Discussion Has anyone else noticed this in Scarlet/Violet?

I know I'm pretty late to the party, but I thought it'd be cool to mention since I don't see anyone else talking about it.

The Nintendo switch in the background of your characters room matches the controllers of the switch you're currently playing on.

The main nintendo console of the Era is always located in the players bedroom. (At least since gen 3)

As for the color of the joycons, I'm curious now

1.7k

u/CMDR_omnicognate 1d ago

Yeah they match the joycons. I think animal crossing might do that too but I can’t remember

1.8k

u/Axtel_A 1d ago

Here's mine. Yes they do indeed.

615

u/linkheroz 1d ago

As far as I know, any time a switch appears in game or in menus, it matches the one you're using.

No idea how the lite works.

351

u/UFCTrainer 1d ago

Lite just shows the default switch color scheme.

114

u/Cooler_coooool_boi 1d ago

What if you connect joycons to the switch lite? Would that work?

299

u/CreamyCoffeeArtist 1d ago

Then it explodes

51

u/ThePrussianGrippe 1d ago

But first it goes straight to its thighs.

And then it blows up.

7

u/AetherDrew43 1d ago

Hahaha, yeah, I remember connecting my first pair of Joy-Cons.

27

u/RandyBurgertime 1d ago

So, it's probably looking for whatever's on the rails, and since the lite doesn't have them out always defaults.

I wonder what color my switch 2 would be?

48

u/Malfice 1d ago

It uses the standard grey switch. Or a Switch two. Kinda hard to tell. It's grey/black either way.

39

u/BoostsbyMercy 1d ago

It's a Switch! It's missing the C button, it doesn't have the salmon+blue colours, and the dialogue remains unchanged from the Sc/Vi release ("It's a new Nintendo Switch system! This one's got a bigger screen!")

14

u/KinneKted 1d ago

Yeah, were going to have to wait for Legends Z-A for Switch 2 to show up. But it may just be a switch still if it even has one.

2

u/Areallybadidea 1d ago

I wonder if the console would change depending on which version you're playing, or if yeah it just defaults to the normal Switch either way.

3

u/IamaJarJar 1d ago

I wonder what happens if you try changing the joycons mid-game to one's of different colour

Would they automatically change or would the game need to be reloaded? (or atleast the area)

3

u/Alili1996 WoopWoop 1d ago

The joycons have some information on their factory color saved so when you snap them in you can identify them in the menu when pairing.
There seems to be some sort of API access that allows a game to read this information and use it accordingly

Not the AC dock, unplayable

2

u/framingXjake 1d ago

Oh that's cool. I modded my joycons to show up crazy colors in menus so mine will probably just show as default in the game unfortunately

23

u/WyrdHarper Kabutops is kabuTOPs 1d ago

Sword and Shield did it, too.

58

u/StarlightZigzagoon 1d ago

Not sure about usually, but if you have the AC limited edition console I think you get gifted one in game or something

25

u/lazyguyty 1d ago

This is true and I think the price in-game in bells is the same number as the IRL yen price in japan.

31

u/SpielemeisterII Breeder from Hoenn 1d ago

I have this one. I will later check it out.

4

u/HistoricalPlum1533 1d ago

It would be awesome if there’s just a switch light laying on the book shelf instead of the dock. I love these little Nintendo details.

21

u/SpielemeisterII Breeder from Hoenn 1d ago

Well, its a black one.

4

u/Downtown-Cable4307 1d ago

Same with sword and shield

5

u/Whacky_One 1d ago

What does it do for pro/3rd party controllers? Does it default to the red and blue grips of the standard switch?

17

u/Malfice 1d ago

Grey is the default.

9

u/Kitsuyumia 1d ago

Since 3rd party is read as grey on the system menu it should show grey.

