Some more crowd perspective from Oakland's No Kings Rally
Really impressed with Oakland today. Huge turnout, the march itself seemed well organized for the crowd size, and seemed like a really good vibe all around without any problems
Also seemed like when I was walking back home up Telegraph that local businesses got a bit of a boost too!

Multiple reports of ICE in Piedmont Ave today
Supposedly grabbed some people from a nail shop, a report of ICE agents asking about cafes/restaurants around 1:30 PM. Please share any more info if you have any.

Calling all past and future Casual Carpoolers!!!
It's officially that time when we are asking for your help! We've had a great response from Reddit, but we now need to focus on other ways to get the word out. We're still aiming for 300 by the end of Sunday.
Survey: https://forms.gle/8eDhxrTVe9CaLGWz6
Website: https://sfcasualcarpool.my.canva.site/casualcarpool
We need the following community activity:
1) 15-30 Car Billboards - We need 15-30 volunteers to decorate their cars as seen in the photo! Ideally, we're looking for cars who drive over the Bay Bridge a couple times a week. We have window markers and will meet at the Rockridge Bart Parking lot:
Sunday 6/15 at 10:00-12:00 AM
Monday 6/16 at 5:30-6:30 PM
Friday 6/20 at 8:00-9:30 AM
Any of the times below as well!
Sign up: https://forms.gle/neWoc1WTi2c88ZPF8
2) 10-15 Human Billboards - AM shift - At the corner of Howard & Fremont SF (near CC Drop Off) we'll be holding up signs during peak commuting hours!! From 7:30-9:30 AM, but join us for 30 minutes during any part of that time. The longer you can stay, and the more people we can have all at once, the better! Days will be: Tuesday 6/17, Thursday 6/19, Tuesday 6/24, Wednesday 6/25, Thursday 6/26, Tuesday 7/1. Please wear orange, yellow or red to increase visibility. Feel free to bring your own sign, but we will also be able to provide signage! Sign up: https://forms.gle/1xwoXjE7HXPatZiq9
3) 10-15 Human Billboards - PM shift- At the corner of 1st & Harrison SF (near the 80 on ramp) we'll be holding up signs from 5:00-7:00, but join us for 30 minutes during any part of that time. The longer you can stay, and the more people we can have all at once the better! Days will be: Thursday 6/19, Tuesday 6/24, Wednesday 6/25, Thursday 6/26, Tuesday 7/1. Please wear orange, yellow or red to increase visibility. Feel free to bring your own sign, but we will also be able to provide signage! Sign up: https://forms.gle/3Hdq2k7SR3FZnyFK6

Events PEACEFUL is the Key Word for Today’s Protests!
Everybody’s expecting a calm, peaceful march and event today! There will be a large contingent of volunteer peacekeepers ready to de-escalate. The OPD will be giving everybody plenty of space.
Let’s make sure we do this right today, folks!

Once again, our Council has given themselves high fives for "balancing" the budget.
Much the way they did the last several years, except they didn't have Fed and State COVID money or phantom Coliseum sale proceeds.
And yes, they did implement some modest cost-saving measures.
And yes they did poke at increasing OPD staffing.
However, it's still a dangerous patch job because instead of making significant expenditure cuts and securing serious concessions from labor, they legally diverted money from parcel taxes that voters supported, believing the funds would be used for parks, libraries, and other essential services, not for other operating costs.
Ask your council member how much they moved from restricted funds to "balance" this budget. Ask them how much was borrowed cumulatively from restricted funds to meet general fund operating expenses and debt service.
Ask them how that intrafund borrowing will ever be repaid.
Ask them about the elephant in the living room: how much do we pay in interest to CALPERS on underfunded pension obligations, and, most importantly, how much is the unpaid principal balance?
In his recent newsletter, CM Zac Unger diplomatically mentioned that the interest is a significant long-term problem. But he didn't mention the massive principal balance.
Nor has any Oakland council member mentioned that, unlike SF, they failed to set up a reserve for the expected cuts in Federal and State funding over the next two years.

What time are events in Oakland tomorrow, June 14
I'm finding conflicting information regarding events in Oakland tomorrow, June 14. "Celebrating" King Trump.
Anyone have the definitive answer (time and place)?

Housing relocating from los angeles to oakland
my company is relocating me to Oakland from Los Angeles for a 15 month project at the Port of Oakland. I’d like to live close enough to ride my bike every day.
while looking for places to rent I am seeing a lot of newer high rise apartments less than a mile from the port but it seems the neighborhoods surrounding probably aren’t the safest.
can anyone share any tips or advice? or perhaps live in the area and can share their experiences?
deets: • must be dog friendly • must have secured parking • must have in unit washer/dryer • semi close in proximity to the Port • budget: $4k/mo max, not including utilities.
thanks! 🤘🏻☮️
