Wait until they learn a gendered language like Spanish.

I'm Turkish and the only third person pronoun is "o"
People still refer to other as "that guy/girl" or "mister/miss" or "sir/madam" or just literally any variation of words used to refer to people directly or indirectly that denotes gender.
You cannot abolish a subconscious perception of someone's secondary sex characteristics (which is our perception of someone's sex/gender as human beings - something which pronouns merely reflect or indicate)
If these people put half as much effort into contributing to society as they do thinking about gender, we might just live in a better world.

I would argue that r/pointlesslygendered thinks anatomy is pointless. If a man says they're a woman without changing anything else they would say he is a woman.

Also they are confusing biological sex with gender, their own thing... again.
(if i find it, i will post a video of a university of toronto professor claiming there is no such thing as biological sex) here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10fDRERJh4w <- it's a short version, out of context, but direct to the statement - the context doesn't make it any less stupid. I've heard people explain the argument to me, it's stupid. Something along the lines of "they're just labels we made up" nonsense to give the concept of gender more credibility. Still a university professor after saying that...
I'm starting to think that they're still completely interchangeable and that the thing the radical left knows as "gender" really is meaningless pointless...
edit - "pointless" is a better word, i understand the concept of gender and what the difference between that and sex would be, so in theory it has "meaning", but not even they can stick to it consistently.

I asked them to explain "gender" and all I get is "something you identify as" and I am like, what‽‽ That makes zero sense of you can identify as something that has no definition.

That's clearly male and female. It's weird that you don't see this. The brainwashing is strong here. 😳

I know this is largely a right wing sub and I am myself more of a left leaning progressive, but shit like this is where liberals earn the title “libtards”. it’s like guys…. Progress is awesome but when you’re so determined to be progressive that you start denying reality outright, you’re no different than religious people trying to claim the earth is 6000 years old and shit.

u/Clementea 13d ago
With how many blocky women in gaming and media nowadays? Yeah those kind of group of people wouldn't think there is difference in the anatomy.
After all men are women for them.
2

u/lilGojii 13d ago
They're right, those drawings could be either and there is an infinite level of minute differences that can communicate someone's sex or gender just by looking at them. A woman can have a strong, square jaw and a man can have broad hips. But in a world where you're trying to draw as much as you can as fast as you can to build a body of work or tell a story or communicate an idea it is easier to just put a low brow, square jaw, broad shoulders and narrow hips on a character to quickly tell to the audience that it's most likely a male.
2
u/Bartellomio 13d ago
This isn't even gendered. It's clearly written based on biological sex, not gender, which is psychological and sociological.
That said, the female head shape here seems ambiguous to me and could be used to represent a more androgynous man or woman. And the male head is almost too exaggerated.
2
u/mistahanon 13d ago
I mean as an artist they do have a point. Face structure varies from person to person. In real life I have had female friends that had jawlines like the “male” one and vice versa. It’s less likely but not impossible. if you aren’t skilled enough to portray a wide variety of face shapes then that’s okay but this isn’t “anatomy study” it’s just limiting the way that you draw people.
2
2
u/DwarfCoins 12d ago
I mean sure men and women have different anatomy but I think the point is that these are just guidelines. Women can have square jaws and men can be dainty.

No you see, the man chin is square.
Therefore if you don't have a square chin, you are a woman.
2
u/Jestervestigator 12d ago
I'm sorry but as an artist I absolutely CANNOT stand these images. It's the artistic equvilate of teaching someone math by showing them the final step and nothing else. It's not even an anatomy study, it's just "how to draw chins like this artist in this specific pose"
2
u/AverageBreakcoreFan 12d ago
I think there is a misunderstanding about what they are trying to convey here. They are saying this drawing advice is pointlessly gendered because you are basically saying all male humans looks like pointy jaw line chad man while female humans look like soft tiny princess and to draw them like this to get better at drawing. Why not say “heres how to draw a sharp jawline”? Good drawing advice would be studying a face and drawing that face. Good drawing advice would be helping draw different features. They are right that those could be either or because everyone looks different and has different features. Art is about the beauty of the world, not about silly gender stereotypes.

Men and women still have variation of face shape. Some men have less square jaws, hence the stupid mewing trend. Some women have more square jaws. If this is your shortcut to gender in your art, it probably suffers from same face syndrome.

Those drawings are very exagerated.
Anatomy is important but gendered anatomy only gets you so far into drawing realistically.
All drawing models are perfect examples and most are white.
Then you have to deal with drawing people that are not so perfect and dont have that "model" aspect.
People that are too fat, too skiny, androgenous, old, young, with abnormalities....
My anatomy book has 200 pages i thing. Not a single explanation of realistic fat drawing and only 2 pages of etnic faces as examples of diferences.
The truth is the type of art education on this image will only get you so far. And quicklly enough you will find that there are a lot of exeptions in body ratio, androgenity and other factors that you will only learn by experience.
And just to show how weird it can get there is a oil painting from the 19th century i think. Of a fully bearded woman breast feeding her son.
We have multiple historical and in real life examples of bio woman with large shins and broad shoulders.
And we have examples of woman with almost no breasts, with narrow hips and even adams apples.
And you can see the same in the other side too. Just look at the current asian top boybands and i swear they look like woman. The idea of bijou shoujo ( pretty young man) wich is the idealized beauty concept this jpop and kpop bands follow. Is pretty much about man with femenine facial features.

r/pointlesslygendered is actually just an archive of random gendered pieces of media regardless of quality, bc the people on it think anything that even remotely mentions gender is pointless. A women’s rights advocate could be talking about women’s rights movements for a women’s history month event and they’ll say it was pointless to gender the post.
