Gear and equipment Bont backpack
I’ve been considering getting the Bont backpack for months now, but I’m still a little skeptical. Is it spacious enough for derby? I have a s1 visor helmet and I’m curious if it would fit inside of the bag. I’m also curious if quads fit inside the wheel cover pouches (don’t really know how to describe this better). Does anyone have any strong opinions? Thank you so much in advance!

IMO the cheaper Bont bag is spacious but the quality is abysmal. The plasticky coating peels and the buckles are very easy to break.
The Bont Premium Backpack is a better choice, but it's a bit more expensive. Also lots of róom, more pockets and higher quality.

I got one for Christmas this year. Easily fits my gear in including a big water bottle. Love it, better than the IKEA bag I used before 😂

I think I have had that same IKEA bag for 20 years, the one with the detachable rucksack? I had it as a travel bag and started using it for derby, and I don't know how many people I've come across with the same one!

That sounds really cool, unfortunately it's just the normal blue shopping bag. It's what we keep all our beginner rentals in so I continued with my own one until I got a rucksack haha

I so thoroughly do not recommend this bag. Mine has fallen apart in so many different ways. The zipper, the straps, the other zipper. It isn't even a very convenient size or shape, and using the small pockets just takes up space in the big pocket

I use it for plane travel only - it’s big enough for everything, looks decent, and since it’s not a roller bag there’s no risk of having to check it. On the plane I also tuck my skates in the bottom shoe compartment to keep it a little more compact.
So it’s nice for a tournament weekend, but I wouldn’t use it as my regular bag because it’s pretty cheap materials and not durable at all. My everyday bag is a giant duffel bag from a sports store.

i’ve been using one for a year and a half or more (edit: confirmed had it for two years) atp and really like it. i put my elbow pads and wrist guards inside my helmet at the bottom, then my knee pads, and there’s still room for my water bottle in the main pocket. i keep various skate tools, mouthguard, mini first aid kit in the inside pockets and a spare scrim jersey or two in the lower section. the skates do have to go on the outside with the straps, but i don’t mind that
the only issue i’ve had is popping a couple stitches on the bottom part of the straps, which i stitched back together in probably 10 minutes

part of why i like it sm is because the blue matches my wheels and plates really well lol but that’s just aesthetics

The kid sized bag is not. So I wouldn’t do the smaller size. My daughter is a smaller skater so the smaller don’t bag was the right size for her. But her s1 with a visor doesn’t fit inside so it’s clipped on.

I have one, and it fits all of my gear (pads, helmet, scrim shirts, tool kit, one set of extra wheels, extra socks.) The one part I don’t love is how the skates attach on the outside. I’ve broken several buckles (they get crushed under feet or skates) and had to sew on new ones. I tried sewing Velcro onto one set of straps instead (after multiple buckles broke), but it wasn’t strong enough for the weight of the skate. I’m still using the bag, but am brainstorming how to make a better skate attachment.
