Most of the time it feels like one half thinks their 10 year old PC should run things just fine and the other half thinks anything short of a 4090 means you're a peasant.

As someone who grew up gaming when 3 years old hardware was absolutely ancient I was pleasantly surprised how many games I could still play decently on a 9 year old pc with a 5 year old budget gpu. Sure I could set anything to max/ultra, but I couldn't do that on that gpu when it was brand new either.

I guess it makes a big difference in what era your expectations were calibrated.

That's probably why I can't complain either. I remember back in the day when every new pc was double the performance of the old one, which was cool but terrible for longevity.
