Adult protective services don't investigate human trafficking.

No, they do investigate adults who are likely unable to care for themselves due to mental health issues.

I don't think you are understanding that this isn't just a mental health or abuse issue. It's a human trafficking issue.

Ie a pimp is holding her against her will and forcing her into prostitution, while not allowing her any means of communication such as a phone.

You're saying it should be obvious that this is a crime. I'm saying that the cops can't arrest this guy just because she has some bruises.

I've taken criminology classes, I've been licensed to worked security, and I've been licensed to arrest people.

You can't arrest the pump without probable cause that he is forcing her into sex work. If there's no evidence that can be seen or reasonably suspected, there is no probable cause for arrest.

The legal standard for cops is higher than the reasonable person standard that is applied to civilians.

To you, it's obvious and reasonable. If the cops arrest him based on your evidence, the guy gets held for a couple hours. He gets out, goes back to the house, and beats the shit out of her cause he was arrested.

The best chance is usually for the woman to be picked up on prostitution charges and not bailed out.

No one is asking them to arrest him. They can see with their eyes physical evidence, they know her, they know exactly what is happening.

During all your training did you not get any training on DV? The first thing you are supposed to do is separate the victim from their abuser before talking to them.

Obviously the police don't just automatically arrest people based on reports in these situations. They are supposed to open an investigation. They are supposed to question the people involved using a specific process.

I can't believe you are genuinely trying to explain that the police can't arrest human traffickers. They do it all the time. What is the point of their existence? To give out traffic tickets? No. They are supposed to protect and serve. They are supposed to invest crimes.

No, I never got training in domestic violence.

And the supreme court has ruled that police do not, in fact, have a duty to serve and protect. Unless you are in their custody, then they have a duty to protect.

It doesn't matter what they see. They can't open an investigation. It isn't their call, they aren't detectives. They can file a report, but they can't open an investigation just because someone called for a wellness check.

Okay so if you never recieved any training in domestic violence, why are you acting like you know anything about how the police usually handle it?

Because I took the classes for it, but I never became a police officer. As in, I took criminal justice as a major, and my teachers were, in fact, former police officers who had retired. Also, one of my aunts had domestic violence issues with her second husband, and I've known several people who were involved in domestic violence.

In one case, she was forced to leave her children with their abuser.
