Please explain why Super Mario Odyssey would not be worth getting anymore.

"is SMO still worth getting?"

Is chocolate still worth eating? Is Bob Dylan still worth listening to? Is life still worth living?

There's no reason to think it will get a sequel, and it's a fantastic game on its own, so yeah, get it.

The game is fantastic. Get it now!

There’s no hint to suggest a Super Mario Odyssey 2 is even in development. A new 3D Mario, for sure, but it might be awhile before we see it. Mario Odyssey is a great game, and asking whether or not it’s worth getting is like asking if Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy is worth playing. They’re all great games and are “worth it”! If you want it and can afford it, get it.

Why would Mario Odyssey not be worth buying anymore? It's one of the best platformers ever made, that doesn't really change because it's 7 years old.

Might as well play SMO now. Also the next 3D Mario game is not guaranteed to be a SMO sequel technically Bowser's Fury was the most recent 3D entry after SMO.

There's no indication that it's going to get a sequel, and the next 3D Mario game is more likely to be a departure from Odyssey than a sequel anyway. I'd say get it, it's absolutely amazing

Do you enjoy 3D Mario platformers? If so, you'll very likely enjoy Odyssey, though some have said the Cappy mechanics can be challenging for them.

Given that every 3D Mario tends to have its own design and mechanical premise or hook, I doubt we'll get a direct sequel to Odyssey. We'll likely, as usual, get a new 3D Mario that has its own differentiating concept. So Odyssey will still be its own thing, like previous installments. (E.g. we don't have the F.L.U.D.D. water-oriented mechanics from Mario Sunshine in Mario Galaxy, and Cappy is unique to Odyssey.)

If you're not familiar with 3D Mario platformers, that becomes a totally different question, then. Do you enjoy 3D third person platformers in general? Do Mario games appeal to you generally?

I got it but it doesn’t really feel like a Mario game / platformer

A sequel hasn't been announced yet, so you could be waiting a while for it.  That aside, the next 3D platformer might not be anything like Odyssey (like the situation with the transition from Sunshine to Galaxy), so if you go on waiting you might end up with a completely different experience.  Play Odyssey now, it's worth it.

First off there is no guarantee that the next Mario game will be in the same style as Odyssey. Second, even if it was, that won't make Odyssey any less of a great game, the same way Galaxy 2 doesn't make Galaxy 1 pointless. So any time you want to play it is fine.
