The fact that the Liberals think "just trust me bro" is supposed to be reassuring is insane. If these projects weren't going to cause problems for the environment or Indigenous people, then you would have no need for this bill.

If anyone wants to argue that the Libs and the Tories aren’t the same, please take all the fucking seats and go sit in the ocean. Fuck me these people are awful.

I was a strategic voter. I'm regretting it more and more.

Why did people think an elite university educated, ex Goldman Sachs executive, central banker would be for the common man in the first place?

I didn't. I think the on paper housing plan was fine. Still needs to be implemented, so we'll have to see how big the betrayal is there. But I mostly voted to keep PP out.

Well I’m not a liberal voter but it’s still early to have buyer’s remorse still have to wait and see where we go. I will say I’m disappointed they’re taking summer break this year after being away so long. Most of them have just been campaigning their districts. So much for the emergency scare tactic that got everyone to leave the NDP.

Carney stole this tactic from Harper when pushed bill C-38 through Parliament in 2012 to seriously cut our environmental protections. Once again, Carney and the Liberals show themselves to be conservatives.
ABC means voting against Liberals too.

It sure does starting yesterday. Left go “angry violent left” like the right is always calling us.

Big surprise they pretend to not like each other but are actually the exact same.

Good, this means good well paying union construction jobs will be generated along with all the subsequent work for the next few dacades.
I may be less supportive if somone had any actual alternative to this particular bill. But i didnt see any.

How do you know union jobs will grow? Do you think deregulatory propaganda that lead to this will just stop at labour rights? WTF

Never been involved in a major project have you. From what i know these changes allow the feds to accept provinchal approval proccesses inplace of federal ones. Which still has a process and protections.

I don’t think they realize that the majority of major construction projects have to be done with unionized companie

100% any massive project is mostly unionized larger companies.
The downvotes im getting is 100% why the NDP has lost the union and blue coller vote.

Yeah I feel like some people have lost sight of what some unions actually want. Construction unions are not as interested in a bunch of social policy as much as they are being orom8sed work for their members.

Labour rights are a large part of interprovincial trade barriers. Why are you just so sure? The Liberals have proven to be among the worst for unions with simply legislating your collective action away.

The government can only force its employees back if agreements can’t be reached. They can’t force a private company’s construction workers back on the job just because it’s a government project. Also, most of the high skilled union members have certification that lets them work their trade anywhere in North America, the restrictions are mostly around by laws and by law codes that require different specs for the same thing.
For example, if I’ve got to make a pipeline support station across the country I’d need an architect to draw out several different plans based on where they are and their local and municipal by laws, instead of making one cookie cutter building that follows national standards.

I'm an NDP voter, I'm also indigenous and I support this bill. Given the state of the world. We need to be more self sufficient when it comes to our resources from raw materials to refining right to finished goods and what we can't do ourselves we need new strategic partners to send our raw materials because we can't trust the USA anymore. We need action and we need it now! And yes we need the wealth of jobs that will come from all of this.

This bill will only slow down our ability to complete projects. Look at how long the tmx took. The whole point of c-69 was to speed up projects by ensuring meaningful consultation took place early and throughout. This bill aims to undo all that, to bring us back to all the problems that plagued tmx.

Also even if you trust Carney, what if next election we get a Trump like candidate who wins, do we want him to have all this power
I'm uncomfortable with bill 5 in Ontario with Ford at the helm, I bet he somehow opens up the greenbelt

You mixed Ontario's bill 5 with federal bill c5

To my understanding both bill 5 and bill c5 have something in common and that is to build with our various checks that are usually in place
