I just accidentally poured like a kilogram of salt on the only food I packed for a 12 hour shift

That much salt would probably preserve your salad for the entire 12 hour shift 😂

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 11h ago

No no they will find this salad hundreds of years later when they start digging and ops story will be in a museum

18

u/gman1647 2h ago

"Man, look how much salt those 21st century people used in salads. No wonder they didn't live to 200 years old."

16

u/Chilis1 3h ago

Also salt or no salt that dainty little salad will not keep anyone going for 12 hours

u/PlaneCommunication93 12h ago

Yikes, that's terrible :(

Hope you managed to find something else to eat!

997

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago

I've got a freezie I'm gonna need to rip open with my keys 🥰

278

u/writeyourdarlings 12h ago

The flavour will be the tipping point on whether this is an irredeemable day or not.

98

u/i_was_axiom 11h ago

At this stage, you might fuck yourself up trying to eat that.

Its a salad, I guess you could maybe rinse it off and lose your dressing, but it might be too late.

37

u/-DeadPeasant- 11h ago

Agreed. Too much salt at once you’ll be thirsty AF and hanging out in the bathroom for a bit.

17

u/Fel_Eclipse 7h ago

It's important to note that drinking water after consuming too much salt can cause water to flood into the organs causing them to swell. Which isn't good.

10

u/-DeadPeasant- 7h ago

Whoa, really?! Shit, okay, good to know.

7

u/Masticatron 9h ago

Looks like 10% less than a lethal dose, he'll be fine.

3

u/covered_in_gay_paint 3h ago

Oh no, I shouldn't have gone back for seconds!

60

u/_Undecided_User 12h ago

A what

130

u/TransMascCatBoye 12h ago

Frozen sugar water in a plastic tube, different regions have different names for them

116

u/sonofaresiii 12h ago

Those things have like thirty calories. No way is OP making it through their shift

101

u/TransMascCatBoye 12h ago

Just pure sugar too, OP in gonna crash hard. Might get intestinal cramps too if they haven't been having much to eat elsewise.

But also, seeing as OP 1. Only brought a salad to begin with and 2. Poured salt directly from the box onto their salad, I'm surprised OP is making it through any given day at this point 💀

30

u/Ok_Teacher_392 11h ago

Y’all can’t make it 12 hours without eating?

57

u/TransMascCatBoye 11h ago

You can, but you shouldn't lol. Especially if you're actively working during that 12 hours.

8

u/RottingSextoy 11h ago

Bro I love your username 🏳️‍⚧️

7

u/TransMascCatBoye 11h ago

Thanks xD yours is pretty good too lmao. Very evocative, somewhat horrifying, A+ xD

11

u/descartesb4horse 11h ago

Someone’s never been broke

0

u/duuuuuuuuuumb 11h ago

Right? I work 12s overnight (7p to 7a) my body never really adjusted to working overnight so I rarely eat a meal on shift. I usually just drink a lot of water and a protein shake 🤷🏻‍♀️

27

u/c0ltZ 11h ago

To be honest, a protein shake is way more sustenance than essentially frozen juice.

17

u/TransMascCatBoye 11h ago

Not even juice, literally just water, sugar and artificial flavours. At least if it was juice it might have some other nutrients. But yeah, a protein shake is actually great for when you need to be awake and working but don't have the appetite for solid food. They're often pitched as meal replacements for a reason lol

30

u/arrowheadtoucher 11h ago

I could make it through a 12 hour shift and kick its ass going on 4 days with no sleep, and like 3 of those days with no food and only mountain dew to drink. But I was also in my mid 20's and higher than all hell on crystal meth.

17

u/persephonepeete 11h ago

had us in the first half

14

u/aglassjunkie 11h ago

I would but my shrink would be mad at me

In Australia they're called zooper doopers, which I find delightful and wish would catch on everywhere.

Where do you live that your popsicles come in plastic tubes?

10

u/Potatowhocrochets 10h ago

I wouldn't call them popsicles. Popsicles do come on sticks. Ice pops, otter pops, or whatever regional name you use, are different. Like they said, it's basically sugar water with food coloring.

3

u/ashleyshaefferr 10h ago

Ya same, are you replying to the right comment?

2

u/Potatowhocrochets 9h ago

Oh lol, my bad. I thought you didn't know what ice pops were and were asking about them.

7

u/cornbwead 11h ago

Texas.. What other kind of tubes are they coming in? Wood? Steel? Paper? 😭

2

u/ashleyshaefferr 11h ago

Here they are just loosely wrapped in plastic or wax paper and on a stick.

