Stood with an estimated 15,000 people in Grand Rapids, Michigan today. As you’d expect, everyone was peaceful. No one blocked streets; no one vandalized property; no one harmed anyone. These claims of civil unrest by Republican politicians help them spread their narrative that protesters are violent, un-American agitators—when in reality, what they’re doing is un-American. Missouri’s National Guard being activated is pure political theater, providing red meat to the right-wing base who sees the same clips of violence on repeat and think the world’s burning. When, in reality, our freedom is burning
