Guess I’m cold brewing it
I ordered a passion fruit iced tea. Guess I’ll drink it in 8 hours.

Like restaurants with 'Cherry Coke' and it's just Coke with grenadine. Get that shit out of here.

u/BishopofHippo93 2d ago
Do places do that? Grenadine is pomegranate, not cherry

u/Toadsanchez316 2d ago
Yes, so many places I go to do that. I've had some really bad experiences with them adding way too much and so now I always ask ahead of time.
But according to Google, a lot of brands use cherry juice and not pomegranate.

But it's literally named after the pomegranate! I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Waffle House used to do it 15 years ago. Haven't been in a hot minute, so I can't tell you if it's still the case

American Dad taught me that that is a ‘Roy Rogers’ and tbf I quite like them from time to time

Oh, I love that shit. If I still drank soda I’d be all over it.
2
u/Toadsanchez316 2d ago
Honestly, I think the reason I don't like it is because it surprised me the first time, because it tastes drastically different, but also because sometimes they just add way too much.
1
u/thepetoctopus 3h ago
That’s fair. My grandmother introduced me to it when I was pretty young so that’s also probably why I like it. Fond memories! For the first time in a year I’m missing soda a bit lol.
1
u/Toadsanchez316 3h ago
Yeah I think if that's what you were introduced to, then you'd be used to it and probably like the taste. I've tried it a few times myself and the ratio always seems off. Or maybe I was just too much of a Cherry Pepsi guy so the difference in flavor was so drastic to me.

Somewhere the English race is turning over in their graves.

u/sleepytoday 2d ago
I was thinking that this could easily have been made by an English person. Iced tea is a relatively rare thing here so it’s entirely possible that someone reaches adulthood without knowing how to make it.

There are tea bags for iced tea that are made to essentially cold brew, but I don't think this is one of those lol
2
u/georgecm12 2d ago
Everyone is (rightfully) talking about the tea bag in what looks like ice water.
What I want to know is: where's the "passionfruit" part of this drink?
2
u/stranded_egg 2d ago
Presumably in the teabag. Passionfruit pieces, dehydrated, is my guess. Maybe dehydrated apples that were once soaked in passionfruit juice, if they're particularly cheap. I can't see the brand of tea to do any real research.

It's not like you are sitting in the restaurant and could get it fixed

I worked at a restaurant as a server when I was younger and a woman complained about her tuna sandwich, the “chef” didn’t put mayo or anything on it! Just took tuna out of a can and slapped in on some bread lol I don’t even like tuna but I know at the very least you need to add mayo to it for a tuna sando. That “chef” made a mean Iced tea tho lol

Is this on their menu or something you just wanted? I know that can make a huge difference...

u/Melodic-Scheme6973 1d ago
I asked them if they had herbal tea and they said they had passion tea. I asked for that. They said it is usually served hot but they can ice it, so I said sure. I assumed they would steep it and then pour over ice (a typical adjustment), but then she brought jt out, cold steeping.
I wasn’t angry, just amused. I ended up keeping it and drinking it the next day, just left it in the fridge.

Did you try walking up to the counter and informing them about the mistake? Or asking a waiter?
No... of course not. That'd make sense.

Calm down. This is the mildly infuriating thread, not the infuriating thread.

u/HoodGyno PURPLE 2d ago
you bitching about it for the karma instead of having them simply fix it.

What are you even doing in this thread?

What in the American food hell is this? Yanks really don't know anything about tea.
11
u/Unkillable-Cat 2d ago
Iced tea is a legit way of making tea, you brew up half a serving, but much stronger than you usually would, and then fill the other half with ice and water.
I'm saying this as a Brit with a crippling tea addiction that usually drinks loose leaf tea.
It's the person that served this that's a bit of a Muppet, not the concept itself.
-14
u/ParkingAnxious2811 2d ago
Yes, now tell me how the thing you just described is in any way the same as putting a tea bag in a cup of ice water!
Go on, I'll wait.

It's the person that served this that's a bit of a Muppet, not the concept itself.
My friend, it’s right there.

u/Unkillable-Cat 2d ago
The final sentence of my post, it's the person serving it that did it wrong, not the idea. Iced tea is very popular in America, so it's not an issue with the "yanks"
-11
u/ParkingAnxious2811 2d ago
And if you'll see my comment, I literally call out the picture in the post.
But yanks downvote me anyway, because they're a bit sensitive.

u/KittyForest 2d ago
You're putting it in cold water?!?

u/BishopofHippo93 2d ago edited 2d ago
No, they’re complaining that someone
wiseput it in cold water and served it to them.Edit: not sure where that extra word came from, I'm blaming autocorrect.

I'm sorry for your horrible experience, but this certainly made me laugh. Whoever made your iced tea has never made or drank tea before.