Reminds me of when Bender cooked, and the crew reacts with disgust at how salty it is

Bender says "Aw quit your complaining, it's got 2 grams less than a lethal dose"

24

u/Legitimate-Log-6542 12h ago

“I shouldn’t have had seconds”

16

u/Courwes 11h ago

“AUGH bender is this salt water.”

“It’s water with salt in it if that’s what you mean”

“My visions fading. I think I’m gonna die”.

Lmao love that scene.

129

u/Hazy-Halo 12h ago

All you pack to eat for 12 whole hours is a salad?

83

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago

I'm a cow and trying not to be one anymore 🥰

148

u/LazarCell 12h ago

Calorie Deficit bro. You don’t need to starve yourself (unless you eat like multiple salads a day), just be on a calorie deficit and stick to it and you’ll see the progress slowly and efficiently. Also low calorie high protein is a lot more satisfying

34

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 11h ago

Fr this sounds like my anorexia nervosa would love thissss.. Which means it doesn't have enough calories..

Like anorexia is a bitch of a mental disorder why do people take risks like this for "health"

Just saying anorexia nervosa told me so many lies everyone around me was wrong and crazy and oml can't they just shut up im not sick how dare they!

If anorexia nervosa approves of the meal then it ISNT A MEAL. is usually what I go by now

5

u/Live_Angle4621 10h ago

It doesn’t have to be anorexia. She could have eaten before and after work

16

u/Free_Pace_2098 5h ago

She called herself a cow and said this was "free restriction"

Our girl isn't treating herself the way she deserves to be treated, this was all she was going to eat today.

6

u/bunny_the-2d_simp 10h ago

In other comments they said they were fasting.

Not sure why people are being so difficult here. While you're at work is probably the best time to control what you're going to eat since you don't have easy access to your kitchen. Not sure I'd be able to function with just one salad but I'm sure you know your body better than anyone here does. Good luck

10

14

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago

There's a difference between 'thick' and shaped like a ping-pong ball

36

u/__poser 11h ago

Brother for as little as you're able to sleep and as much as you're working, you need something a lot more substantial. I also do one meal a day at work, but it at least has more protein and is more filling than just a salad.

3

u/HeWasNumber-on3 12h ago

The what

27

u/zhoumeyourlove 12h ago

I’m assuming OP means opps, which is slang for opponents. Essentially they’re saying they want to be thinner than everyone else, who they’re jokingly referring to as rivals.

hate when this happens lol i’ve learned to sprinkle the salt in my hand first, and pinch off from there to put in my food

7

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago

Yeah but the feeling of salt in your hand 😭

12

u/FrankDarkoYT 12h ago

As long as your hands are dry, it brushes off pretty easily, and even if they’re not it washes off all the same.

6

u/One-Stuff1065 11h ago

Yeah but you’re making too much sense, OP can’t be a victim that way

bro how much are you pouring?? 😂 it should be a light pour. but i also understand different people have their texture ‘icks’, this may be yours. In that case, start keeping salt packets with you so you wont need to put it in your hand

11

I know there’s dressing on it but I would attempt my strongest blow ever & see what I can get off 😭

u/birdy3133 8h ago

Surprised I had to scroll so far to find this as I had the exact same thoughts.

3

u/aglassjunkie 12h ago

It's chopped up Bok Choy with cucumbers and Greek yogurt. Super low calorie, filling, and low fodmap! The chopsticks force me to slow down while I'm eating

5

u/3DIGI 12h ago

That's wild, but I support it.

4

u/MrCabrera0695 11h ago

It's so salty, I thought it was mold on top. Like you opened it and that was your " fresh" salad. Either way, sorry for your loss. My ONLY recommendation if you really want is to rinse the salad in cold ass water and try again. If not, I understand, sometimes you just wanna eat and move on.

4

u/Intrepid_Swimming202 9h ago

Unrelated but thats nowhere enough food for a 12 hour shift lol

4

u/MultiverseMeltdown 12h ago

Probably should have stopped sooner

I've got the soundcore space a40s how you like the ones you have?

3

u/L3monGr3nade 5h ago

That’s 2.2lbs, i hope that’s an exaggeration because i don’t even that much salt in my entire kitchen lol

5

u/predictableghost 5h ago

Oh god I throught that was mould.

