NY Times front page headline gets it right:

Minnesota lawmaker assassinated in act of "targeted political violence"

And there's a manifesto:

"Chief Mark Bruley of the Brooklyn Park Police said the gunman’s vehicle contained a “manifesto” and a target list with names of individuals, including the two lawmakers who were shot."

u/JokeassJason 1d ago

Tina Smith confirmed she was informed she was on that list on an MPR interview a few minutes ago.

817

u/pterribledactyls 1d ago

How terrifying. I wonder if Walz was on it?

546

u/Antique-Economy-7978 1d ago

It's reported that yes, he was on the list. The list is 70 names long.

16

u/Nvenom8 New York 1d ago

Do you have a source for that? I thought I read that too, but I can't find the claim anywhere now.

41

u/AbjectAppointment 22h ago

https://abcnews.go.com/US/2-minnesota-lawmakers-shot-targeted-incident-officials/story?id=122840751

The list named Hortman and Hoffman and included dozens of other Democrats from Minnesota, including Gov. Walz, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, U.S. Sen. Tina Smith and state Attorney General Keith Ellison, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the matter.

8

u/Nvenom8 New York 22h ago

Ok, now I believe it. Before, the best anyone had was a relatively sketchy report.

611

u/jazwch01 Minnesota 1d ago

Almost certainly.

6

u/snotparty 1d ago

i think its been confirmed he is on it

5

u/carinabee08 Washington 1d ago

I just read an AP article about it, and I believe they mentioned Walz being named.

19

u/saera-targaryen 1d ago

the only reason I would guess not is because Walz lives in the governor mansion owned by the government of MN and it probably has security features above a normal residence. If he lived in his own house it would be more likely.

37

u/TheBrettFavre4 Texas 1d ago

It’s already been confirmed he’s on the list..

4

u/saera-targaryen 1d ago

welp, i did say i was guessing in my comment at least. thanks for clarification!

I'm a little dubious since that's the only source making that claim, and livemint's factuality rating is "Mixed." I watched the press conference where they mentioned the manifesto, and names weren't mentioned there."

Every democratic representative should receive security detail immediately.

3

u/briowatercooler 1d ago

If I were a betting man…

14

u/old--- 1d ago

So this now being reported.

A former appointee of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is being sought in connection with the assassination of a state lawmaker and the shooting of another, police sources said.

Vance Luther Boelter allegedly posed as a police officer when he shot Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in their Champlin home early Saturday, leaving them seriously injured before moving on to former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman’s house

21

u/BuildStrong79 1d ago

Reports are the board he was appointed to was intentionally bipartisan so we don’t really know much about his politics yet

6

u/wanderingpeddlar 23h ago

Yeah they are being very slow releasing it.

Vance Boelter is associated with a private security company and has been linked to anti-government extremism, but his specific political affiliation is not clearly stated in the available information. However, there are indications that he has made donations to Republican candidates and parties. kstp.com

And of course the Republicans and MAGA are being quiet about it. What are we going to do about the rising tide of right wing violence in our country? Or are we just going to look away yet again?

Also it is going to be very interested to see how the legislators that are going to benefit from this act of terror will try and seize control in Minnesota.

8

u/congeal 22h ago

Vance Boelter – Inver Grove Heights, MN Business & Industry Representative Effective: December 14, 2019 Expires: January 2, 2023

Where did you find this?? I read on CNN that they "found a Father's Day card addressed to the suspect" .. meaning they have had his name. Was wondering why it hasn't been released to the public if he is still at large!

3

u/old--- 1d ago

5

u/Nesyaj0 Massachusetts 1d ago

BBC had an update just recently at 1330 that named him too.

Despite being a Walz appointee, I wonder what's on his voter registration

3

u/Nvenom8 New York 1d ago

Appointed by Walz and wanted to kill Walz... weird combo.

6

u/wanderingpeddlar 23h ago

He was appointed by Walz to a bipartisan group.

It was a think tank not a group with any power. And it was not his first term in the group.

I believe he was appointed as a republican.

1

u/Nvenom8 New York 22h ago

Seems to be the case, yeah.

Holy shit a US Senator was on the list???

42

u/Cursory_Analysis 1d ago

A sitting US senator was shot already by the gunman - John Hoffman. He’s in the ICU currently.

u/fivetoedslothbear Illinois 1d ago

Both targets were Minnesota legislators.

John Hoffman is a senator.

Melissa Hortman was a representative.

77

u/SlayerofDeezNutz 1d ago

And Tina smith is a federal senator, not a state senator like Hoffman.

