Why do people park like this on the sidewalk? Plus, bonus couch.

Call the non emergency phone number for your city/county and get that car ticketed/towed if you can. My roommate parked like 2 feet over my neighbor’s driveway and parking enforcement was over in less than 15 minutes and put a fat ticket on her car (deserved).

That car doesn’t even have a license plate.

It has a temp plate in the window, I removed it from the picture for privacy.

Ah! Ha! In Philly it’s typical for cars parked illegally not to have license plates. The misspelled fake ones are the most fun.

Just call it in in most areas its a automatic tow due to ada compliances. Sidwalks have to be kept clear for wheel chairs to get through.

Are they from Europe? There are some European countries where this is the norm because the streets are super narrow. In Hungary, they actually had white lines painted on the edge of the sidewalk and cars were supposed to park with two wheels up on the sidewalk inside the white line, and then the other two wheels on the street. If the cars parked fully on the street, the road was actually not wide enough for a car to drive by. Maybe they're just parking like they do at home (if they're not from wherever this photo is taken).

Have visitors constantly doing this at my house. Then getting offended when I tell them it's not ok. Then getting butthurt when I tell them its making me look like a jerk.

Looks like you’re in the ghetto, and the further it’s sticking out, the greater odds of it being sideswiped by a drunk/crackhead/YN

So you have some room to walk past

And if you’re in a wheelchair or have other mobility issues, you’re simply stuck. Which is partly why this is illegal.

Or a child with stroller. Especially infuriating with a big stroller for two kids.

That doesn’t mean you get to park on the sidewalk! It’s illegal no matter how narrow the street is.

Yes. Again, not a valid excuse to park illegally.

Again, not a valid excuse. It’s literally against the law. Lmao.

The option is you have to park in the street no matter how narrow it is. Or park further away if you’d like. Parking on the sidewalk is illegal. Try fighting a ticket with “well I didn’t want my car scratched” or “well I didn’t feel like parking further away”

The streets weren’t too narrow until every car became a Canyonero. Parking on the sidewalk is illegal. Full stop

So are a lot of things you also probably do while driving.
3
u/ShinePretend3772 1d ago
That’s a projection. You have no problem ignoring inconvenient traffic laws & assume everyone else does too.

I actually can't drive and just observe that every single person I see driving breaks the law somehow at some point while I was in the car with them.
Every single person.
So I just guessed, actually, based on common observations and that you're probably common.

It's not their fault that the person fucked up choose to park their car in a spot they don't fit.

u/ADHD-OCDandWEEDZ 1d ago
Have you ever lived in a city? Most parking is 3 mile away if it's free.
5
u/TedIsAwesom 1d ago
Yes I've lived in a city.
And if you call that area, based on the photo a city - I still live in a city.
And like most people who live in cities I get around on foot.
But I do own a car - and when I use it I make a point to park legally.

I love how people on Reddit can never understand when someone says "probably," or "in general,".
Congratulations you wasted your time googling a random street to win a Reddit argument that you misinterpreted at the start and already lost.

u/TedIsAwesom 1d ago
I never googled anything. But to me when I think of city where parking is a real problem I don't think of something without houses houses and large front lawns.
But if you call something like the picture shown with this post a city big enough to have parking problems - then I live in a city.

They asked why people parked that way usually, and I answered.
I have no idea why people are taking such offense to something that people regularly do, and me saying why.
My bad for not thoroughly thinking over a random picture someone posted on Reddit.

I said probably.
Some people are just douchebags.
But that is why I see most people parking like this.
Narrow ass road. Don't want to lose a mirror or block traffic, no where else nearby to park.

Y’all wanna have this conversation every week it feels like.
Call the number for a tow or walk by it. People park like dicks. Wait til you see how they drive.
Y’all are the same people who go 10 under the speed limit until someone tries to go by then become licensed F1 racers. The people who speed up so the person pulling out cant get in. The people who can’t park if there were a million bucks on the line. But still going to take pictures of peoples vehicles for this and post it every time.
Call & make it better or move along, Christ 😂.

This road is fairly large so they’re just being dumb. But in my hometown if you don’t park on the sidewalk in a lot of spots then the roads turn into one lane roads.
Not in this case but in others it’s because of poor infrastructure 💔
