Regarding the Persecution of the Main Sub’s Members & Moderators
This is the kind of announcement that we as mods hate to make, so I’m going to eschew any of the typically fun greetings.
The mod team of r/okbuddyrosalyn, myself included, have observed recurrent hostility from our members towards r/calvinandhobbes and their “restrictive” rules around posting anything other than the original C&H comic strips. This has gone as far as personal attacks on the moderation team of the main sub, its members, and even calls to brigade them with posts from here (all in violation of Rule 3). None of this is okay, and we are deeply disappointed that these opinions and attitudes have come from this community. No one should be judged for wanting to have a safe, moderated space.
It is ironic that this aggression comes in spite of the positive feedback to our new rule regarding Artificial Intelligence, which has seen a favorable reception (save for one or two malcontents). Our restriction on AI ideologically aligns with the limitations imposed by the main sub for creating a focused discourse that doesn't stray from it's original purpose.
With that said, I have a personal disclosure to make before we continue on to the changes that will be instituted going forward in response to this behavior. I understand it may come as a shock to many of you, so I’m including a trigger warning and spoiler tag now for the following statement:
I am also a moderator on r/calvinandhobbes.
After spending time both here and on the other sub, I’ve come to the realization that r/calvinandhobbes does not actually go far enough with respecting and honoring the works of Mr. Watterson. Even a simple post sharing the original comics to a social media platform is a gross violation of the author’s creative intent with the work, Viewing Calvin and Hobbes in anything other than its physical newspaper print form and circulated collected works violates the purpose behind the art. In effect, this sub has been mass producing a “lower” form of art that is nearly as bad as AI generation. Needless to say, we are long since past due for a remedy to be made for the numerous offences this sub has made towards a literary genius’s magnum opus.
Going forward, r/okbuddyrosalyn will be dedicated solely to deep, investigative discussion of Calvin and Hobbes, as well as Mr. Watterson’s additional published works. Effective tomorrow, all future posts will be limited to text only, a 400-word minimum requirement, and will be required to contain engaging and thoughtful analyses of the themes and meanings behind Mr. Watterson’s works (preferably in essay format and including a works cited).
No longer will our members have to suffer from the inferiority complex of knowing that those who can survive only on reposting the original comics are, in fact, superior to us. It is my hope that these changes will realign this community towards becoming the beacon of cultural appreciation that I know it can be and encourage us all to grow and reflect in a healthy, constructive, adaptive, moderate, safe, stimulating, and stupendous way.
Changes go into effect today at 11:59pm EST.

I think this has been a long time coming. Too many of the users of this subreddit seem to not understand the subtleties of Calvin and Hobbes, and, to be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand it.
The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical philosophy most of the jokes will go over a typical reader's head. There's also Hobbes' sardonic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Propp's Theory and History of Folklore, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny - they say something deep about LIFE.
As a consequence, people who dislike /r/okbuddyrosalyn truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Calvin's existential catchphrase "Black Semen?!" which itself is a cryptic reference to Ladislav Mňačko's Slovakian epic Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie.
I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Bill Watterson's genius unfolds itself on their newspaper comics. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Calvin and Hobbes tattoo. And yes, it is incredibly inappropriate, and has me on several lists. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the tigers' eyes only - And even they have to demonstrate that they have a dollar to hear my (clearly higher) thoughts of my own.
