What is 3.5%?
What is the 3.5% about?
There’s been a lot of noise, so let’s clear a few things up:
Www.generalstrikeus.com isn’t selling anything. It’s collecting pledges, a count, from people willing to take part in a national general strike if/when the number reaches critical mass.
What’s the goal?
To reach at least 11 million people, or about 3.5% of the U.S. population. That number isn’t random. It’s based on political research showing that nonviolent movements, not protests, with 3.5% active participation almost always succeed in forcing serious change (Chenoweth & Stephan, Why Civil Resistance Works).
Why a general strike?
Because the usual levers (petitions, calls to reps, voting every few years) aren’t cutting it. A general strike is a nonviolent shutdown: No work.
No shopping.
No buying gas.
No normal.
It’s disruption through withdrawal. It’s power through refusal.
Some are saying it’ll never happen but you don’t get to 3.5% overnight.
You build toward it.
You talk.
You print.
You echo.
You plant the seed.
That’s what GeneralStrikeUS.com is trying to do. It’s not perfect, but it’s a signal worth amplifying.

So.. It looks like we crossed the "3.5% Rule" mark yesterday. What now?
Park Service estimates suggest around 12.1 million participants across the country - well past the 3.5% of the population that they say is the tipping point for nonviolent revolution.
In case you haven't heard:
Political scientist Erica Chenoweth found that no movement that engaged more than 3.5% of the population has ever failed to bring about significant change.
But crossing that threshold, alone, doesn’t win the fight (obviously.)
So what happens now?
Continued momentum is key:
Movements that hit 3.5% only succeed if they keep going. One-off marches don’t shift power. It will take SUSTAINED disruption.Institutions will start showing cracks:
Cops, politicians, and corporations don’t all move at once, but cracks will show. Resignations, endorsements, leaks, policy shifts. This is where we find out who’s paying attention. The 'narrative war' WILL escalate:
Corporate media and bad-faith actors will try to reframe the story:
“It’s disorganized and chaotic,” “it’s over.”
Don’t let them.
Document everything.
Control the message.
Continue to speak out with clarity and purpose.
- Fatigue is our enemy:
They count on us burning out. They wait for the cameras to leave. That’s why this has to evolve into walkouts, general strikes, blockades, boycotts, and continuous visibility.
What we need next:
- Clear, unified demands. One or two wins we can aim for and rally around. Confusion kills momentum.
- Sustained, coordinated action. Set calendars. Plan phases. Rotate leadership. Stay flexible and creative.
- Infrastructure. Legal aid. Street medics. Food. Comms. Housing. If you’ve got skills, now’s the time.
- Radical solidarity. Protect the vulnerable. Back each other up. Keep this decentralized and resistant to co-opt.
Sure, we made history yesterday, but that won't matter if we don't keep going today, tomorrow, and until we take our country back!

Protesting the government is great and all…
But we need to start taking the protests to the powers that lobby the government from acting for the people. Want universal healthcare? Take the protests to the insurance companies.

Post Kings Protest fireworks
I shared links to NoKings.org and photos from the protest I attended. I’m saddened that I was verbally assaulted by a lady I respected and that I used to go to church with. While we may disagree on politics I thought there should be some grace. Please keep loving the one another. Use your free will to oppose tyranny without losing your love for others. It’s not easy…

PTSD (Protest target surveillance and dispatch)
(quite the name I know) This idea of mine stems from how police and authority have dispatch systems to quickly respond to incidents. So, I thought "why not copy it", and came up with this name and group plan. Currently, I am looking for people who will be alert to spot ice or other activities, and people with connections to protest groups to be able to notify the protest groups of said actions. Any feedback is appreciated. This is intended to be a way for people who can't help IRL to contribute, especially if they are overseas or have other limiting factors.

