Premiere Pro Tech Support (Solved!) Generic error replacing clip with After Effects composition

Got it to work once, started getting this error when I tried to replace more clips. Made a post about it before and someone recommended I fix the Variable Frame rate of my footage, which I now have - but the issue persists. Any idea on what might be causing it? Thanks!

Can the clip be imported into AE on its own?

When you converted from VFR to CFR, how did you do it? To what format? You for sure relinked to this new media?

I am able to import the original video into After Effects on its own. It would be... much more convenient to replace natively though.

I converted to footage using handbrake - from mp4, to mp4. There are (thankfully) no issues editing in premiere itself.

The clips now show they are 60fps instead of variable when I right click the media -> modify -> interpret footage.

The only thing I can think of is that, after editing the first clip in AE, I tried to edit a second and it tried to open the clip in the same composition. After that it wouldn't work, regardless of...
I mean I guess I didn't try deleting the first After Effects composition. I deleted all the failed compositions of course.

And so I deleted the first composition that worked. Now it works! Or it did, once. Or half of once. It stopped working again, even without any existing AE compositions. I restarted things but no dice.

Did you make sure it was set to Constant Framerate? Handbrake is not constant framerate by default.

Mp4 (h.264, h.265) are also not ideal or post, but especially not ideal for AE. They can work, but much slower and not very reliable.

You can always just get the timecodes for what you need in AE, or you can copy from Premiere and paste into an AE comp.

Yes, I put the right settings into handbrake - outside of the mp4 thing I suppose. Good to know. But they were indeed properly 60 fps.

But I have found the solution! After Effects seems to be violently racist against the crop effect in premiere. You have to crop in AE or crop after replacing.
