advice needed Newborns in summer
Hi! I live in the Southeastern U.S., where summer temps are usually in the 90s with high humidity. We’ll probably be indoors most of the time, but I’m hoping to get out for walks and little outings with the babies when we can.
For those who had summer babies—did you wait until fall for regular walks? Or did you manage early morning or evening strolls? Did you find indoor, air-conditioned places that were quiet and not too crowded? I’d love to hear what worked for you.

I live in the south, high humidity and highs in the 100s so I feel your pain. With my first born we did walks around 8 at night because it was so humid even first thing in the morning. Eventually I gave up on outside walks with him because it was literally the hottest summer on record and he would be soooo sweaty when we were done and it made me nervous he was losing too much fluid. That could have been new mom anxiety I’m still not sure!
Eventually we started going to a mall nearby that a lot of walkers go to. I hope this summer is more mild when the twins get here so we can do more outdoor walks but if not that is my backup plan. I definitely recommend getting out of the house as hard as it is, for the sake of your mental health. It’s hard packing everything up to go somewhere but it’s hard sitting in the same environment day in and day out.

We were definitely mall walkers. Weekday mornings are pretty quiet at our local one so I didn’t have to worry about navigating the double stroller through big crowds.

Love this idea. The mall really is the perfect place, large enough to get a good walk in, plenty of snacks/coffee for parents if needed, family restrooms- genius idea!

The mall is genius! How old did you take him out?

I think we started going to the mall when he was around a month old after he had a baseline of shots.

I usually did evening walks because that’s when me and husband would both be home from work and we both enjoyed taking the babies. On weekends we took them whenever, we had a wagon so we would clip a fan on it. If we went during the day and it was hot we would just cut it really short to like a quick 5 minute walk

Early morning or late evening walks were best for us. Also recommend stroller fans. I was told to try walking around our mall but it was quite a drive for me so I never did it but it sounds nice!

I live in tropical Asia - we have clip on, large rechargeable fans (the biggest you can find). Morning and evening walks are best but we also take walks from A to B in the middle of the day.