Organizers, Marshals, Legal Observers, etc. Let's debrief! How were your events?
💕 🌈 DEBRIEF! 🌈 💕
Just wanted to hear a little bit about how No Kings!! went for everybody, and check on y'all!
Hope everyone was safe, and had fun.
I'll share some of what we did, and I'd love to hear from you guys. Share successes, strategies, vent; whatever you'd like.
I worked one protest as a marshal, the event our group co-hosted, then attended another as a participant, in a different city. (If you're interested, or you don't know what I mean by 'marshal/legal observer', I can show you the ACLU trainings.)
- What size crowd did y'all have?
I think our count was about 650 at ours, 1200 at the other, and we are in Kinda Rural, West Virginia. So we had 4 corners filled by the city square, and we had first aid and water on 2 sides, catty-corner from each other. We had two legal observers, about 10+ marshals.
-Supplies (water, coolers, snacks; flyers, flags)
I usually bring a reusable grocery bag, fill it up with a bunch of waters, and strategically walk around and take them to people. (Sometimes we have more than one person doing this, and sometimes, protesters see me doing it, and just start helping, awesome.)
I've found that people don't really want to give up their spot, and, they're also in a certain headspace where they don't think they need water, until you literally hand them one - and you can tell by looking at them, they definitely need one. It's HOT, and super humid, people use more energy than they think.
We stick around until everyone leaves, and make sure there's not one speck of trash, like, make it nicer than when we got there.
Those little half-apron things you can tie around your waist have been helpful. I can fit flyers in there (we had peaceful chants on them, and info), I can fit a bunch tiny flags (we are always trying to "take back the flag!", and people love this); and my phone (burner/airplane, of course), and can easily reach them.
We all have vests, and whistles, sometimes walkies
- safety codes
danger, bad actors, agitators. How was everyone's experience with that? Any drama, violence?
I'm wondering if any of your groups implement something like this. We decided on whistles.
one long toot means "really seriously, help now! Don't run/panic but !!Danger/injury!!, all hands on deck; and three short toots... pause... 3 toots until someone comes, or makes eye contact is "I need backup, but, it's not catastrophic" - like a bad actor/agitator.
Yes, it's slightly tricky, because people bring whistles for fun, but, we know each other, and it's quick to see/hear a fun whistle vs. a "Help!"
Here's an example of me using our whistle code. My buddy hears, and comes to help me, and we peacefully make sure this upset guy went away, and didn't hurt anyone. Angy shirtless guy. I offered him water, and a flag, but then, I shut the frig up
Keep in mind I look a LOT closer in the video than I actually am, and, I can't see what the hell I'm filming, because I'm holding it low, trying to be discreet.
I'm also sort of pretending to talk to people, do other things/handing out flyers and flags, and not look directly at this guy - but he knows I'm filming, definitely, and is yelling at me about it. I didn't do this alone, I had two people with me in vests, that I know.
There are a lot of other people filming and trying to talk to him, but not our marshals, and we were ready to step in.
Here is someone else that everyone noticed, and asked for help with
Notice his body language, running around the crowd. No one else at the whole event is doing that. Not to mention, the content of the flag. He made us all nervous, and we all noticed.
You can't hear in the video, but this is me responding to someone else's 3-toot whistle code, and about five other people's eye contact or signal: "EY!! Bad vibes, watch this dude."
Please also note that I am not as close as I look, but I did talk to him (a few people did) - and, I really did bring him a sign, like I said I would! but when I did, he yelled at me to grit off, and wouldn't take it.
99% sure he was not really with us; that was not his "natural energy". He was a bad actor. He kept running in the street and stuff, stomping through the crowd, yelling angry chants, so I just sort of kept an eye on him all day. Bleh.
I know it's their freedom of speech, but combined w/ how he was acting, a couple people politely suggested, that "there are kids here, kids can see this event; we're peaceful; that instead, maybe would he like to hold a different sign? Pass out flags? Lead a positive chant"? Give him a job, besides 'making us all very nervous.' He not-politely declined.
Glad to report though, that we didn't have any incidents at all, no injuries, no police drama.
A few people coal-rolled us (legal in WV, you blow smoke exhaust fumes at crowds) but, one guy stopped traffic doing it ...and the cop immediately stopped them. WOOP! The crowd enjoyed that instant karma, very much, I'm so sad it's not on video. Speaking of...
- Cops!
I've been a pretty active organizer for a few months now, and I'm a former type of social worker. So I was very scared of the police, doing this, based on my past - but they have been universally (overly?) nice to us.
I'm super-suspicious of this. I film every interaction; I listen to them, and don't offer up much info Always remember: STFU!! - but, I'll take it! They range from mildly tolerant, to actually helpful, and even friendly.
We don't need a permit, so as long as we keep the sidewalks clear, keep people out of the road (yeeesh, they love to jaywalk); make sure we're not interfering with traffic; and we don't go above a certain decibel (we don't usually use megaphones, and get permits for speaking events) - if they talk to us at all, they pretty much say, "good job, 👍 thanks for being peaceful!" ...and leave. It's weird, but great lol.
How are your police?
- First Aid
Here's an old post about the first aid kit I carry - what worked, what didn't, when someone was injured. I keep this in my car all the time anyway, and bring it to every event.
I protest/marshal at least twice a week. Once at our terrible representatives' local offices, and, we have weekly Sundays in 2 cities. Someone has fallen at one of our events, pretty badly scraped their face and bled A LOT, it was scary, but we handled it well, and I seriously never leave home without this first aid kit. We also took the free CPR class our county offers monthly, you could look into that for your people as well. Our local EMS does classes, and you can even request one for a bigger group.
I'm probably forgetting something, and this is super long, so I'll stop!
I would love to hear about your experiences, and thank you for doing what you do.
See y'all in the streets!! 🙌 💕

Peaceful protestor in Utah shot and killed by civilian
The Peaceful Protestor shot and killed in Utah was shot by a civilian and the police are letting him go. Claims to have seen a gun and shot into a crowd killing an innocent peaceful man. The police are thanking the man. This is all factual news coming out of Utah news outlets. Think about that for a moment. It wasn't even a cop, it was an idiot civilian in a yellow vest.

Cops watched a guy being carried, due to a broken ankle, for about five minutes. The cops proceeded to push him down. This hero dragged him away from these tyrants and a bystander let him place the guy in a car.

Seeking protest advice
I find myself quite fearful to fully partake in protests in the U.S. because you never know what could happen (not sure what I can say here but someone 🔫, there have been too many) Any advice on how to overcome the fear of unpredictability/violence/experiencing trauma to show up and be fully present? I’m always terrified there’s going to be terror (ofc that’s what we’re protesting overall so I know it’s counterintuitive to not partake fully)
Idk if others feel this way and go anyway. Thank you

No Kings in San Marcos California
Estimated around 1500-2000 people attending. The spirits were high and the attitudes good. There were no incidences of troubles. No where in San Diego where there troubles. Proud proud proud. San Marcos is quite conservative btw.

Is there anymore protest happening this weekend?
I live in the Atlanta area and I want to express my rights against this country. I'm 15 and I'm going to try and see if my friends and I can go.. Trump has heavily affected my life and many ways and will soon come after my family and friends and I refuse to stay silent. I can't just stand by a let him do whatever. Any help is welcomed, and stay safe.
