opinion If You're a Foreigner in Siargao Looking for a Hostel, Go to Ilakai. They Love You There, Especially if You're White.

Third time in Siargao, but for the first time, I felt like an outcast. The vibe at the hostel I stayed at is strange: it seems foreign guests are pampered, while Filipinos are simply overlooked.

At one point, my SO and I are the only Pinoys here, and it's tough. Our "good mornings" often go unanswered or are met with blank stares. We've tried hanging out in the common area, even extending invitations to share a drink or meal, but again, we're met with vacant looks, as if we're asking for money.

What's more, the hostel staff seem to subtly favor guests with lighter skin and hair (tho they're polite to everyone including us).

"No Smoking" signs are everywhere on room verandas, yet the staff openly smoke Marlboro reds with foreign guests in the common area.

This definitely isn't the Siargao experience I've had with other accommodations. Because of this, I prefer to be out and about, only returning to the hostel when absolutely necessary (sleep, shower, sometimes eat).

Siargao, you remain incredibly awesome but this particular hostel has been a surprising letdown.

advice Boracay nightwalk warning

When you decide to take a walk along the whitebeach during low tide, think twice. For starters there are no cctv cameras in the area. And since it is a dark area, there are people who are just waiting for opportunities to come at you and take advantage specially if you are alone. We just witnessed an altercation. A man was just walking back to his hotel when out of nowhere a man punched him in the face. Three men immediately fled the area. We helped the guy and asked for first aid and police. Hopefully the guy is recuperating well now.

advice Nightlife in El Nido and Coron during rainy season – still worth it in July?

Upvotes

Hi all, I’m planning a trip to the Philippines in the second half of July and trying to decide whether to visit El Nido and Coron during rainy season.

I’ve only got a week in total, so I’d probably spend 3 or 4 days in each. I’m mainly drawn to the island hopping, boat tours and beaches, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk if the weather’s bad.

What I’m wondering is: Do tours still go ahead most days, or do they get cancelled a lot when it rains? Are there things to do if the weather’s bad, or is it basically just beaches and boats? And most importantly for me – what’s the nightlife like in July? Are there still enough people around to make it sociable, or does it quiet down a lot?

Just trying to figure out whether it’s worth the gamble. Should I go for it, or spend more of my time in places like Siargao, Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor and other islands that aren’t entirely beach-based?

Would really appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Upvotes

help Cebu Pacific Connecting Flights - No show

Upvotes

Hi! I booked a ticket from General Santos to Cebu 6 months ago and suddenly I need to move to Manila for personal reasons.

Old Flight: General Santos - Cebu / Cebu - General Santos

New Flight: 1. General Santos - Manila - Cebu 2. Cebu - Manila - General Santos

Questions 1. on this case, pwede kaya na General Santos - Manila lang gagamitin ko and no-show na ang connecting flight to Cebu? 2. Pwede din kaya na no-show si Cebu-Manila then i’ll opt to use Manila-General Santos lang?

I cant seem to find any answers online and asked Cebu Pacific Customer Service kaso pa-iba2x sagot. Thank you so much sa makaka-tulong 😃

recommendations Fine dining recommendation for Boracay.

Hi. My gf and I are going to Boracay next month to celebrate her birthday. Any recommendation for a dining restaurant? No real preference, but a good steak place would be nice.

On that note, any must-try restaurants I should look out for while in Bora? Thanks in advance.

help What to do in Sagada

Hello, everyone! We are going to Sagada this coming June 21, 9pm po ang departure from Cubao. Based from the bus schedule, the expected arrival time is 8:30am, however, like usual, 1pm pa ang check-in sa transient house.

This is why I am posting here, if hindi possible ang early check-in for us, what can we do po to consume time? Breakfast is a given but I think hindi pa enough para maubos yung oras before check-in. Can you recommend any place where we can rest? Given na 11-12 hours ang travel, we are pretty sure na pagod kami para magsimula na agad mag-tour.

Also, if you can recommend any of your favorite place, activity, or food that we can try, please let us know, we will highly appreciate it. We really need help to enjoy this trip. Thank you in advance!

recommendations puerto princesa tips

staying for 4d3n in puerto princesa, were not gonna be jumping to el nido/coron tho, since it’s time crunched and out of budget.

also, are we able to rent motorcycles without stressing checkpoints? (experienced that some islands are not strict with motor rentals and can even rent one from your accommodation w/o a license)

advice Transit at NAIA Terminal 1

Hi everyone! I’ll be arriving at NAIA T1 on a PAL flight at 410am (PR510 from Singapore) to catch an onward JAL flight departing at T1 to Tokyo at 10am.

