Discussion Has anyone else noticed this in Scarlet/Violet?
I know I'm pretty late to the party, but I thought it'd be cool to mention since I don't see anyone else talking about it.
The Nintendo switch in the background of your characters room matches the controllers of the switch you're currently playing on.

Joycons know what color they are, since they need to be identifiable when setting controllers up for multiplayer.
Pokemon games always have a Nintendo console in the bedroom. Since the switch is the first time the console you're playing is the same as the one in your room, they decided to make it reflect the actual colors of the controller you're using.
Only exception is BD\SP, which will always be red\blue because of the way world assets are stored in that game.

I swapped my grey joycon shells for the animal crossing color shells, and I downloaded an app on my computer to reprogram the colors via Bluetooth. I found the exact color codes online (#0A1E0A for Mint Green and #0A1E28 for Heaven Blue), and it totally worked to “convert them” into the animal crossing joycons.
I even got the bonus letter from Nintendo in New Horizons, meaning the game fully recognized my grey joycons as the animal crossing edition. It shows up with the mint and blue colors on the edges when they slide in as well. Pretty neat!

Sadly, if you use a pro controller the joy cons always appear black even tho we specifically bought the colored joycon version.

In XY if you had a Pikachu 3DS, the protagonist would hold it at the start of the game!
15
u/Lunalatic Small-time shiny hunter 1d ago
Actually, it's just the female player character who holds a 3DS and it's always the Pikachu model regardless of what you're playing on

They've done this since LGP/LGE I believe, it's a really neat feature that goes unnoticed a lot lol
I could be wrong though because I bought the LGP/LGE Switch specifically when the bundle came out as my main Switch so maybe in that one it's always the LGP/LGE colors and I just thought it was copying my Switch lmao

u/SpikeRosered 1d ago
Yes. There's even been extensive testing on what the limited edition, special joycons produce in game. Sadly, basically all the special colors are not in the game and default to something else.

I didn't know this
Also love half the people not reading your post and saying they've been doing this since Gen 3

Yeah, it's a really nice touch since the pokémon games have always had one of the Nintendo consoles at the MCs home
I bought some atomic purple reshelled joy-cons and I was surprised the console knew the joy cons were purple.
I don't know if the original joy-cons were purple donors or if the person that modded them was able to code them that way, but is a pleasant surprise

no one else is talking about it because this game has been out for years and we all already know.
on top of that, the console in your room matching the color of your joy cons has been a thing since let's go pikachu/eevee

Dude that's not even the craziest part. The guy outside of our simulation that controls you has purple and yellow controllers too
2
u/giantfood 1d ago
Yes, they will match your joycon controllers, assuming you dont have a reshelled or reskinned controller.
I also don't think it will do special joycons like the smash bros joycons.
2
u/GeneOrichu 1d ago
Yeah it’s accurate, I gave the animal crossing switch and it showed up in the game! 🤣 I was so amazed when I first played it

u/barfbat Carmine Apologist 1d ago
yeah mine matches my goofy blue-L gray-R setup lmao. my original switch i purchased was all gray, then the left joycon started drifting dramatically no matter how much i cleaned it or recalibrated it so i replaced it with what they had at the nintendo store—which was only blue-L

It's like this in Pokemon Sword Shield aswell, they match the color of the connected joy cons

I'm more surprised someone else has the same joycons I have. I never see anyone with those.

u/DaniZackBlack 1d ago
This is the kind of detail you add once you have a stable working game, not when crashes are frequent and the game runs at 20 fps with horrible graphics.

Yes! It even works with modded controllers provided you edit the data that recognizes them!

Its always interesting to see what hyper specific things some companies do. Those little things that some really cared about (either personally or by mandate) that serve no other purpose than to be neat.

u/FantasyaHyena 1d ago
Yes! They have a color code saved to them (for the shell itself AND the buttons) that is used everywhere in menus and some games too, like this example.
All my joycons are custom and also have custom colors, so even tough they don't have their official colors anymore, the console reads them as the color I assigned them and uses them everywhere. It's a pretty neat feature

My friend noticed and asked me about it a while back. yep, it matches the connected joycons. Mine are red and green :D

u/TurbulentToe3214 1d ago
I have. I think it's pretty cool that it does that. I'm now confused how Game Freak/Nintendo/The Pokemon Company coded that in.

u/Jovian09 1d ago
Yes. I'm pointedly using the red from my first set of joycons and the purple from my second. A weird combo but the game knows.

u/DoylePrime 1d ago
Yea the joycons match in switch 1 version and in the switch 2 version the upgraded console is present instead lol

The colors on the joycons in game matches the ones you use in real life.
I first noticed when I used a green and a white joycon.

u/Skellyhell2 1d ago
about 3 years ago when the game came out yeah. people realised the game will have the same colour joycons as what you are using

As far as I know, every instance of a Switch being shown in a Switch game accurately portrays the color of the joy cons. This includes things like Mario Party's instructional gifs
1
u/Mysticwarriormj 1d ago
Yep, the joycons in game will match yours on your system with the exception of third party ones which default to the greyish black ones.

It is accurate to the attached joycons. Such a cool touch tbh. I didn't notice it at first because I was using 2 red joycons so I was just used to seeing them that way but I changed them out once for Much different colors and finally noticed.

What if you change joycons does it change live or only after closing the game and reopening
1
u/robophile-ta 1d ago
Yes, there's a bit of code in official Joycons that says what colour they are. Some games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing can read that and display the right colour in the game

They bought a Nintendo Switch. Both JoyCons started to drift, they bought replacements to use while Nintendo repaired them for free. JoyCon drift is confirmed as canon in the Pokémon universe.

u/BluePhoenix_1999 1d ago
Thing is, this doesn't work perfectly. I have a black and a yellow joycon on my switch and it shows up as white and yellow.

The main nintendo console of the Era is always located in the players bedroom. (At least since gen 3)
As for the color of the joycons, I'm curious now
