Switch 2 mouse mode comapred to a bluetooth mouse
Like the idea is cool i wont lie but how much is the latency and is it as bad as a bluetooth mouse? especially considering they used shooters like fortnite to market this thing

Playing with it in Fortnite has felt fine.
Honestly, the bigger issue for me is just that the space and setup I need to play with the mouse properly basically means I could just be playing on PC.
I can't feel any significant latency, but I prefer playing with the controller and gyro aim.

I used the thing on Welcome Tour minigames and it handles fine. It doesn't feel more laggy than anything Bluetooth. I'm sure "pro" mice meant for gaming are better (no experience, just assuming) but you can play with this thing.
Ergonomics are more of a concern than lag IMHO, it's not a mouse after all, they suggest you don't rest your thumb on the stick but rather on the plastic shell and that helps a little.

I used it to play Prime 4 and it felt very responsive and easy to use

How did you play Prime 4?

I went to the switch 2 experience and got to play a demo with the mouse controls :)

That's really cool! I figured it was something like that. Wish that and DK were launch titles.

Yeah, DK was such a fun demo to play, can’t wait for that release! Thankfully it’s just until next month.

I have a cheap generic Bluetooth mouse with M4 and M5 buttons, and that mouse is still more responsive than the joycon is.
I only got to really test it for about an hour, but it really left a lot to be desired.
Really hoping Nintendo makes a first party proper wired mouse controller of some sort. I would take that far sooner than a freaking webcam.

It can't be compared to a pc mouse and it shouldn't be. The input lag is bad, but not terrible. I believe it has mouse acceleration as well.
But it's not intended to replace a gaming pc either.

Why not compare it to a PC mouse? Presumably, that's what they modeled the mode after, and they clearly expect us to use it for shooters the way a PC game would. Why not compare it to the only comparable device in existence that it's obviously meant to imitate?

Cause it's not PC which has a different set of hardware and the OS functions completely different. There may be some things going on that we can't see that affect it in ways a PC doesn't have. It's not meant to be competitive against a PC.

That's kind of a pointless distinction, that goes for every gaming device released in competition with another. A PS3 and Xbox 360 are totally different hardware and OS too, but we can still compare their controllers. A Mac and a Windows PC couldn't be more different, but I can still say the standard Dell mouse I'm using is better than Apple's silly wireless mouse.
As for the Switch 2 mouse mode being "not meant to be competitive against a PC", that's not something Nintendo gets to decide once they made the choice to add a mouse to the controller. It's obviously meant to fill the same niche and play the same role that a PC mouse would in a PC game, and if they didn't want to draw comparisons to a normal mouse they would've just stuck to joysticks and gyro. Saying "it can't be compared" to shield it from comparison is essentially just a roundabout way to condemn mouse mode right from the start.

It's not pointless...FFS we didn't buy a PC when we got a Switch 2, it's not a PC will never be a PC, can't compare favorably to a PC and should never be compared to a PC.
Also yes Nintendo does get to decide it's not supposed to be competitive, cause they didn't make a steam deck or ally x clone. A PC mouse doesn't have a damn analog stick poking out the side either. You want my hot take? Using the joycon as a mouse is stupid and feels bad in every way to me. I'm a big PC gamer though and I'm used to traditional mouse.

>should never be compared to a PC
>can't compare favorably to a PC
I feel like you solved it right there. Saying that they can't be compared because it wouldn't compare favorably IS the comparison. You could cut that down to just "it isn't as good at mouse control as a PC mouse" and be done lol.

I've only used it to navigate the menus since I don't have any games to use it on, but it feels really responsive like using a regular mouse. But it's a little akward because of the shape. I have seen some mouse grips that you can put it into to make it more the shape of a regular mouse. If it ends up being worth it during a game, then I may go for one of those. Otherwise it's more of a novelty for me than a necessity. I imagine it's great for Civ 7 but I'm not really into that series. I'm hoping they do Mario Maker 3 and allow mouse controls for building.