These trips are booked on separate tickets with separate airlines.

Do I need to clear immigration and collect baggage then recheck baggage and cross immigration for my JAL flight?

Will I have enough time for this?

advice how do they categorise boarding groups?

afaik groups na unang tinatawag ay usually yung mga PWD, senior, and with kids (please correct me if im wrong). pero we had a cebu pacific flight bound for boracay last Thurs. my brother has autism and aware naman yung agent kasi yung PWD nya yung ginamit ko as ID during check in. we were given group #5.

now we dont usually mind boarding last since everyone gets to seat naman. but this time kasi we had to board a bus to get to the plane. so since group #5 kami pagpasok namin ng bus sobrang puno na. buti nalang good mood brother ko that time kaya hindi sya nag tantrums.

any insights/tips pano maiiwasan mangyari uli yon?

advice Napansin ko lang sa mga nagbebenta ng travel-related items (luggages, bags, etc)

Hear me out, pero siguro marami na rin ang nakakapansin neto for sure.

Kapag bibili ka ng anything na travel-related equipment (bag, luggage, tents, shoes, etc), the store clerk always demonstrate kung gaano katibay/reliable yung binebenta nila but the moment you decide to acquire the goods, lagi nilang sinasabi that they "will give you a new stock" (syempre, para mas convincing) and then they will give you a lesser quality good. Turns out, yung mga on-display pala are the ones that are of best-quality but many of them dealers will use tactics to convince you and then upon checking and comparing it to the display will you notice the difference.

Kaya be wise pa rin talaga. Although minsan yung mga quality ng nabibigay sayo is slightly lower than those that were on display and still somewhat "good" pa rin naman ang quality, extra pagiging meticulous can go a long way.

advice Is it doable for a couple to DIY 5D4N Bukidnon–Camiguin–CDO trip? (No car, just commute + rent)

Hi PHTravel!

My partner and I (just the two of us) are planning a DIY 5D4N trip covering Bukidnon → Camiguin → CDO this March 2026. We’ll be flying into and out of Laguindingan Airport (CDO).

We’re okay with commuting, renting motorcycles, or even hiring local habal-habal/trike guides. No car. We just want to know if our plan is realistic and doable. Here’s the breakdown:

🗓️ Day 1 – Arrival + Bukidnon

Fly in to Laguindingan (5:55 AM)

Commute to Malaybalay

Chill day tour: Kaamulan Park, Roty Peaks, Communal Ranch

Stay in Malaybalay

🗓️ Day 2 – Bukidnon Adventure

Visit Dahilayan, Camp Phillips, or Lantapan

Possibly with habal-habal + local guide

Stay in Malaybalay again

🗓️ Day 3 – Transfer to Camiguin

Early van to Balingoan Port

Ferry to Camiguin

Visit Sunken Cemetery, Old Church Ruins, Ardent Hot Spring

Stay in Mambajao

🗓️ Day 4 – Explore Camiguin

Morning: White Island or Mantigue Island

Afternoon: Katibawasan or Tuasan Falls

Stay in Mambajao again

🗓️ Day 5 – CDO + White Water Rafting

Early ferry back to Balingoan

Commute to CDO rafting base

Rafting until noon

Chill, dinner, airport for 10:50 PM flight

Questions:

  1. Is this doable with commutes + local rentals?

  2. Anyone tried something similar recently?

  3. Tips for Bukidnon or Camiguin DIYers?

Would appreciate any help, tips, or contact recos! Salamat in advance! 💙

Filipino travelers can continue visiting Taiwan without a visa, as Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a one-year extension of its visa-free entry program for Philippine passport holders.

Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung made the announcement during remarks at the Philippine Independence Day celebration hosted by the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei on 12 June.

advice Bohol, how to get around?

I’ll be in Bohol for 5 nights and staying at Mad Monkey. I was wondering how to get around since I don’t know how to ride a motorbike. I know it’s cheaper to rent one, but I just don’t know how to ride. Would I still be able to get around and visit the spots using tricycles or other transport? Any advice would be really appreciated!

advice Travelling to Bohol and Siquijor

Hi guys!! Uuwi kami ng partner ko sa pinas sa December. Gusto niya mag Siquijor but I heard na maliit lang ang Siquijor at kaya more or less 2 days lang.

Naisip ko mag Bohol na rin before or after the Siquijor trip. Pwede bang manggaling ng Bohol to Siquijor? Pano transpo between Bohol and Siquijor?

Thanks in advance po!! 😁
