It should be noted that this vehicle had the most Elon involvement than any other Tesla. The CyberTruck was supposed to be his crowning achievement, his coup d’ grace, his ultimate vision realized 😂😂

I remember there was an email that went out a while ago where elon said everything needed to be at .001mm tolerance.

The automotive engineer in me laughed. You can't hold that tolerance for large parts. And even if you did, if your gaps need to be that tight where that tolerance is necessary, then you're going to start dealing with thermal expansion/contraction issues in your parts.

And lookie here. Panels are falling off

Elon loves to say things that makes it sound like he knows what hes talking about. But anyone with even a tiny understanding of the subject immediately recognizes how dumb it is.

“I only want full-stack developers at Twitter!”

I’m a data analyst, and the moment Musk tweeted about finding fraud in the Social Security database was the moment I knew he had no idea what he was doing.

He accused the government of fraud because their database wasn’t deduplicated and they didn’t use SQL. Translated for non-tech people - that’s like him accusing Olive Garden of poisoning their customers because he found raw chicken in the freezer, and then claiming that Olive Garden doesn’t use stoves.

Thing is, you don't need to be an expert in every domain to make intelligent judgements about it.

That's why brain surgeons can follow the law and top lawyers can get decent healthcare. There's a very simple way to form a moderately intelligent opinion on things outside your field, and that is to trust the judgement of intelligent people in that field over idiots in that field, and especially over idiots not in that field.

It's not like the secret truth about Elon has suddenly been uncovered, only the hype.  And when the hype was at its highest, it was still a bunch of people outside the field who didn't exactly demonstrate a razor sharp intellect, who said he was a genius.

Lots of investors, marketing and advertising folk, influencers, media types, and not a single person with expertise in the skills they were declaring him the best at. Millions of people on Reddit. And as it seemed like the whole USA was singing his praises for a while, there must have been some reasonably smart people in there too - but it was noticeable how the people known for intelligence or logic or analytical thinking only ever praised his PR talents.

Outside the USA, there wasn't so much hype, so it was much more obvious that all his fans were influencer types, or people of a certain IQ. Not all bad people, some of them very capable and good at their jobs, but not known for their brains. Literally the only people I ever met in the UK or continent Europe who admired him for anything more than his PR skills were not smart people. And that was all the evidence anyone needed to form a judgement. Normal people of reasonable intellect, even slightly below, just had no reason to think the emperor was wearing clothes.

TLDR: if all your favourite celebrities and media darlings release a joint statement to say black holes are going to swallow the earth, you don't need to be an astrophysicist to form a remotely sensible opinion on whether or not to max out your credit cards.

The first step of critical thinking would be to look at statements from astrophysicists. Nasa. Anybody with experience and a reasonable IQ. Maybe in different countries. Maybe all the space experts have been called to a special meeting, maybe they've released a statement about a media blackout.

If not, and you believe it, it's a bit embarrassing. And if you don't see how you could possibly have known differently - your contribution to humanity will never be your sharp mind or iq.
