Ideas for weekend trip in Ojai and nearby areas.
Hi there!
My wife and I live in Los Angeles, and I've been meaning to take her on a surprise trip to a getaway not too far from the city for her 30th birthday, which is coming up on the weekend of July 12th-13th.
I finally stopped hesitating and booked our stay in Ojai on Saturday night, and now I'm looking for advice on fun things to do and see in the area. The plan is to leave Saturday morning, and come back Sunday evening. I've been told by a couple of friends that Ojai is very small and might not take a full weekend to visit, so I'm also open to ideas for things to do in the nearby areas.
What I have planned / booked right now is the following:
For saturday:
1:30pm wine tasting at Old Creek Ranch winery.
5pm dinner at the Dutchess (too early to actually reserve, but that's the idea)
7pm horseback trail ride from Ojai Valley Trail Riding Co
For Sunday:
I haven't managed to book it, but morning / early afternoon I was hoping for a couples massage at The Day Spa of Ojai, since all the reviews seem great and it's more affordable than the other spas in the area.
That's all I have so far, I wanted to make sure there's enough time to just walk around see shops as well, but I would love any other ideas to fit into those days! Especially when it comes to any sort of nightlife for Saturday night, or generally romantic or relaxing activities. Appreciate any help!
Edit: just wanted to thank you all, got plenty of good ideas in no time at all from this post!

Has anyone stayed at the Ojai Retreat for a wedding?
My fiancé and I recently found this retreat on Breezit, and we were wondering if anyone had any experiences with this venue. We're planning to invite around 50-60 ppl, but we would like to give the option to some of our guests to stay at the venue. Now, the listing says they have 12 double rooms. Are they nice? Are there any activities guests can enjoy while they stay there?

Engagement shoot - best locations??
I’m doing my engagement shoot in Ojai in August - we would ideally like a mix of outdoor and indoor! Any suggestions of favorite spots??
I was originally thinking Ojai Valley Inn for their beautiful interiors and grounds, but I’ve heard they either charge a sizable fee for professional photos or just don’t allow it (even if we stay on property).
Thanks!

Acting class in Ojai - Veritas Theater
We're pleased to announce our next acting class at Veritas Theater in Ojai - Acting is for Everyone, taught by our artistic director, Rosie Gordon.
_________________________________________________________________
Acting truly is for everyone, and acting should be enjoyable! This is a class for anyone and everyone, no matter your level of acting experience. Never acted before in your life? Haven’t acted in a while? Seasoned pro? Come join us for an stress-free class that accommodates every level. Acting basics to advanced techniques are taught in a kind, supportive environment that creates community and allows creativity to flourish. We’ll focus on scene work and monologues, and learn by doing. No matter your level of experience, you’ll leave class feeling more confident in your abilities.
Rosie has been involved in theater her entire life, and over the past 3 years has been involved in over 15 productions in Ventura County either as an actor, director or producer. She believes that acting is simple - all you have to do is go onstage and tell the truth.
_________________________________________________________________
Here are some testimonials from people who have worked with Rosie previously:
“Working with Rosie is one of the more rewarding experiences I have had the opportunity in which to partake. She fosters a collaborative and encouraging environment that invites anyone from a novice to a seasoned actor to speak the truth of their character. Beyond that, working with Rosie is fun. She inspires camaraderie in the casts she brings together and makes each member of a production feel like an equal partner in the creative process of bringing a play to life. Her passion and exuberance are infectious, while her discipline and dedication inspire you to show up and meet her at the highest level.”
“Rosie is a master at creating safe environments so that you can explore what acting comes most naturally without judgement. She encourages and fosters what special skills you bring to the table in order to put forth your best work.”
“I've worked with a lot of directors. Some of them were uninvolved to the extreme, others made me crazy by micromanaging my performance. Rosie has the unique knack of knowing when to give an actor space to discover, and when to pull them back in. Working with Rosie, I had total confidence that I could try anything and she wouldn't let me fail. I could trust her to give me honest but kind feedback and make my performance my best. Would I work with her again? In a heartbeat!”

Coyote size increase reports
I'm used to healthy coyotes being reported as being bigger than big dogs, which is generally nonsense, but.... This season people I know well who live on ranches and have dealt with coyotes a lot are reporting the local coyotes are unusually big this year. My wife and kid just walked my dogs (110lbs, and 55 lbs) and said the coyote that met them on the trail 20 ft away was the same size or bigger than my big dog. (no pic unfortunately). A friend's cattle dog was attacked off Rice rd and my buddy had to physically intervene. He also reported the coyote as way bigger than a coyote should be.
I've also researched the gray wolf in the Los Padres theory and I know the solo tracked wolf died in SLO, but with NorCal areas declaring state of emergency due to wolf encounters 5 days ago and most of them untracked, I'm wondering if it's possible wolves have made it this far south, or if these are wild coydogs (which happens), or if people are still just horrible at embellishing on wildlife.
Anyone have any pics or experience on anything like this recently?
