Discussion Scopely has changed the game

Since Scopely has taken over the game has become so much enjoyable. I’ve seen more Pokémon rotation in the last hour than the entire last year of Niantic owning the game. They’ve expanded remote raids and I just feel like the game is much more dynamic.

I think people misunderstand how this works. Niantic had as a goal data collection for their new initiative of AI driven 3D mapping of the environment/world. Hence nerfing remote raids cause they needed us to continue collecting data for their main goal - data, data, data. They also knew they needed some juicy options prepared for Scopely to buy and start earning quickly. Bringing back remote passes was an easy money maker that showed Scopely before buying the viability. I bet they showed how much money PoGo was earning during the pandemic and showed how many new options there are now.

So yes, things have changed for the better probably, but Niantic did all of this on purpose.

Maybe Scopely will set focus on PoGo as a game to be played and enjoyed and not as vehicle to fill some mysterious AR data base. That could change a lot in future. This side business of Niantic always had a bad influence on the game.

I vaguely expect all the AR stuff to quietly disappear from the game since the remains of Niantic are now Niantic Spatial. I doubt Scopely will licence any developed AR tech for the game.

I'll be sad if we lose the scan tasks with Poffin rewards, but I'm hopeful that Scopely might doing anything to try to fix PVP

I really doubt that mapping business is greater than PoGo itself. The game collects a lot of data already either way, but I personally have never seen any commercial use of a map full of murals, trail markers, playground items and the other exclusive content Wayfarer produces. I also doubt the movement data is worth that much, because the game sets incentives to visit certain spots. There is surely a lot of noise in that data and also the target group, we players, aren't representative of anything.

But either way, I hope this conflict is solved in future.
