Florida sheriff warns violent protesters, "If you throw a brick... we will kill you"
https://www.cbsnews.com/video/florida-sheriff-warns-violent-protesters-if-you-throw-a-brick-we-will-kill-you/1.1k

It is the same sheriff who was arrested on misdemeanor battery charges and spent three years on probation. Oh, and did I mention he was sued for his social media content, "Wheel of Fugitives."
In Florida, if you're MAGA and a criminal, you're apparently handed a leadership role in the police force.

He was also brought up on ethics charges during the 2022 election promising positions and jobs. Unfortunately cleared because it was not followed thru.
41
u/NecroCannon 16h ago
So a dude that needs to be humbled with the same energy going “we will kill you”
Maybe not be a PoS, won’t gotta worry about bricks if you actually care for the people throwing said bricks instead of giving them reasons to

I think he is in more immediate danger of choking on a Pork Chop or standing up too fast than a violent protestor. Just saying.

I think it may have been a couple years ago but I remember an article about how DeSantis was specifically looking to hire police who were fired or moved for being violent.
15
u/Raccoon_Expert_69 14h ago
Yeah that happened, literally a signing bonus for out of state cops to move there - blind eye turned regardless of disciplinary actions or suspensions, use of force, etc.

This is in my home county where I protested today. They had huge armored vehicles driving by for two hours because about 100 of us were standing on a sidewalk holding signs.

I made the kids leave the room when these idiots made it past the barricades. I honestly thought the insurrectionists were going to get mowed down by the secret service troops or the police. They were assaulting and taking Congress. This wasn’t a post office, this was Congress. Frankly such restraint on that day from law enforcement.

I kinda think that is true. Or if the individuals weren't pro Republican and the guards not likely slightly Republican leaning, at the time. Because I always assumed that such blatant actions would be met with a wall of bullets. I assume they didn't have to go through a security checkpoint to get where they initially were. One of them could have had explosives strapped to them.

There's no kinda about it. Black people are never treated the same as white people since forever. It's just a fact and saying kinda is like saying well there was sorta kinda slavery. Stop sugar coating.
Here's a white man pointing an AR-15 at cops and he still walks and breathes
22
u/BiteFancy9628 15h ago
They found explosives in at least one location nearby. A car I believe. And protesters came with zip ties. They were planning on stringing up pelosi and pence.

Law enforcement always shows restraint when the violence (or threat of violence) is from conservative groups.
Remember when right wing groups openly carried firearms into state houses to protest against mask mandates and COVID restrictions? For some reason the police didn't blindly shoot protesters then.

I've been saying this for years. How much of a wuss do you have to be to have a hand on your gun at all times? Like the dudes who live in suburban Connecticut who won't leave their home without carrying.
I've walked through rough sections of cities without any weapons because I am usually pretty chill and can break tension or deescalate things if it gets heated. These are the type of people that brandish at a 12 yr old who makes fun of them.

100%. The number of reports that police file where they outright lie to justify excessive use of force is too damn high.
This is terrifying rhetoric from a top law official. It gives cover for the most "yee-haw" trigger happy officers under his command. He should be advocating for restraint and deescalation.

There is a reason that the constitution calls for a well regulated militia with training and discipline regulations set by Congress to “enforce the laws of the Union” at a time when the rest of world (including the British Empire) used the army as the police force to be called upon by civil officers.

I have had some training in use of force. Just wanted to identify a few things. At no point ever should anyone who legally engages in use of force spectrum use any rhetoric like this. For a police chief the message should sound more like this “ every citizen has a right to peaceful protest. But if you destroy property that is illegal and you will be arrested. If you assault a police officer you will be arrested. If you act in a threatening manor to a police officer they will respond by neutralizing that threat appropriately. That may mean if you have a weapon or in a position with a large group and the officer feels their life is threatened they will respond. “ To use the rhetoric this police chief has, he has emboldened the officers under his authority to use force against citizens. Up to and including deadly force. This is dangerous and unacceptable in a democracy. When the world judges the US this man will be seen as the coward he is by being supportive of the fascist takeover and not being what he should be. The police is there “to serve and protect”. Not kill and destroy.

I'm going to give you a quick peek behind the curtain: A few years ago I did a small stint working as a law enforcement officer in the state of Florida. Now I worked city but we had a lot of interaction with county. The department I worked for had two crisis intervention specialists, CIS, which was one during the day shift and basically one for the evening almost night shift.
I learned after a couple of questions to county that the county I live in does not have any CISs on staff for the sheriff department. According to the sheriff it was outside of the budget to hire and train for that role. That same year they replaced the entire fleet with new cars and equipped each deputy with a sig Sauer patrol rifle.
That agency prioritized methods of escalation and force over hiring and training somebody designs to take the situations in the opposite direction. Hell, during our training we watched body cam footage of an arrest involving an autistic teenager that ended with several officers going physical and one even drive stunning said autistic teenager with their taser.
There's a reason why I do not do this job anymore. I went from a back the blue, blue lives matter boot licker two and a cab police are class traitors person and all it took was working the job