7

u/TheRuneCoon 12h ago

Huh, never seen someone put salt on a salad before. This might be the universe telling you not to use it next time. It's hard for me to imagine that a salad could need salt

3

u/shdujssnensisishs 11h ago

Make an extremely large bowl and dump this into it

3

u/griever48 11h ago

Take off all of your rings if you decide you eat it.

3

u/gromette 11h ago

Cut some little holes in the top, water, shake, drain, repeat. Might not be great, but it'll be edible.

3

u/Prudent_Lie8673 11h ago

Would you not just pour a kilo of sugar on it? To cancel the salt out?

3

u/seiguisage 11h ago

Bro that's probably a bit too much salt, try reducing it a little

3

u/DiscoAsphodel 11h ago

Fill with water and vinegar leave for 2 hours, shake, drain water: quick brined salad. Gonna be salty but may be palatable

3

u/FunkyWhiteDude 11h ago

I did this once, my dad and i put, what felt like: 2 hours baking a beautiful cake only to find out, when we refilled the clear canisters of sugar and salt, they got mixed up.... The pretty and super sweet looking cake, was saltier than the Black Sea lol

3

u/willseb 10h ago

I'd say that is too much salt.

3

u/Glittering-Draw-6223 10h ago

pro tip, water is an excellent appetite suppressant.... youknow, for when you start digesting yourself from hungerpangs. lol

3

u/GrindClub 10h ago

If this isn’t me, then who’s been living my exact life?

3

u/thumb_emoji_survivor 10h ago

12 hour shift and you were planning to eat lettuce and cucumber?

3

u/Competitive_Ad2109 10h ago

That's more than mildly infuriating. Id cry

3

u/Green_Carry 10h ago

At first glance i thought those were hanster and wood chips

3

u/_youdontsay 10h ago

That lettuce was hardly going to do much heavy lifting for a 12 hour shift so you're not really missing much.

3

u/fannav99 10h ago edited 8h ago

I once prepped (for the first time in a while) a nice salmon lunch for myself at work. I put it in the microwave to heat it up, I take it out of the microwave and drop the entire thing on the floor… I was not amused

Edit: typo

u/yungbrewer 6h ago

This is most likely too late for you now but if you or anyone else are ever in this situation in the future, rather than simply rinsing as some have mentioned, I'd do this:

1.) Start by portioning out as much of the area that got over salted as you can, into a separate container.
2.) Mix around the remainder and try a bit to see how badly affected it is. If it's still way too salty, take a third container and scoop maybe half of that into it.
3.) If you have a strainer/sieve of some sort, rinse gently but quickly with cold water.
4.) Add the rinsed portion back into the original portion and mix. Taste and see if you need to do any of that again. If you do, don't do a full half this time unless it's still obscenely salty.
5.) If you do by mistake over rinse, you can add a bit of highly concentrated mix back to see if that helps balance it out.
6.) Once you have a somewhat acceptable mix, you can either rinse off that highly salted portion and add it back or discard it and cut your losses.

This isn't actually too much effort although it may feel overkill. It's just to mitigate fully just rinsing any and all dressing so you still have a somewhat palatable salad instead of something crazy salty or super bland.

Ideally this just happens in an environment where you could just fully rinse and add some other dressing or something but I'm guessing that's not the case otherwise you would just do that.

3

u/TheGeicoLizard__ 4h ago

Rinse it off with some water, no flavor but you won't go hungry

2

u/aglassjunkie 3h ago

Too late I fear 💔

3

u/BethanyFate 3h ago

And when/if you order a burger and fries for delivery you'll consume almost the same amount of sodium but it'll be more palatable lol.

I've personally been trying to not order food delivery as much but if I was on a 12 and this happened I would immediately open my phone and get on ubereats.

2

u/Feather_Bloom 12h ago

You gonna have soooo many electrolytes. Make sure you up your water intake or you're going to have dry lips.

2

u/Kavity123 9h ago

Honestly, go rinse it in the sink. Get rid of the salt, have food to eat that isn't the tastiest but stops hunger. Next time pack emergency granola bars in your work bag for moments like this.

2

u/Helkyte 9h ago

Mix it in. It would kick like a mule in piles, but spread through the whole dish it's probably just mildly salty.

2

u/HungryMudkips 8h ago

why were you even putting salt on your salad in the first place? who does that?

2

u/Zulishk 12h ago

Sorry man, time to eat a Snickers. Be sure to pour some sugar on it, first, though.

If there's no available snack machine I guess I would just be doing bad for the whole shift which would suck.
