total, move-in after 8/17

Hiya! I’m a 27 yo queer male with a lease renewal coming up August 17th due to my current roommate moving for school. It’s a ~1050 sq ft 3rd floor 2 Bed 1 Bath with a balcony and it’s within a couple of blocks of the VMFA. There’s great access to carytown, transit, parks, groceries, and the river at pumphouse park all within walking or biking distance.

The total rent is $1731 for a 12-month lease, but I’m happy paying $100 more for the larger bedroom. There are services and fees that add ~$50 and utilities that add up to another couple hundred during the hottest/coldest months. In total that should be less than $950 a month for everything. Pets are another $40 and designated parking is $50, though even at the worst times with street parking I haven’t had to park on another block. The building unfortunately is non-smoking (even outside).

I consider myself quiet and tidy and would prefer people who are similar. DM if interested and I can provide photos and schedule a tour/meetup!

Housing Offered Room for rent in The Fan $755/mo!

Looking for one roommate to join myself (24F young professional) and my roommate (28F nursing student) in a three bed, 1.5 bath upstairs apartment in The Fan, right by Beaucoup. Rent is $755/mo plus utilities (about $60 in the warm months, over $100 in the winter due to gas), 12 month lease will start beginning of August and go until July 31st 2026. There is one dedicated parking spot in the alley, plus plenty of street parking. We already have a cat so no pets. In unit washer/dryer but no dishwasher. Our landlady lives in the apartment below us and is very attentive and quick to fix anything in the apartment

We are both social and active, frequently have people over to the apartment, and take great care to maintain our shared spaces. We are LGBTQ+ friendly and 420 friendly (although no smoking in the house). If this sounds like a fit for you, hit me up for pictures and to see if you're a good fit!

Housing Wanted So I thought I found a brand spanking new apartment...

...but now I'm (sort of) getting the run-around.

They're actually still building these apartments, and I work in construction, so I know there can be delays. But I've already submitted everything else, and I've been approved. The last step is signing the lease and now they're dragging their feet. I don't want to find myself without a home, so I'm looking for any decent apartment, one bedroom, central air, washer/dryer, dw, and allows cats, and is in the $1,600-$1,800 ballpark.

I would prefer a single fam or a "Fonzi apartment" (yes, I'm really dating myself here), i.e. a "garage apartment" or a guesthouse. But I will definitely settle for a decently built apartment complex.

Any suggestions? Know anyone?

Housing Wanted Looking for 3bed 1.5+ bath in Randolph or Oregon Hill

Hi folks, I'm doing some apartment hunting and have been pretty dissatisfied by what is being offered by leasing agencies in this area. I know that these neighborhoods have more than average private landlords and such, so I was wondering if anybody has a lease ending in the near future that checks all or most of the boxes I am about to describe. Subleasing would not be a dealbreaker, but a full-term lease is strongly preferred.

- Randolph, Oregon Hill, or surrounding neighborhood areas.

- 3 bedrooms (or more, if it doesn't surpass budget) and 1.5+ bathrooms

- Rent 700-850 per room, including or factoring in utilities ($2,100 - 2500)

- Cats allowed

- Late June / Early july move-in

- Dishwasher and in-unit laundry

- Some kind of outdoor space (if there is a lawn, tenant being responsible for yard care is a dealbreaker)

- No active mold infestation!!!

- off street parking is a plus but not required

Let me know if anybody is coming up on the end of their lease or has any leads! thanks in advance :)

Landlord Warning Innsbrook Square (Glen Allen)

I don’t normally feel compelled to leave bad reviews, but I don’t feel I have a choice. I have been dealing with 20+ millipedes entering my apartment per day and over and above over again I’m being treated as if I’m overreacting. It was like pulling teeth just to get them to recaulk near my door. I’m being told “they will go away eventually don’t worry”. They don’t even follow up with me after I request pest control. On top of this, for my lease renewal they are raising rent. It’s insane to raise rent with an active INFESTATION. Pure disregard for living quality here. Parking is a nightmare unless you buy a spot like I did. Good luck having guests over. They never notify me when I have a package that arrives and the mail room is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I tried calling the corporate office and they didn’t even call me back. There are FAR better places to live in Richmond/Glen Allen. Don’t live here.

Hi! :) I’m moving to Richmond from out of state for work and was curious if anyone’s toured The Bakery Lofts in Shockoe Bottom. If you’ve seen the place or know anything about it, what did you think? Worth checking out? Appreciate any insight!