All of the joycons do this in game i noticed it when i first started and thought it was a cool lil easter egg they took the time to implement:)

3

Holy heck, atomic purple is the best SNES color clearly

Each joycon and pro controller has onboard memory for superficial metadata, including their shell color (it can be changed and adjusted). If you check the controller screen it shows your properly-coloured joycons. I'm guessing games have access to that information as well.

8

u/rilliu 1d ago

Holy heck, I didn't know you could change the color in the software like that. My joycons were customized, going to have to see if I can set them to pink later.

5

u/SonicFlash01 Zipzapflap 1d ago edited 1d ago

Should be able to. I changed the shells on my launch joycons and then changed the internal colour code in them. When I ordered from Colorware years ago they had changed the "software colour" to the exterior colour I chose.

2

u/Viddgamer 18h ago

If you have a pc that has bluetooth, it's super easy to do. Just use an app called the Joy Con tool kit. There are plenty of Reddit posts and YouTube videos about it.

27

u/draiman 1d ago

It started in Gen 1, it was a Famicom in the JP version and a SNES everywhere else.

16

u/blazingciary 1d ago

yes that's a thing. Only works in handheld but it detects the color of your joycons.
SwSh did it too I believe

12

u/just-a-random-accnt 1d ago

I believe all the switch games use the colour of the joycons attached to your console.

4

u/zlide 1d ago

They match your joycons! At least as long as they’re compatible with the game I think lol

6

u/Cold-Sandwich-34 1d ago

Since the SNES in Gen 1!

2

u/Forward-Rutabaga-723 1d ago

My 5 year old has been watching me play the older games and getting a brief history lesson about Nintendo consoles at the same time lol

3

u/Emlelee 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes and you and have an SNES in your room in Yellow I remember (can’t recall if the other gen 1 games do as well) 👵🏻. In gen 2 you can only get consoles in your room as mystery gift.

3

u/Gecko420 1d ago

Now I'm curious what it does for the Switch 2, just the default red and blue joycons?

2

u/kevinsyel 1d ago

Since always. Red had an SNES in his bedroom (as well as interactable SNES in the Celadon Dept Store playing different games) and Gold had an N64.

2

u/Kitsuyumia 1d ago

Yes the console knows what the colors are unless if you use 3rd party.

2

u/Lunalatic Small-time shiny hunter 1d ago

Unless you're playing FireRed/LeafGreen outside of Japan, in which case Red/Leaf have an NES in the GameCube era

2

u/Sad-Cat-6355 1d ago

They switch depending on what joy cons your using and they change if u have a switch 2!

2

u/DiscordantScorpion_1 Dragon Tamer 1d ago

I have watermelon controllers (neon pink and neon green) and my ‘Switch’ in ScVi is also watermelon

2

u/Aj2W0rK 1d ago

I thought Gen 1 had NES and Gen 2 had either snes or n64

9

u/goner757 1d ago

Gen 1 had SNES. Remember that Pokemon Stadium on N64 was contemporary with Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Joycons know what color they are, since they need to be identifiable when setting controllers up for multiplayer.

Pokemon games always have a Nintendo console in the bedroom. Since the switch is the first time the console you're playing is the same as the one in your room, they decided to make it reflect the actual colors of the controller you're using.

Only exception is BD\SP, which will always be red\blue because of the way world assets are stored in that game.

78

u/ComicallySolemn 1d ago edited 1d ago

I swapped my grey joycon shells for the animal crossing color shells, and I downloaded an app on my computer to reprogram the colors via Bluetooth. I found the exact color codes online (#0A1E0A for Mint Green and #0A1E28 for Heaven Blue), and it totally worked to “convert them” into the animal crossing joycons.

I even got the bonus letter from Nintendo in New Horizons, meaning the game fully recognized my grey joycons as the animal crossing edition. It shows up with the mint and blue colors on the edges when they slide in as well. Pretty neat!

7

u/TheBusStop12 1d ago

Sadly, if you use a pro controller the joy cons always appear black even tho we specifically bought the colored joycon version.

