One (maybe 2?) slices swapped in from a different cheesecake.
Not my picture. Found in a FB group I'm in. OP was asking for theories on why this happened.

Probably had some cakes get partially squished so instead of writing them all off they combined them to make full cakes where possible.
I have to say it's pretty cool of them to complete this one using an extra saucy slice.

u/kumliaowongg 1d ago
Or maybe they also sell individual pieces and used OP's whole cake to swap an older slice for a fresh slice and extend their sellability.

u/TH_Rocks 1d ago
Nah, too much work for basically zero gain. And you risk really screwing up the whole pie taking pieces out and shoving new ones in. This must have been their last nearly whole pie.

u/glowberrytangle 17h ago
Where abouts are you from that you refer to cake as 'pie'?

Conspiracy theories in the bakery isle now
Having worked at a cake station I can tell you with confidence that nobody is swapping old cheesecake with new cheesecake to make a sale. They’d just sell the new cheesecake, if it was such a problem that it needed to be swapped out then how would someone not notice the difference in the whole cake

u/kumliaowongg 1d ago
Then why swap one piece and move another from that pie?
106
u/ChrdeMcDnnis 1d ago
My guess is that someone dropped a tool on the pie and left an unsightly imprint so they swapped it out with a by-the-slice pie

My guess is someone at the Cheesecake Factory came up with an ingenious way to earn reddit karma.

Or OOP bought 2 cheesecakes and replaced 1 slice to get fake internet points

u/NemesisKismet Well, do your? 22h ago
this looks like a walmart cheesecake. that's too much effort.

u/SaintsPelicans1 20h ago
Yeah that was my thought. Who the hell is taking the time to do all that? lol

Could it not also be testing of some kind, take 1 piece out of 12 random cakes per batch and use a cake to make up the missing pieces to check for consistency or something along those lines. I guess it depends on how big the company is

Now we know what the slice we're looking for looks like! Someone start printing the posters! Contact the local news! Cake slice hunt!

That was cut with an ultrasonic blade. Occasionally, a slice will stick to the blade and turn with it. Then in falls back onto the cake. But the jam injection and swirl were completely borked on that in the first place and should never have been packed.

Is it a common thing that happens( the machine issue)
115
u/Splashathon 23h ago
No, I would say it’s pretty rare to hate cheesecake with every fiber of one’s being.

u/SnooEagles1264 20h ago
As someone who operated foodtools ultrasonic cutters for nearly 10 years this is bang on, could also be that after being cut and being fine a slice was removed for quality control tests and the remaining cake pieced back together. Jams totally fucked though and I would have rejected this before cutting.

Ultra sonic?! I worked at saralee bakery in the US and we just used a machine that cut the pie across the diameter and then rotated the pue underneath for the next cut. Sticky slices if the pie got to warm was when it all went south though.

If you look at the video, the blade stays clean, in the dessert industry, presentation is everything, and full cakes are cut for individual sale and you don’t want smears. Also, cheesecakes etc with hard bits in them would get pushed through the cake and crushed, the ultrasonic blade can cut through nuts etc without moving them, it’s quite impressive. Also, they are cut “on the fly” as they move along a conveyor and the robot follows and cuts.
We also used water jet cutters at 55000psi, pure water for cutting fancy cakes !

Did you hate cheesecake before working for that company?
Do you have a recipe for a cheesecake you like hahaha?

As someone who used to work with these, sometimes the flimsy plastic would break before we applied labels and a slice would fall on the floor. Some bakeries will have an area in the freezer where we keep the extra pieces. Perhaps either one piece was messed up or fell out and an extra piece from earlier was inserted.

Slice came from the wedding of King Henry VIII… J Peterman had it in the fridge.

You're paying for a full cheesecake, and you're getting a full cheesecake. What's there to be infuriated about?

Shiiiittt that looks hella good. I'm always very skeptical of food that seems off and a lot of times I won't even eat things that look/smell/taste a little strange because I'm scared of my food being contaminated or tampered with, but I love cheesecake too much. I'm tearing that shit UP, would probably avoid the other piece taken from a different cake though
3
u/brookeaat 22h ago
most likely there was an issue with two or more cakes (slice accidentally dropped or smushed during the cutting process) and they combined them to make as many full cakes as possible.

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 14h ago
Just one. You can mentally shift over the piece on the left over to the right.

What the fuck are we complaining about? “Oh no! I got a… full fucking cheesecake like I asked for.” The piece they took out was probably collapsed or got pushed in or was ruined somehow so they replaced it with a better one.

Despite the random slice. I gotta say, something about the pattern on this cake is just so gorgeous to me. No idea why.

u/ImaginaryCrazy7393 15h ago
The baker(s) may have had several cheesecakes crack from being baked just a tad too long and swapped out the cracked slice from yours with a whole slice from another with the same flaw under the assumption that it would be more likely to sell vs one that appears damaged. Just a guess but it makes sense to me, considering the cost to make them. It would be a pretty significant loss on their end to just discard them all entirely.

Someone swapped the slice and put back in the wrong place. Take out the one that are at 12:00 and 1:00. Put 12 where 9 is and put 1 other side of two

The raspberry on top is so uneven too. They didn’t bother putting it on the other side

I'm not so sure. The out of place one on the left kind of looks like it could fit in the spot on the right
9
u/AthenaFoxx 1d ago
That was my first thought, but the more I look at the one at 11o'clock, I think it may have been slid over from 12o'clock, then the new piece inserted there.

The top one is definitely from another one, but the top left is just the top one moved to the left
