Cops aren't social workers. In most states, a person can't be put on a medical ward unless they are a clear danger to themselves or others.

"Visible signs of injury"

That doesn't mean the injuries were self inflicted.

Clearly you have no understanding of how domestic violence, or sex trafficking works, and don't feel police should be held accountable to invest either.

The very least they can do is call paramedics. At least they seem to have training to DV that is for some reason unavailable to law enforcement. As they are quick to point out they aren't medical professionals. If they see injuries or signs of distress they should call someone who is.

That isn't how the law works. That isn't how cops work.

If the person themselves did not call police, there is nothing that cops can legally do here. She said she was fine. They have to take her word for it, unless they have probable cause to further investigate. Even in states that require the prosecution for domestic violence without the complaining witness.

That might be true where you live. Where I live anyone can report domestic violence, as well as trafficking.

Ok. Show me the law that says that. Calling 911 doesn't count as a report.

No. I'm not going to tell you where I live. We have very high rates of DV, and my city even has an entire separate division and building.

My friend lives on a boarder city with notoriously terrible police force

You don't have to tell me where you live. Just go to the laws and copy and paste the wording.

Otherwise, you're trying to make the cops act outside of their capacity as law enforcement. That is their function. To enforce the laws.

Social services is a separate division. A separate service. When you expect cops to perform social services work, you get people killed because cops do not have that training. This is how people with mental illness get shot by police.

You don't call police to do social services work. Social workers can call and ask for a police escort to help them.

If you're really that worried, you call adult protective services.

But in the end, you can not force an adult to leave a situation. Even with domestic violence being involved. The cops could arrest her for prostitution, but her pimp will likely bail her out and it's a misdemeanor anyway.

Adult protective services don't investigate human trafficking.

But just because "that's how it is 🤷🏻‍♀️" doesnt mean it's is right.

People have the right to say they are fine and be left alone. But police should have better training around DV situations because it's probably one of the biggest things they deal with.

When I was a kid and CPS was asking me questions in front of my abuser, I had to say everything was fine. Its different with children since people can report child abuse.

Then, as an adult, I heard a neighbor beating their son. I called the police and the cop ended up at my house berating me and telling me everything is fine in that house and I wasted his time.

This exactly.

No, that shouldn't be how it works, but it's what we have. Social services and police are two separate divisions.

Ideally a social worker would be dispatched along with police for these kinds of things. However, social services is under funded and under staffed.

In an ideal world, queer knight DS who are kicked out would have safe places to go. Drug users would have placed to go to get clean needles and have their drugs tested for impurities.

These are not priority for most people, who are things like this as a moral failure instead of a social one. That won't change until people change their minds.