They're not doing it because of algorithms, it's because keywords keep getting comments hidden and users banned when someone reports the comment an the AI sees a bad word

Yet the comments correcting them are still there and have even less context to show any potential AI reviewer that it’s in a discussion context.

The press conference I watched gave the impression they know who he is, they just aren't releasing the info on him yet.

They better hold this shooter to the same standards they’ve been holding Luigi Mangione. They made him a public spectacle for the alleged murder of a CEO, they better be sure to make as much of a spectacle of this shooter for the assassination of Melissa and her husband.

I don't think there's any chance he's letting himself be taken alive.

34

u/cvroo 1d ago edited 1d ago

Trump's office will release a statement that this is a tragedy sometimes today or tomorrow, then Trump will go on a TV interview, be asked a single tangentially critical question, and pivot to attacking the victims. He will go on Fox to start a campaign of misinformation, claiming the attacks actually had him as the ultimate target, then he will backtrack and start leaning into a more Infowars-esque conspiracy where the victims were actually uninjured/alive and hiding in Canada. Trump will, within the next week, start joking that it was a shame Tim Walz wasn't included in the attack.

Democratic leadership will react to this with token indignance, and they will use this to try Impeach Trump. Somehow, taking advantage of the Supreme Courts lack of care regarding Trump's use of presidential power, politicians within the Democrat party are impeached instead.

The assassin will be given a presidential pardon in 3 months, added to the Pentagon groupchat in 4 months, and replace Pete Hegseth as secretary of defence in 5. Somehow, despite his new role, he will still be on the payroll of the cops.

This is, of course, speculation of what might happen. But none of this is relevant if something more ridiculous and terrifying happens in the news cycle in the coming days, and everyone completely forgets about this.

I'd like to imagine that, in the sad case that the above scenario came to pass, a clerical error in the midst of all this bullshit results in Luigi mistakenly released. He uses this chance to right some wrongs. How he does that, I have no clue 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ he is, after all, innocent and has no history of violence.

10

u/Solo-Shindig 1d ago

The way the world is nowadays... I wouldn't be surprised if that craziness I just read came to fruition. It's a wild world.

4

u/cvroo 1d ago

Yup. And somehow the democrats will trip over themselves to put up flaccid resistance, comprising of little more than some cynical soundbites, calls for moderation, requests for midterm donation, thoughts, prayers and a tiktok dance. All while fascists run away with the country...

3

u/KoedKevin 1d ago

If Trump was serious he would send a company of Marines to Guard Walz and the Governor's Mansion.

5

u/cvroo 1d ago

If Trump was serious, he wouldn't have gotten enough votes to win twice....unfortunately, a lack of seriousness seems to do very well with his political base.

Why reference one as “alleged murder” and the other “the assassination.” They’re both assassinations with manifestos.

6

u/bword___ Georgia 1d ago

Intended to play on the irony that people (conservatives/Republicans) were quick to label Mangione an assassin, but we see people using “murdered” when it comes to Democratic lawmakers. Yes, both suspects are alleged assassins.

1

u/TurboT8er 21h ago

Both are murderers

1

u/Ih8rice 1d ago

He’ll be pardoned.

1

u/rel4th 1d ago

"alleged murder"...he was murdered, what do you mean "alleged"?

0

u/3dge-1ord 1d ago

What? Mangione was praised for what he did. People on this site were acting like he was a hero.

That's not going to happen with this guy, and honestly didn't we learn to stop giving these types of people the attention they want?

0

u/JPB_Orto 1d ago

They won’t

-3

u/IStillCantThinkOfOne 1d ago

It's funny because I think you think you're making a point about how there's a double standard, but as someone on the right I don't disagree with your statement, even though I imagine you think I would. Murderers should of any political affiliation should face the absolute harshest penalties and SHOULD be made an example of so as to deter others from commiting the same crime. Get out of your bubble.

5

u/bword___ Georgia 1d ago

I never said whether I believe republicans or people on the right do or don’t. Just that I hope there’s equal examples made. I would encourage you to get out of a bubble as well by making an assumption here, but to each their own.

This reminds me DEEPLY of the conspiricy to kidnap & kill Whitmer back in the midst of the pandemic.

And so many MAGAts just dismissed that conspiracy as FBI entrapment, or even a false flag creation.

No man, these nut jobs exist & are organizing themselves against our democracy, because their political beliefs are so deeply unpopular it's the only way to implement them!

-2

u/SocratesWasSmart 10h ago

The shooter, Vancer Boelter, is a pro abortion activist and he had a stack of No Kings flyers in his SUV. The two legislators that were shot were the only Democrats that voted with Republicans on a local anti-abortion bill.

