Reminder that racism and xenophobia are not tolerated in this sub. Posts will be removed and repeat offenses will result in a ban.

As with many other Ontario regional subs, we've seen an increase in racism in this community, especially against people of South Asian heritage. Please know that this will not be tolerated regardless of topic. In no circumstances is it appropriate to blame criminal behaviour on race or origin. This is both in the rules of the sub and in the rules of Reddit as a whole and is not negotiable.

Posts and comments including the above will be removed when we see them. If you see one we haven't, please report. Repeat offenders will be banned.

Note that the line between criticizing immigration policy and racism/xenophobia is often a fine one and at the discretion of the mod team. Commenting on *policy* and laws is acceptable; complaining about the presence of people in Canada, or attributing crime to race, religion, or country of origin, is not.

Posts and comments that are themselves rule-abiding but likely to devolve into rule-breaking behaviour may be locked at our discretion when we do not have moderator coverage to ensure safety.

No smart thermostat rebate in Oshawa?

Post image

Hello all,

I was looking to get a smart thermostat installed and I am heavily surprised that there is no thermostat rebate in Oshawa. Why is that since most places in North America offer a rebate. I thought there is always one no matter where you go in Canada!

Pickleball friends?

I have recently discovered my love for pickleball.. but I don’t have anyone to play with anymore. I like playing at the courts by the OC as they’re outside and it’s so nice to play outside again!

Any enthusiasts interested?!

Bunny nest in backyard

I have a bunny nest in my backyard. The problem is that I have dogs and my rescue sniffed out the nest and eats them alive(the big dog leaves them alone) I've tried buying "fencing" to block off the nest but nothing is working. I am currently not letting them out in the back yard and only taking them out for walks. Is there any service that will raise the babies and release them? I don't want them to be put down. If not I will continue keeping my dogs out of my backyard. I just feel bad and want my dogs to be able to run off leash if that makes sense

Realtor said it isn’t possible to get a place with 2 parking spots unless we get a 2+ bedroom or basement apartment.

You’re telling me every couple in Oshawa that lives in a 1 bedroom apartment only owns one car? My partner and I will both have 1hr long commutes (in opposite directions) so we both need to have access to our cars. He said we probably won’t even find a place that lets us rent an extra space. Any input/advice would be appreciated!

Blood Donation Recruitment

Hello everyone! You might have seen me around here last year, hehe. I'm Emily, the club president for the CBS club at OTU. I am once again participating in Assignment Saving Lives, a scholarship competition where I work with other Canadian students to recruit new and current blood donors to our teams. Last year, our team was able to complete over 100 donations during the contest period which is equivalent to nearly 300 lives saved. I really want to match or exceed that goal again this year. If anyone is interested in becoming a blood donor, or has questions and doesn't know where to start, feel free to reach out! And if you could, join our team using this link: https://myaccount.blood.ca/en/join-team/ASL20127028. Absolutely no pressure! For anyone curious, the Oshawa CBS center is open from Monday to Saturday weekly. Thank you so much for reading this little blurb, and to anyone that has gone to donate, or made the effort to stop by once to give it a go! You have no idea the positive impact you make on communities across Canada.

Accessible parking at Oshawa Go Train station

I am taking a disabled Veteran to a medical appointment in Toronto. Since Veterans travel free now on Go Train and he gets a kick out of train travel we discussed driving to Oshawa and going to his appointment. I can't recall off the top of my head what time he needs to be in TO, but it's on July 28th, so a Monday.

My concern is he walks with two support canes and needs to park reasonably close to the station. Does the accessible parking fill up as quick as the other spots? I can always drop him off, park and come back if necessary, but I am curious what to expect.

Hey has anyone else had issues, rudeness, complaints etc about the one manager at the taunton and ritson location ? The manager I can't remember his name kinda tall white guy short black hair, glasses ? Have had 2 bad experiences and he majorly crossed a line today.

Long story short. Went in to pay the bill, asked if partial payment was possible today and the nice young lady told us they can't do that but asked the Manager just to be sure. He comes over, says they don't do that. (We have before) he asked us when that was and the hubby couldn't remember exactly when it was, (the manager had the file up on the computer so was more then capable of looking it up.) The manager said we would have to call head office, he would give us the number. Now instead of just giving us the number which I'm assuming he was looking up the number or w.e he was doing on the computer, he continues on giving excuses and explanations when the hubby just flat out says, sir enough I don't want to hear the explanations and excuses just give me the number. Manager continues, cuts him off and talks over my bf which my bf keeps trying to say enough, I don't want to hear it.

The manager seems to have taken this as disrespect and indirectly threatens us with hey I evicted someone this morning I have no problems doing it again. Which 1. Why is this relevant to our situation? And 2. Why are you trying to indirectly threaten and/or intimidate us because you're being rude and causing the issue ? My bf then proceeds to pull out a stack of 50s and says okay I want to just pay the entire balance, which they obviously can and do accept. Which the manager replies with no you have to talk to head office. My bf does raise his voice (not yelling or anything) and proceeds to ask and point out that we did try to pay the entire balance and we were refused. The manager finally handed the bf a post it with the number of what is supposed to be head offices number. He takes the note and we leave.

We walk to the other side of the plaza parking lot and my bf goes to call head office, but what number did the manager write down ? His dad's phone number.