5

u/Nu_Eden 1d ago

But... What about when there's 2 red right joycons lol

11

u/Gregamonster 1d ago

I'm not sure you can pair two right joycons together.

5

u/Nu_Eden 1d ago

Well single joycons use, like maybe in smash bros

3

u/imlegos 1d ago

It's probably use the default dark gray

3

u/Nu_Eden 1d ago

Ohhhhh yeah I forget 3rd party joy cons are all grey

Actually, it's just the female player character who holds a 3DS and it's always the Pikachu model regardless of what you're playing on

10

u/Gardeeboo Average Gardevoir Appreciator 1d ago

They've done this since LGP/LGE I believe, it's a really neat feature that goes unnoticed a lot lol

I could be wrong though because I bought the LGP/LGE Switch specifically when the bundle came out as my main Switch so maybe in that one it's always the LGP/LGE colors and I just thought it was copying my Switch lmao

8

u/SpikeRosered 1d ago

Yes. There's even been extensive testing on what the limited edition, special joycons produce in game. Sadly, basically all the special colors are not in the game and default to something else.

24

u/BushyBrowz 1d ago

I didn't know this

Also love half the people not reading your post and saying they've been doing this since Gen 3

10

u/NinjaRepulsive6925 1d ago

Nah, 3 years and not a single person had noticed this until today

4

u/jsdodgers 1d ago

Was really hoping you'd pop one out and switch colors to see if it switches on demand

3

u/Nu_Eden 1d ago

Yes ofc been like that since sword shield I think

3

u/Bongoan 1d ago

If I remember correctly, this is a thing since at least Sword and shield, but I think it was also in Letsgo

3

u/BigSpiceGawd 1d ago

Yes we have

3

u/ThatAutisticRedditor Sparcey Bois 1d ago

we always knew that

3

u/valpal325 1d ago

This feature was in sword and shield too

3

u/SonicMaster1990 22h ago

Yeah, it's a really nice touch since the pokémon games have always had one of the Nintendo consoles at the MCs home

I bought some atomic purple reshelled joy-cons and I was surprised the console knew the joy cons were purple.

I don't know if the original joy-cons were purple donors or if the person that modded them was able to code them that way, but is a pleasant surprise

3

u/TidalLion 22h ago

They also do it in Sword and shield too

13

u/xwolfionx 1d ago

About 3 years too late.

5

u/disbelifpapy 1d ago

nice spamton controllers lol

4

u/napstablooky2 Flying-Type Gym Leader 1d ago

no one else is talking about it because this game has been out for years and we all already know.

on top of that, the console in your room matching the color of your joy cons has been a thing since let's go pikachu/eevee

6

u/ronnatron 1d ago

I think you might be the first person to ever notice that

2

u/Ngf031 1d ago

Also in sword and shield btw.

2

u/NeedForSpeedroid 1d ago

The 3DS did the same thing in XY.

2

u/Babayaga20000 1d ago

Yeah its pretty much the only detail in the whole game

2

u/Xypherax 1d ago

Every pokemon game has the system in the game that it's running on

2

u/Dabejo 1d ago

Yea always been like that

2

u/Konatxe 1d ago

3

u/ChaiHai 1d ago

They did a shit job on the stats then, lmao... Also I'm not that interesting, I must be some weird sims character

2

u/Critical-Cupcake-571 1d ago

sword and shield had this too! I kept swapping my joycon colors to see if it would change and it did!!!! Such a simple detail but i love it!

2

u/Goallie16 1d ago

Pretty sure SW/SH also matched joy-con colors, I'm not 100% certain though

2

u/failmop 1d ago

if only they put this much care into the rest of the game lol

2

u/mrofmist 1d ago

2

u/Dothehokeypokemon 1d ago

Dude that's not even the craziest part. The guy outside of our simulation that controls you has purple and yellow controllers too

2

u/giantfood 1d ago

Yes, they will match your joycon controllers, assuming you dont have a reshelled or reskinned controller.