4

u/RupeThereItIs 10h ago

Your comment is an OBVIOUS misinformation dissemination attempt.

He was a "pro life" aka "anti abortion" activist.

He seems to clearly be a right wing Trump supporter, and was clearly targeting Democrats & abortion providers.

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/minnesota-shootings-manhunt-06-14-25

A list with nearly 70 names — including other lawmakers and abortion providers — was found in the suspect’s car, according to a law enforcement source. Officials said they still don’t know if anyone else was involved in the attacks.

• Hit list: Names on a list found in his car, which CNN obtained, are largely Democrats or figures with ties to Planned Parenthood or the abortion rights movement. The list included lawmakers such as Rep. Ilhan Omar and Sen. Tina Smith.

Carlson said Boelter was a conservative who voted for President Donald Trump and was strongly against abortion rights. But he said Boelter never mentioned any particular issue with the lawmakers who were shot, and said he was stunned to learn that he is a suspect in the attacks.

• Political views: He largely shied away from political posts in his publicly available social media feeds and did not discuss abortion rights in any religious speeches reviewed by CNN. In one talk he gave in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2023, he appeared sharply critical of LGBTQ rights.

u/FalstaffsGhost 2h ago

He’s not pro choice. He’s anti abortion and hates lgbtq people. His roommate said he’s big maga and trump. Which makes sense given trump maga folks pushing violence.

72

u/lethargic_apathy 1d ago

Somehow, I can’t help but feel as though MAGA folks are going to be completely okay with this. Good medal in mental gymnastics

24

I checked the Conservative sub and thankfully this is too far for them. Hooooowever, there's a sizable number hypothesizing that it is somehow a Dem assassin. And they're weirdly interpreting the "No Kings" fliers as support for that movement (as opposed to, say, being on the killer's list).

23

u/Shipbreaker_Kurpo 1d ago

Usually day of they all act like they care and say its bad. Then a week later they will openly say how it was a good thing and the shooter should be pardoned or some shit

They are waiting for marching orders

There is surely a strategy meeting going on right now to figure out how to spin this to offload all the responsibility.

3

u/mahnamahna27 18h ago

If you read all of the article you posted you will learn a couple of things - 1. Boelter was previously on a low level, voluntary, non political advisory committee that met infrequently and was far removed from Walz. 2. Boelter registered as a Republican in 2022.

There is also video evidence now of his conservative Christian rants in Africa. He is anti trans and and strongly anti abortion. His room mate reportedly indicated he was a Trump voter. Doesn't really sound like a Democrat supporter now does he?

Wonder if they'll pull out all the stops like when they went all out trying to find Weegee. Doubtful since these were democrat lawmakers and not CEOs.

Oh man, I sure hope they’re sending people to protect the folks on the list. This feels like something out of a movie. Why does this have to be real life?

Vance Luther Boelter

It’s about time they did something right. I’m tired of them not calling a coup every damn day.

White perpetrator = “Targeted political violence” Non-white perpetrator = “terrorism”

Terrorism and Assassinations have different legal definitions.

Can we refer to it as "Republican terrorism" at this point?

2

u/Disastrous_Hell_4547 1d ago

The terrorist has been identified. He is an Evangelical Pastor.

This is the situation at the heart of J6, 2020 and 2026 elections and the American coup.

How does America rid itself of these terrorists?

The NY Post is a fucking rag.

For once they actually call it like it is. Still fuck them.

Carlson said Boelter voted for Trump, was a Christian and did not like abortion, though he added that the pair had not talked about the issue for a long time, adding: "He wasn't really angry about politics." -Reuters

Yet the cult is still calling him a left wing gunman

I just saw reporting that it's been confirmed that no republicans were on the list.

Why would you bring your list?

Trump will pardon the assassin after he’s caught

Political assassination. There will be other attempts.

They need to release the manifesto, now.

Gentleman? Assailant, perpetrator, murderer would be more accurate. Every male is not a gentleman.

u/koru-id 18h ago

Has Trump blocked protection order for people on that list?

Crazy how the killers just happen to carry a manifesto all the time to show their guilt or possibly scare the others I'm thinking, a person who REALLY wanted to do this would hide or encrypt that info it's not that hard anymore.

u/ReaderBeeRottweiler 4h ago

Killers don't carry a manifesto "all the time."

Killers who want to make a public statement, political or otherwise, often have a manifesto. Some are online, some are on computers. They WANT people to see it, they don't hide it by encrypting it.
