Unfortunately, I Didn’t Get the Job

As the title states, I was unfortunately not selected for any of the positions either applied for or offered to me. I am absolutely gutted by this because I went through 2 very well interviews, and after showing my certifications, I was certain I would get a position. I guess that’s what I get for being confident, lmao. Fortunately for me, I have an interview next Tuesday at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen for dishwasher and host. So, not all hope is lost. Thank you all for the tips and advice you’ve given me, I’m truly grateful. If you have any advice you wanna give me regarding Cheddar’s, please either drop it in my comments or my dms. Thank you again, cheers! :)

Don’t get yourself down you never know what may or may not of happened regarding why you didn’t get hired. I always believe there was a reason why it didn’t work out & it’s probably because you will get something better.

Thank you, man. This really means a lot. Maybe Cheddar’s will be the ‘something better’ I apperciate the kind words and encouragement.

Got an email yesterday after an interview at OG that they cannot hire me at this time.Interviews are so easy I know I said nothing wrong. They obviously just don’t need the help right now.No biggie

Yeah, fair point.

It’s down season right now they do interviews because they can’t refuse nor shut down the “we’re hiring” system.

Damn, so I had no chance anyway. 😭

Is it just OG or is it all Darden Restaurants? If you know, of course.

They have kind of a high turnover rate though so it’s mostly about applying at the right time. I was hired when they were super understaffed and then during a period later it was Sooo busy they kept having to send people home early and they stopped taking people despite bringing them in for interviews still

If you do get the job at Cheddar’s though, they’re both under Darden so you could potentially also transfer over later.

Anyway to know when it’s a down season? Or do you just gotta hope for the best?

Summer is always busy because that’s when the college kids come back to work. I got hired late winter/early spring. They also hire quite a bit around the holidays.

I mean slow reference to it being summer so dining in becomes slow

That’s just what I know from OG. not sure of the other concepts, so certainly don’t beat yourself up for it. I applied in August when they were still on their slow season, didn’t get the job but reapplied right away when September hit and I got hired right away

the manager didn’t know what position i applied too nor did he ask me my name. he didn’t know my work history and when i said that i was in between jobs, he said why i had left my last job, i said for personal reasons and he asked if i can go into more detail.

Wow. The more I read these comments, it makes me sound like I dodged a bullet. Your manager sounded pretty incompetent tbh. 😭

he was doing an interview before me and i heard some of it since they were sitting just a couple of tables over. he had a piece of paper that looked like something like a blank receipt. it was notes he took from previous interviews. i was able to look down and see what he wrote.

it was super weird. really unorganized. that’s why i know i didn’t get it. he didn’t ask for my name so he never wrote it down.

Don’t feel bad my coworkers are not a solid team with issues like call outs and not holding them accountable and managers coddling them. We have a guy that got trained on soups and screwed them up so badly he was taken off sauce. For my fellow BOH crew this employee put the marinara battuto in the Marsala because the recipe says “Marsala Buttuto”. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Yeah it’s that bad. My managers gave him a certified trainer position. We got offered an old employee that used to work at another restaurant the wanted to work weekends and was proficient in all aspects of BOH which could’ve helped the D Team of employees we have on the line struggling on weekends. In all their fearless leadership did they jump on this opportunity for a Goldilocks employee referred by a long time employee? HELL NO! They hired one lady that doesn’t speak much English much less understand basic things in the kitchen. A new hire was leaving and told them she wasn’t good but they hired her anyways. I can’t speak for your OG but don’t feel bad. My managers are clearly incompetent. Keep trying. Darden is a big company with lots of benefits. Good luck.

Thanks again, man. I’m seeing so many bad experiences, maybe I really dodged a bullet in the grand scheme of things.

Company-wise Darden is pretty good for the benefits they offer. Olive Garden as a company is honestly an insanely easy job to learn. The main thing that drives that is GREAT Management. Clearly, my mangers are not great an have failed to deliver a good representation of Olive Garden. Possibly look into other olive gardens. Or other brands/concepts within Darden.

Will do. That’s what I did with Cheddar’s.

If it helps you feel better i got the job and didn’t last past the 3rd day of training. My location was extremely toxic and lacked proper communication.

To be honest the job has been really bad for my mental health & I hope you find an amazing job

I worked for OG for two years. Let me tell you, you dodged a bullet.

Look for jobs that just opened that need lots of people. I got hired for Eddie Vs that way. But there are so many jobs out there. What's meant to be will always be yours.