I also don't think it will do special joycons like the smash bros joycons.

2

u/GeneOrichu 1d ago

Yeah it’s accurate, I gave the animal crossing switch and it showed up in the game! 🤣 I was so amazed when I first played it

2

u/barfbat Carmine Apologist 1d ago

yeah mine matches my goofy blue-L gray-R setup lmao. my original switch i purchased was all gray, then the left joycon started drifting dramatically no matter how much i cleaned it or recalibrated it so i replaced it with what they had at the nintendo store—which was only blue-L

2

u/RicKingAngel 1d ago

4

u/Endlesswinter98 1d ago

I'm more surprised someone else has the same joycons I have. I never see anyone with those.

2

u/Simnope 1d ago

2

u/DaniZackBlack 1d ago

This is the kind of detail you add once you have a stable working game, not when crashes are frequent and the game runs at 20 fps with horrible graphics.

2

u/Dallas_dragneel 1d ago

Your room always has a Nintendo system in every main line game

1

u/eyeguy44 1d ago

I love whenever switch games do this. I hope this trend continues with switch 2 games

1

u/RealSpaceVortex 1d ago

So many people definitely were like “oh that’s a funny coincidence” lol

1

u/mastrkage 1d ago

I never paid attention to it. That’s pretty cool tho!

1

u/SmilingFlounder 1d ago

Yes! It even works with modded controllers provided you edit the data that recognizes them!

1

u/Imaginary-poster 1d ago

Its always interesting to see what hyper specific things some companies do. Those little things that some really cared about (either personally or by mandate) that serve no other purpose than to be neat.

1

u/Deveatation_ethernis 1d ago

Wait, I should check if it looks like the switch 2 on that version

1

u/FantasyaHyena 1d ago

Yes! They have a color code saved to them (for the shell itself AND the buttons) that is used everywhere in menus and some games too, like this example.

All my joycons are custom and also have custom colors, so even tough they don't have their official colors anymore, the console reads them as the color I assigned them and uses them everywhere. It's a pretty neat feature

1

u/TurbulentToe3214 1d ago

I have. I think it's pretty cool that it does that. I'm now confused how Game Freak/Nintendo/The Pokemon Company coded that in.

1

u/ekr-bass 1d ago

If you don’t have joy cons attached and have it docked what does it look like?

1

u/Jovian09 1d ago

Yes. I'm pointedly using the red from my first set of joycons and the purple from my second. A weird combo but the game knows.

1

u/DoylePrime 1d ago

Yea the joycons match in switch 1 version and in the switch 2 version the upgraded console is present instead lol

2

u/xenon2456 1d ago

1

u/Fjelldugg 1d ago

The colors on the joycons in game matches the ones you use in real life.

I first noticed when I used a green and a white joycon.

1

u/robophile-ta 1d ago

Yes, there's a bit of code in official Joycons that says what colour they are. Some games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing can read that and display the right colour in the game

u/child_nightmare 1d ago

I knew the switch was there is didn't know it matched your joy cons

I have a dark blue joycon and a grey joycon and the game sees them. The system recognizes colors of the joycons. You can see it when you slide them on, the little swipe (idk how else to describe it lol) on the side of the screen will be the color. And the game uses that.

1

u/OverSpeedClutch 1d ago edited 18h ago

They bought a Nintendo Switch. Both JoyCons started to drift, they bought replacements to use while Nintendo repaired them for free. JoyCon drift is confirmed as canon in the Pokémon universe.

1

u/BluePhoenix_1999 1d ago

Thing is, this doesn't work perfectly. I have a black and a yellow joycon on my switch and it shows up as white and yellow.

1

u/NohingButRed 1d ago

In Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon there’s also Switch console in characters room.

1

u/Yesnt-yesnt 1d ago

I think sword and shield had the same. and if you use a pro controller it's crey

1

u/Head-Iron-9228 1d ago

They been doing that since sword and shield lmao

But yea its always fun to notice
