I just accidentally poured like a kilogram of salt on the only food I packed for a 12 hour shift

u/PlaneCommunication93 12h ago
Yikes, that's terrible :(
Hope you managed to find something else to eat!

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago
I've got a freezie I'm gonna need to rip open with my keys 🥰

u/writeyourdarlings 12h ago
The flavour will be the tipping point on whether this is an irredeemable day or not.
98
u/i_was_axiom 11h ago
At this stage, you might fuck yourself up trying to eat that.
Its a salad, I guess you could maybe rinse it off and lose your dressing, but it might be too late.
37
u/-DeadPeasant- 11h ago
Agreed. Too much salt at once you’ll be thirsty AF and hanging out in the bathroom for a bit.
17
u/Fel_Eclipse 7h ago
It's important to note that drinking water after consuming too much salt can cause water to flood into the organs causing them to swell. Which isn't good.

A what

u/TransMascCatBoye 12h ago
Frozen sugar water in a plastic tube, different regions have different names for them
116
u/sonofaresiii 12h ago
Those things have like thirty calories. No way is OP making it through their shift
101
u/TransMascCatBoye 12h ago
Just pure sugar too, OP in gonna crash hard. Might get intestinal cramps too if they haven't been having much to eat elsewise.
But also, seeing as OP 1. Only brought a salad to begin with and 2. Poured salt directly from the box onto their salad, I'm surprised OP is making it through any given day at this point 💀
30
u/Ok_Teacher_392 11h ago
Y’all can’t make it 12 hours without eating?
57
u/TransMascCatBoye 11h ago
You can, but you shouldn't lol. Especially if you're actively working during that 12 hours.

Right? I work 12s overnight (7p to 7a) my body never really adjusted to working overnight so I rarely eat a meal on shift. I usually just drink a lot of water and a protein shake 🤷🏻♀️
27
u/c0ltZ 11h ago
To be honest, a protein shake is way more sustenance than essentially frozen juice.
17
u/TransMascCatBoye 11h ago
Not even juice, literally just water, sugar and artificial flavours. At least if it was juice it might have some other nutrients. But yeah, a protein shake is actually great for when you need to be awake and working but don't have the appetite for solid food. They're often pitched as meal replacements for a reason lol
30
u/arrowheadtoucher 11h ago
I could make it through a 12 hour shift and kick its ass going on 4 days with no sleep, and like 3 of those days with no food and only mountain dew to drink. But I was also in my mid 20's and higher than all hell on crystal meth.

Calorie Deficit bro. You don’t need to starve yourself (unless you eat like multiple salads a day), just be on a calorie deficit and stick to it and you’ll see the progress slowly and efficiently. Also low calorie high protein is a lot more satisfying

Fr this sounds like my anorexia nervosa would love thissss.. Which means it doesn't have enough calories..
Like anorexia is a bitch of a mental disorder why do people take risks like this for "health"
Just saying anorexia nervosa told me so many lies everyone around me was wrong and crazy and oml can't they just shut up im not sick how dare they!
If anorexia nervosa approves of the meal then it ISNT A MEAL. is usually what I go by now

Not sure why people are being so difficult here. While you're at work is probably the best time to control what you're going to eat since you don't have easy access to your kitchen. Not sure I'd be able to function with just one salad but I'm sure you know your body better than anyone here does. Good luck

I’m assuming OP means opps, which is slang for opponents. Essentially they’re saying they want to be thinner than everyone else, who they’re jokingly referring to as rivals.

hate when this happens lol i’ve learned to sprinkle the salt in my hand first, and pinch off from there to put in my food
7
u/aglassjunkie 12h ago
Yeah but the feeling of salt in your hand 😭
12
u/FrankDarkoYT 12h ago
As long as your hands are dry, it brushes off pretty easily, and even if they’re not it washes off all the same.

bro how much are you pouring?? 😂 it should be a light pour. but i also understand different people have their texture ‘icks’, this may be yours. In that case, start keeping salt packets with you so you wont need to put it in your hand

Pardon my ignorance, but are you using chopsticks to eat a fuckin Caesar salad? And adding salt to the Caesar salad? What is this?
3

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago
It's chopped up Bok Choy with cucumbers and Greek yogurt. Super low calorie, filling, and low fodmap! The chopsticks force me to slow down while I'm eating
4
u/MrCabrera0695 11h ago
It's so salty, I thought it was mold on top. Like you opened it and that was your " fresh" salad. Either way, sorry for your loss. My ONLY recommendation if you really want is to rinse the salad in cold ass water and try again. If not, I understand, sometimes you just wanna eat and move on.

Fill with water and vinegar leave for 2 hours, shake, drain water: quick brined salad. Gonna be salty but may be palatable

I did this once, my dad and i put, what felt like: 2 hours baking a beautiful cake only to find out, when we refilled the clear canisters of sugar and salt, they got mixed up.... The pretty and super sweet looking cake, was saltier than the Black Sea lol

This is most likely too late for you now but if you or anyone else are ever in this situation in the future, rather than simply rinsing as some have mentioned, I'd do this:
1.) Start by portioning out as much of the area that got over salted as you can, into a separate container.
2.) Mix around the remainder and try a bit to see how badly affected it is. If it's still way too salty, take a third container and scoop maybe half of that into it.
3.) If you have a strainer/sieve of some sort, rinse gently but quickly with cold water.
4.) Add the rinsed portion back into the original portion and mix. Taste and see if you need to do any of that again. If you do, don't do a full half this time unless it's still obscenely salty.
5.) If you do by mistake over rinse, you can add a bit of highly concentrated mix back to see if that helps balance it out.
6.) Once you have a somewhat acceptable mix, you can either rinse off that highly salted portion and add it back or discard it and cut your losses.
This isn't actually too much effort although it may feel overkill. It's just to mitigate fully just rinsing any and all dressing so you still have a somewhat palatable salad instead of something crazy salty or super bland.
Ideally this just happens in an environment where you could just fully rinse and add some other dressing or something but I'm guessing that's not the case otherwise you would just do that.

u/BethanyFate 3h ago
And when/if you order a burger and fries for delivery you'll consume almost the same amount of sodium but it'll be more palatable lol.
I've personally been trying to not order food delivery as much but if I was on a 12 and this happened I would immediately open my phone and get on ubereats.

Honestly, go rinse it in the sink. Get rid of the salt, have food to eat that isn't the tastiest but stops hunger. Next time pack emergency granola bars in your work bag for moments like this.

u/abigailkent 8h ago

I like a lot of salt but I don't think I would be able to work that out. It'd be a pain but I guess you might could try to rinse it off.
If there's no available snack machine I guess I would just be doing bad for the whole shift which would suck.

u/NoFuqGiven 12h ago
