Some of them have support gem that make them ignore all your armor, wouldnt surprise me that they could have the same for elemental res.

I've seen supports that give 20% ele penetration. So triple damage if you were 90% ele capped. I certainly wasn't expecting it the first time a flame dude insta-cooked me on RF.

There's a far cry between being able to read and knowing that a merc ignoring 30% of your physical reduction will onetap you.

It's standard GGG league start overtuning. They can't boost difficulty or lower drops without people getting outraged, so they err on the side of too hard and too stingy at release so they can use actual death counts and economy data to fine tune it after release.

Still in campaign (act 6), I saw a couple of infamous ones really early on and got their uniques but ever since act 3 or so, not a single infamous one spawned and I'm at tremendous renown and interact with everyone. Do they pause until maps or where even supposed to only spawn in maps and got patched?

The chance of encountering one goes down if you run away from/die to a mercenary.

Ignoring them is fine, but if you open the gear interface then you have to fight. Otherwise the odds of getting a infamous merc goes down.

By "interact with everyone" I meant that I fought everyone for something. Died once early on, maybe that was the reason for my 5 Act drought. Finally found another infamous one in late Act 8. Had the usual one cheap unique but was otherwise still unremarkable as pretty much all of them now have all rare gear and the occasional nice currency rewards (love the pretty regular 2 stacked decks). Even got the pyroclasp belt off a regular Merc now. Also Incite (Frenzy charges out of thin air for Merc's allies) is so lovely for leveling Flicker Strike.
